Kitt had been amused Karr's monitoring of Melissa's status. Karr had shared his sensor readings with Kitt . . . in real-time. Kitt had gently suggested that perhaps half-hour or even hourly check-ins would be sufficient.

Karr may have been activated first, but Kitt had more real-world experience. And so he reassured Karr that, while humans could be injured or become ill, they did not appreciate constant monitoring of their condition most of the time.

Kitt was also intrigued by the strength of Karr's affection for Melissa in such a short time. He wondered if Wilton Knight had intentionally built the capacity for bonding into both AIs. After all, they had different core directives but had developed the same deep connection with a human. Perhaps they had more in common than either of them had ever realized.
