Before we begin I just want to say a few things. Whenever the werewolves in this world change they will be naked when they change back. Sometimes they'll be naked when they change so they don't ruin their clothes. Don't worry the nudity will be described non graphicly. Also this will be a Harem Deconstruction. What that means is Jaune isn't going to be in a polymerous relationship with team RWBY like in other fics.
In the beginning our world was silent. A void. There was nothing there to grow and live. The Sun changed that. It brought light to our world. It warmed our days and created the deer and sheep. Then The Ocean filled our planet with water. And with the Sun's help it was filled with fish. Then came The Rain. With The Sun, The Rain was able to create plants and trees and grass. Though our world had deer and sheep, something was missing. Someone needed to take care of the sheep and plants. Someone needed to take care of the world The Sun gave us. One by one they all looked at The Moon. The Moon had yet to create anything, for it did not know what to create. What could it create that the others hadn't? It pondered this for a while. Whatever it created needed to exceed the others. That's when it created us. The Children of The Moon. But The Moon was not foolish. It knew our world was harsh and very dangerous. So it gave us the ability to defend ourselves. When in danger we could turn into beasts with claws and sharp teeth. It is because of The Moon that we worship it above others. For as long as it gives us light at night we too give it praise at night.
Moon Above Us All
He heard that his whole life. Moon Above Us All. As if he didn't already know that. But Jaune was confident today was the day. Today The Moon would be with him and he would finally reach his beast form. All the other kids his age had reached it. They would always be in the forest running and play fighting. His mother of course said he couldn't join them so he wouldn't get hurt. But Jaune was 12 now. He was a man according to their laws. Of course if the Moon Priests heard him say that they'd remind him he wasn't a man until he reached his beast form. But he knew it had to happen any second now. The alternative was something he didn't want to think about.
Sitting outside of his house on a beautiful Fall morning he drew in his notebook what his beast form would look like. It looked so badass. He would be like his father and be seven feet tall. He didn't want his fur to be blonde though. He already had blonde hair like everyone else in his family. He couldn't wait to see Cardin's reaction to it. Cardin was two years older and then though they didn't talk much anymore that would change when he got his beast form too. He smiled thinking of what his father would say when he saw him. Jaune's father was a Beta as were all the other men in his had served the Alpha for many years and were all great warriors and soon Jaune would be too.
His drawing was interrupted when his neighbor came out of her house with her dog. Though her dog was nice Ms Elana was not. Jaune was quiet, not stupid. He heard the things she and the other members of the pack had said about him over the years.
"That boy ain't right!"
"Why is he so weird?"
"I don't want you playing with him. Everyone knows he's Howlless."
Howlless. That's something no one wants to be called. When you're Howlless that means you can't hear the moon like everyone else. Those who can't hear the moon are considered not a true member of the pack and must be exiled. Jaune couldn't help the fact that he couldn't hear it. To him the moon was just the moon. He never heard it say anything.
"I hear Jospheine had an affair. There's no way he's Henri's kid"
"He's not contagious is he?"
"I actually feel sorry for him. What kinda life is he gonna have?"
Jaune wiped away the tears he could feel in his eyes. The day wasn't over yet. When the moon came out he would hear it and be considered a member of the pack. He would be a man
But it didn't happen
It was midnight and he still hadn't turned. His notebook had been thrown across the lawn and his face was buried in his knees. If a child hadn't heard the moon a week after their twelve birthday then they never would. It was official. Jaune was Howlless. He heard the front door open and one of his younger sisters Jade had told him he had to come inside.
"Go away" he said, his voice muffled in his knees.
Jade was only seven and just thought her brother was being dramatic.
"Mère!" she shouted as she went inside, "he told me to go away!"
It wasn't long before his mother Jospheine had come out and sat with him on the porch. She didn't need to be told why he was upset. The whole town knew this would happen even before he did. Though children could never reach their beast form before age twelve they could still hear the moon. It became clear to her and her husband that their son never would. Everytime he would get excited about it they would derail the conversation onto something else. How could they tell their child the one dream he had would never come he finally looked at her it was clear from his red eyes and cheeks he had been crying.
"Mère what's wrong with me?"
Josephine had given birth to eight children. She knew how to feed an army with almost nothing and could get her daughters to act right with just the sound of her voice. But this was different. This was something she didn't know how to fix. She too heard what people said about her son. The only person who said it openly was Gabriel Colbert and Henri made sure no one else did it that day or any day after. Her and Henri talked about what they would say when this day came and what they would do to prevent their son from being exiled.
"Do not worry mon petit garçon. Your father will handle it."
His father was in a town meeting with the Alpha and other elder members of the pack. The rules for dealing with someone who was Howlless was perfectly clear according to the Laws of The Moon which was written by the first Sigma's of the Children of The Moon. Even an Alpha couldn't overrule a law made by it. Unless the child could prove useful to the pack despite being Howless they would be exiled. But none of that mattered to Jaune. In the eyes of the pack he wasn't anything useful. He couldn't be a tough Beta like his father or even a Omega like his mother whose job was to provide for the pack. He would never be seen as an equal. He would never be seen as a man.
