He let a suspect get away… and she knew that the DPD would be pissed off at them.
Well, most of the DPD would be pissed off.
Leah tried not to yell as Connor carefully placed his hands on her right ankle which was bent awkwardly… the last thing she needed after beating an awful cold she had was getting injured on the job.
Focusing carefully, Connor scanned Leah's head as she was disoriented.
Nature Of Injury: Bruise On Forehead, No Concussion
"No concussion, thankfully. Scared me when you hit your head." Connor explained before they kissed.
Focusing on her right ankle afterwards, Connor scanned it.
Nature Of Injury: Broken Tibia & Fibula, Clean Break
Objective: Find Something To Immobilize Ankle, Reset Ankle, Remove Leah's Shoe, Call For Medical Assistance
Connor found two discarded boards and used his blazer to tie them together after placing them on either side of Leah's ankle after resetting the broken bones and Connor messaging "Officer down, broken right ankle and bruised forehead. Location is the train station in the Ravendale district." after carefully taking Leah's black ballet flat off of her right foot.
"Ambulance is on its way." One of the android officers responded telepathically.
Leah gritted her teeth and felt foolish for letting tears fall as Connor picked her up into his arms and Hank had caught up to them… but the scolding he had intended to give them died on his tongue the second he saw the miserable looks on their faces.
"Don't worry, kids. We know what he looks like… we'll find him." Hank responded, Leah brushing her tears away as they heard the sirens.
Footsteps were easily heard as everyone looked up from either their desks or the break room as Fowler left his office and stood at the bottom of the steps.
"Suspect was spotted in the Ravendale district. Hank, Leah, Connor, go apprehend him." Fowler explained before Hank, Leah and Connor grabbed what they needed and stood up.
"Break a leg, Red." Gavin responded in a snarky tone as the three were leaving and Leah turned to him.
"If I break someone's bones, they're gonna be yours, asswipe!" Leah replied with the same amount of snark before she caught up to Hank and Connor… and Gavin sat down, throwing a half empty coffee cup in the nearby trash can.
"Fucking bitch!" Gavin hissed.
"You're just upset because Fowler didn't let you go after the person who's been trying to kill androids. And you still see androids as machines, even after the revolution." Tina responded.
Gavin turned to her, knowing she was one of the few people bold enough to call him out on his behavior.
"Yeah…" Gavin admitted.
"You're not gonna fix your broken friendships with Leah and Hank if you keep acting like this, Gavin." Tina responded before she left the break room.
Gavin knew she was right…
Gavin was snapped out of his thoughts after hearing the scanner and grabbing it.
"Repeat that?" Gavin asked.
"Medics are en route to the train station in Ravendale. Officer down."
Gavin dropped the scanner and grabbed his patrol car keys and gun before he stood up and ran outside to his patrol car, getting into it and buckling up.
He slammed the driver's side door before he turned the engine, lights and siren on and sped towards Ravendale.
"Please be alive, please be alive, please be alive!" Gavin responded as he saw the ambulance and slammed on the brakes, unbuckling and running out of the car and to the ambulance.
He went wide eyed when he saw Leah in the back of the ambulance and his heart stopped… before he saw that she lacked bullet wounds and he heard his heart beating again.
Leah blinked as the morphine started to kick in, Connor's right hand resting on the top of her head and lightly rubbing it.
The next thing Leah remembered clearly was waking up and seeing that her right ankle was in a cast that was almost finished as she was wearing a hospital gown and that her linen shorts, tank top, shoes and blazer were next to her gun and badge… and a nurse that was in her early 20s with blonde hair, pale skin and blue eyes looked at her with a kind smile.
"You're okay, Officer Anderson. The morphine did make you sleep for a while though, your ankle should be fully healed in about 6 weeks. Your boyfriend's quick thinking in resetting the bone and immobilizing your leg helped." The nurse explained, Leah nodding before the nurse noticed the teal nail polish on Leah's fingernails. "I like that shade of teal, it compliments your red hair. Do you want the color of the cast bandage to match?" She asked.
Leah nodded before she saw Hank walk into the room and the two hugged.
"You scared the hell outta me. I'm glad you're okay but don't chase a suspect into traffic, Babydoll. Especially when the city workers haven't filled in that goddamn pothole." Hank responded.
"That's what I tripped over?" Leah asked as the teal bandage covered the white cast and Connor walked in, Leah and Connor kissing. "Hey, Babe. I'm sorry." She responded.
"Don't apologize, your health and safety matters more." Connor replied.
"I can't believe I tripped over a pothole. Of all the ways to break a limb." Leah responded before Hank saw Gavin and walked to him.
Gavin was biting on his lower lip to keep from crying until Hank got him to stop and sit down.
"I fucking jinxed her…" Gavin responded, Hank sitting down next to him.
"Gavin, you didn't jinx her. Sometimes bad falls are unavoidable." Hank replied, Gavin looking at him. "Remember that time you broke your right arm?" He asked.
"Fresh out of the academy and ended up tripping over a pothole when we were trying to apprehend a dealer… you let him run and stayed by my side even after the ambulance showed up." Gavin explained after glancing at the scars on his right arm… and he grabbed a sharpie after standing up, remembering what Leah had signed on his cast 15 years ago.
When Leah had woken up again, she blinked to clear her vision and saw what was written on her cast.
'Don't take everything I say literally. Heal up soon.'
Leah smiled slightly as the fuzzy memory of Gavin with a broken arm became clear again.
