Oh hey, folks! Guess what today is! It's the 27th anniversary of Dexter's Laboratory! And to commemorate the celebration, I'm going to write a Dexter's Laboratory one-shot, featuring my favorite fanon pairing and probably yours, Dexter x Lee Lee! It's been a while since I wrote for this pairing, so why not? Does this mean a gateway to a third chance at a multi-chaptered Dexter x Lee Lee fanfiction? Only time will tell! Anyway, enjoy!

Today was another big day in the life of Dexter, boy genius. Then again, as always, his birthday WAS a good reason to celebrate. However, much to the disappointment of the boy, his parents still treated him like a little kid. Well, he was a little kid, but regardless of that, he still wanted to be treated like an equal in the house.

Of course, not helping was the fact that his sister kept annoying him every step of the way, and any and all birthday presents that his parents would give him, weren't exactly the things he wanted. Of course, it wasn't that surprising, seeing as how one year, his parents gave him socks, and another year, the gift he did want, a Major Glory action figure, even if one of the kids that was invited to a surprise birthday party that his parents had thrown together, it just didn't seem to be what his parents viewed as a good gift. Not helping was that he was invisible at the time, and that the real Major Glory was actually there...

Still, maybe it was a good thing that he wasn't going to bother celebrating his birthday this year. Because, to Dexter, all it brought was disappointment. Sure, he did attend the small get-together and have a small slice of cake with his parents and sister (and even pretended to "like" the gifts they gave him, like new baseballs and footballs, and Dee Dee herself giving him a book (one he already had, but knew better than to berate her in front of their parents)), he retreated back to his laboratory and proceeded to do a little more work in his lab, mostly using his wrench to tighten a bolt on a control panel. As far as he was concerned, this was his way of relaxing...

Of course, that was when he heard the shuffling of feet walking into the lab. Dexter opened his eyes, then lowered them as he shook his head. By now, he wasn't too surprised at this point to hear the sounds of Dee Dee coming into the lab behind the bookcase, it was almost custom at this point. What he was surprised to hear, however, was the feminine yelp as the sound of a rope was heard tightening around the foot and yanking something in the air, with a "SPROING" sound effect accompanying it.

The orange haired boy genius put the wrench aside as he crawled out of the space and ran over, but casually walked slower the closer he got. Of course, it did feel satisfying to hear his sister finally getting herself trapped in one of the various traps he laid out should she have ever came back into the lab. "Well, well, well, looks like I finally caught you red-handed, Dee-"

However, the minute Dexter turned the corner to find his trap, he found himself surprised as he found not his sister, Dee Dee, getting caught upside down by a rope holding both feet in one of her traps, but someone else entirely. A girl who LOOKED almost similar to Dee Dee, but different. She was a Chinese girl who wore a green ballerina leotard, white ballet tights and green ballet shoes. She was also holding what seemed to be a white box tied up in red ribbon. The girl looked over and gave a wave.

Dexter blinked twice, before lowering his eyelids. "Lee Lee, of course. Where's my dumb sister and your other friend, Mee Mee."

"They're in their room, playing dollies." Lee Lee simply said. "Don't worry, they know I'm here, and I'll be joining them soon."

"Uh huh." Dexter frowned as he crossed his arms. "And is there ANY particular reason WHY you decided to come into my laboratory, when the rules clearly say that my dumb sister and her best friends are not allowed within the vicinity of the lab?"

"Oh, don't be like that, Dexter." Lee Lee said as she tried to swing her way out of her predicament, but somehow, had no luck. "I heard it was your birthday today, and I wanted to come over and wish you a happy birthday."

Dexter blinked twice in surprise, before lowering his eyelids. "Thank you for the wishes, but as far as I'm concerned, the birthday is over and I'd like to get back to my life until next year..."

Lee Lee looked surprised at Dexter's rather off-putting attitude. "Do you... not like your birthday?"

"After the couple of birthdays for the last couple of years, where I got some lame gifts, keep getting beat up AND having parents and a sister that treat you differently like they don't know you at all?" Dexter frowned. "Let's just say, I've become a little disillusioned at the idea of a birthday party."

"Oh..." Lee Lee paused as she looked over at the angry boy. "Well, that's kind of a shame. I always figured that everybody loved the idea of celebrating their birthday, especially when it's another year to look forward to..."

"Yeah, a year of life putting you down, over and over again until you're old enough to go to college, then bye bye old life." Dexter narrowed his eyes before pushing a button on the side as the ropes loosened up, releasing the Chinese girl as she fell down to the floor (thankfully not dropping the box). As Lee Lee got up and dusted herself, Dexter continued his rant. "Life constantly puts you down and the only reprieve you have, can push you down a lot more. What's the point of celebrating a birthday when you know life doesn't go your way?"