The mood inside the town meeting hall was intense. For the last few hours the elder members of the pack were having an intense discussion on what to do with Jaune.
"Send him away!"
"He's just a boy!"
"What if he infects someone?!"
The Alpha had a rule that no blood is to be spilled in the town hall during meetings. But Bernard Dupont wasn't stupid. If he didn't make a decision soon tables would be flipped and he'd have a fight on his hands. Without saying a word he signaled the crowd to be quiet. Obeying their Alpha the crowd waited for him to speak while he laid his chin against his fists.
"Thank you all for your thoughts. I will take it into consideration. Everyone but the heads of the pack may now leave. Moon Above Us All"
The crowd repeated the saying before leaving. The town hall that was able to fit hundreds of people now only had five. It's a good thing Bernard no longer had hair or we would've pulled it all out by now. Though his black beard would sometimes do. Though she was the smallest in the room, the Gamma of the pack, his wife Sophia had no problem making herself heard.
"Bernard, we've been in here for hours." she told him. "I understand you feel for the boy. I helped deliver all these children and see them as my own. But we both know if he stays here it will do more harm than good."
As the Gamma it was Sophia who approved and disapproved if a couple could mate. She had to make sure they would have strong children for the pack. As much as it broke her heart she knew she couldn't approve of Jaune mating with anyone since there was a chance his children would be Howless as well.
"My family has never harmed anyone." Henri reminded them. "My son is a good boy Bernard. We're all sorry this happened, but there must be an exception."
"An exception?" The Head Sigma Phillip nearly choked on his spit, at least the spit that didn't come flying out his mouth upon hearing something so blasphemous.
"The Laws of the Moon are absolute Henri. No one is above them. Not even your family."
With him being a Sigma Phillip spent decades reading The Laws of the Moon and its laws. Hearing someone say they're above them was atrocious.
The Alpha turned to the Head Delta Nikos. Hailing from Romurem her accent was very distantly southern Sanus. She had recently joined the pack after she heard of the demise of their former Delta. Arriving with her young daughter she fit in quite well with their pack.
"I'm afraid I do not have an opinion on this," she told them. "I do not know the boy well enough to make a decision."
Phillip glared at her from across the table they sat at. Their laws were absolute. Why was he the only one who remembered that?
Bernard didn't like the idea of exiling the boy. Henri and his ancestors had served the pack loyalty for generations. His father Jesper had saved his life when another pack tried to infringe on their territory. He didn't understand how they could've had a child who was Howlless.
Feeling a hand rest on his he looked to see his wife gave him a look that said whatever he decided she was with him. Though neither of them were as young as they once were he still thought she was beautiful with her gray hair in a long braid.
"Usually at times like this I would have no choice but to follow the law." Automatically he knew to raise a hand to silence Phillip who was about to speak. "But Henri is right. His family has been nothing but good to us for generations. For that I must look beyond the laws and follow my heart. The boy stays."
Those in the town hall could swear they could hear Phllip's teeth grinding. Though he was too old to go into his beast form that didn't stop his eyes from turning yellow.
"Thank you Al-" Henri was silenced by Bernard as began to speak.
"With that being said, what are we to do with him?" Because Jaune was Howlless there were limited options for him on where to place him in the pack. He wouldn't survive being a Beta like his father. Phillip would die before he approved of him being a Sigma. And though he didn't know the boy personally he doubted he could be a Delta. Which only left one choice.
"I'm afraid he'll have to be an Omega Henri."
Omega's were at the bottom of the pack. Their job was to simply provide for the pack. Whether it be raising children or catching food. Male Omega's didn't have the best reputation. They weren't dominant nor were they very special. While there were plenty of female Omega's including Jospheine, male's weren't exactly sought after since they were considered undesirable.
Henri knew there was nothing else he could say or do once the Alpha had made up his mind.
"I understand. Thank you Alpha."
It had been a long night. Once the Alpha excused them with Moon Above Us the meeting was adjourned.
Walking back to his house he saw his son still on the porch. He wasn't doing anything except staring blankly at his dream that had only been that. A dream. Henri wanted nothing more than to hug his son and almost reached out to him. But stopped himself before he could. He knew how to defend his village from invaders but didn't know how to comfort his only son in his time of need. Instead all he said was he was to be an Omega now then went inside.
As he sat on the porch alone Jaune could hear the other members of the pack talking to the moon in the forest. But he never would. He would never be like his father and those who came before him. He would have a mate and children. He would never be able to call himself a man since men who were Omega's weren't considered men.
He spent the last few hours silently crying to himself making sure no one saw him. He was already humiliated enough and didn't need anyone to see him like this. This was his life now. A life he didn't want but he would have to accept. The dreams of him being a Beta were replaced by dreams where he wasn't who he was. Because who he was wasn't right. All he could do now was accept that his former dream was just that. A dream.
