Scott wasn't sure what he should do. On the one hand, Ricky had never hurt or even threatened to hurt him or Marisa. It seemed wrong to just throw her out, before her leg even had a chance to heal. On the other hand, maybe Marisa was right. He couldn't pretend to understand this place, but in many ways it seemed to be a garden of Eden. A place to relax, find peace, take a break from all the chaos and hectic lives they'd had to lead. And in some ways, Ricky seemed like the metaphorical serpent. The tattoos, the fact that her cellphone seemed to work, the fact that she seemed to like actual snakes. Maybe her function was to tempt them out of the garden. Marisa was determined to never leave their little slice of paradise. They had to just say "No" to the serpent. Scott reluctantly agreed, and they went to confront Ricki. They found her listening to a baseball game on her cellphone.

.

Scott: We need to talk.

Ricki: Can it wait, the Phillies are making a comeback against the Yankees.

Scott: Really, what's the score?

Marisa: Scott, that's not the point.

Scott: Right, sorry.

Ricki: Okay, what's this about?

Marisa: We want you to leave.

Ricki: I will. I just need another day or two for my leg to heal.

Marisa: No, you will leave right now.

Ricki: How? My bike needs repair, and my leg still needs to heal.

Marisa: That's your problem. Get out now!

Ricki: You feel this way too Scott?

Scott: Yes, leave now. We reject you.

Ricki: Reject what exactly? You have your own little slice of Heaven and apparently don't care about the rest of the world. It might be beyond your power to save the world, but you could help one person who comes to you in need. Instead you cast about an injured girl. Why exactly? Because I look a little different from you? Because my phone works when yours doesn't? Because I show kindness to an animal that you reject? "Whatever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me."

.

When Scott and Marisa heard Ricky phrase the situation in those terms, they were suddenly ashamed of themselves.

.

Ricky: I'm going to let you in on a little secret, this is my place. I gave you both the chance to escape from all the greed and paranoia of civilization, but it seemed you couldn't let go of those negative attributes. I still hope to find people who can share my garden and live in peace. But as for you two, I cast you out.

.

Before they could even beg for forgiveness, Scott and Marissa were sent back. Back to where they started, before they ever got lost and found their own garden of Eden. Neither remembered any of it, to them it was as if no time had passed at all. They saw each other, briefly. But neither had the time to really see the other, they were each too busy to appreciate beauty. And they would never again remember what they had forfeited because of their greed and suspicion. Paradise it seemed, was off limits to them.