"Oh come on, Dexter, you're a genius!" Lee Lee complimented as she shook her head to get the dizziness out of the way. "I mean, from what Dee Dee says, you're the only boy who's become dedicated to his craft, and your inventions are overall pretty cool."

The young boy smirked as he closed his eyes as he said in a rather cocky manner. "Yes, they are pretty cool, aren't they?"

But just as quick as his cockiness came, it immediately deflated as Dexter crossed his arms. "But regardless of that, things just aren't going my way, and people just don't seem to care about my birthday. They think they do, but in all honesty, they don't. I mean, do my parents or my sister even realize that I don't want these toys or these repeat gifts? Do they even know me at all? They say they do, but..."

Lee Lee noted Dexter's sad face as he was looking down, all mopey. Lee Lee paused briefly as she looked at the boy she lov- LIKED, in sympathy. "Oh, Dexter, you're beating yourself up for nothing. Maybe if you actually tried to show them your interests, maybe they'll ease up on the whole birthday thing."

"You don't think I've tried that? They know about my good grades, they know I excel in science, but even then, my mom and dad want me to be something I'm not." Dexter held his head in frustration. "And that's just the trouble of it!"

The Chinese girl looked over to Dexter as she walked over and leaned down, putting the gift aside and gave the boy genius a large hug, causing the boy to blush furiously. Being the boy he is, Dexter squirmed a bit as he looked over at her with an uncomfortable look on his face, only to calm down as he began to note the cute, sympathetic look in her eyes. Maybe it was an illusion of the light, but he had never seen pretty eyes like those before.

Dexter blushed a bit, before frowning, "Anyway, whatever you're here for, just do it and leave."

"Well, actually, I just wanted to give you this." Lee Lee said as she picked up the box and handed it over to Dexter.

The boy genius blinked twice before looking over at the Japanese girl in curiosity. "Why give me a gift?"

"It is your birthday, isn't it? The birthday boy HAS to have a gift." Lee Lee said as she closed her eyes and gave a small smile towards the small boy.

Dexter rolled his eyes, but regardless, looked over at the gift. Figuring that she probably gave him one of those paddleballs or whatever girly thing she thought HE'D be interested in, he decided to open the gift and pretend to be enthused, knowing he'd burn it later...

However, upon opening it, the boy's eyes widened as he looked at the inside of the gift box in awe. He quickly pulled the gift out, revealing a large box that read out 'Telescope Kit 7.4: Will let you see through another galaxy'. Dexter's mouth dropped in awe as he couldn't believe it.

"This is the rarest telescope kit in the world! And it's really expensive! How did you manage to afford this?" Dexter gasped as he turned towards the beautiful black-haired Chinese girl.

Lee Lee giggled. "My parents and I have been saving up a lot of money, and they decided to help me buy this. I saw this telescope on display, and figured 'Maybe Dexter would like one of these'?"

"Well..." Dexter chuckled a bit. "I actually did. The old telescopes are good, but this one? It's very special! If I can see through galaxies, then it'll be more places to explore beyond the planet!"

Lee Lee laughed as she saw the joy on Dexter's face. "I'm glad you like it, Dexter."

Dexter paused slightly before turning towards the tall Chinese girl in curiosity. "You know, Lee Lee, you may be one of my sister's friends, but... you're a good person."

Lee Lee blushed a bit as Dexter walked closer. The boy found himself looking rather nervous about what he was going to do. Somehow, he wanted to thank Lee Lee for this amazing gift... he didn't know what went through his mind when he thought about this idea, and he would probably come to regret it in maybe an hour from now, but it just felt right to do.

"Uh... Dexter?" Lee Lee asked, looking curious as the boy leaned close, his lips close to hers...

The next thing she knew, Dexter's lips caught hers in a kiss, surprising the Chinese girl. Lee Lee's eyes widened at first, before closing happily as she felt the lingering presence of the boy's kiss. After parting their lips, Dexter smiled as he felt satisfied, with Lee Lee covering her lips, looking rather surprised at what happened.

"Consider this a thank you for this wonderful gift. You know, maybe not all birthdays are bad after all." Dexter smiled.

Lee Lee just stood there in shock, still feeling her lips... before giving a small smile. "It's quite amazing. Well, I hope you have fun with your new telescope. I'll be with Dee Dee and Mee Mee... if you need me."

"Yeah, yeah, sure..." Dexter said as Lee Lee walked off, feeling her lips one more time, before exiting.

As for Dexter himself, he was more than eager to get started on building the kit. Sure, this small act from Lee Lee may have seemed like a good start to a relationship, but as time goes on, that small act would eventually turn itself into the catalyst of a brand new chapter in Dexter's life, as he and Lee Lee would fall for each other...

But that was another story.
