Karr monitored Melissa's condition, as he had stated he would. She had an old injury to her hip, which had recently been repaired. There was no sign of infection, indicating her fever and collapse were both likely due to overexertion. Therefore, rest was the recommended treatment. Based on her improvement since falling asleep, Karr anticipated a full recovery by morning. His diagnosis and prognosis were both confirmed when Michael returned from talking with the doctor. Not that Karr needed – or even wanted – the confirmation.
Karr was surprised that neither Bonnie nor Michael had removed him from Melissa's room. He had assumed they would deem him too dangerous to be left in close proximity to her. However, it allowed to monitor her condition and also to observe Devon. He was intrigued by the man's tender care and affection for Melissa. Karr had never before been privy to this aspect of human behavior. Certainly no one had ever treated him that way.
Karr wondered if any of the humans treated KITT that way. It would explain his preference for their company. Karr also wondered if any of the humans would treat him that way. Other than Melissa.
