Ten years later, after long and careful consideration, all monsters were allowed to walk freely.
That didn't mean all humans were for the freedom of monsterkind. Discrimination was still rampant.
And Sans was having major trouble adjusting after he saw how bad many humans were, while he was in prison. Sure, exceptions exist, but he was still suspicious of humans.
He was holding Papyrus' and at the supermarket. "Come on, brother, I know you want to pick something." Sans shook his head, "It's fine, ahh!" Sans felt a sharp kick to his knee. "Well, fancy seeing you here." Dillard's voice was recognizable, and he was still the last person Sans wanted to see.
Sans turned around, "Heya." Papyrus' grip was tightened on Sans' hand. "Don't heya me, as far as I'm concerned, you and your-" "Sans!"
Dillard didn't bother to say anything else as his nibbling came up to them. "Papyrus! I'm glad to see you." Sans got the feeling that was mostly directed at Papyrus. "I'm glad it worked out." Sans gulped, "Hey, kid. I truly am sorry for everything."
"I know you are, Sans." Frisk wasn't upset at Sans, but did wonder if Sans would be sorry, if he never experienced the consequences, so they decided to never tell Sans that his forgiveness was given long ago. "Goodbye, Sans. Good luck, Papyrus." Frisk beelined out of sight.
"I don't believe any of you are sorry. Sorry you got caught, maybe. Go to hell, the lot of ya. At least some of you ain't all bad." Dillard stated, remembering Grillby. "Skeleton, if you're looking for bad people, start with your kind. Asshole!" Dillard left and Sans was relieved, as he expected a lot more pain from that interaction.
"Come on Sans, we can go grab some nicecream!" Papyrus tried to keep Sans somewhat happy after that interaction. Sans grew to like Frisk, but Frisk had an opposite reaction now. "We're bad people, aren't we?" Sans' sockets were black. "No, we're not. We're people who did wrong things. Now we have to strive to do better."
"Bro, I just want to go home." "Okay, Sans." Papyrus wondered if he could convince Frisk to try again, before realizing that trying that probably wouldn't go well, and is what caused some of the tension between humans and monsters in the first place.
Now the only goal was to prevent a war, humans get antsy when children are hurt, it seems.
