Ha, the title is a pun!
I don't remember where I had gotten the idea, but I just thought that if Danny were to get his own version of Catwoman, Paulina would fit purrfectly. Here were some of the points that helped with that comparison:
-In the show, she did show an interest in cats (favorite show being the in-verse version of Hello Kitty).
-Her threats to "scratch people's eyes out with her perfectly manicured nails".
-Her overall flirty nature
-She was shown to be sneaky and clever. She had managed to link Danny's disappearances with Phantom's appearances when nobody else really did.
I had fun coming up with her costume and weapons for her alter-ego. Her costume is mostly based off of Catwoman, though a had added touches of Cat Noir/Lady Noire from the Miraculous show. Her gear also reflects that, with my own touches:
-the Jack-o-nine tails. This was as close I could get to Catwoman's whip, that and the weapon's original name is Cat-o-nine tails. It fits!
-The Fenton Rod. This was that staff that was used in the episode "Pirate Radio". It's like Cat Noir's staff.
-the laser lipstick. It was shown in "Doctor's Disorders" and, besides giving Paulina a ranged weapon, it would suit her specifically.
-the Fenton Fishing Rod. Just something to use as rope, and I have a joke planned for this item.
Well, enough about that, here's the chapter.
'Hormones suck,' Danny thought, dragging both hands over his face in frustration. It had been a week since Paulina's debut as a cat themed vigilante, and Danny wasn't sure how to feel about it. The two sides of his conscience pestered him like desperate, used-cars salesmen trying to convince the naive college student why they should buy from them.
Fortunately, Sam's away on a family trip to the Holy Lands and Tuck's been distracted with a new release of a device update, so he didn't need to tell them just yet. Jazz on the other hand, he wanted to sift through his conflicted feelings before bringing it up.
'Tonight,' he thought resolutely, flying over the rooftops, 'I'll go to Jazz and see what she thinks of this, after I go retrieve something.'
A flash of light caught his attention, followed by the chill of his ghost sense. The ghost boy corrected his flight trajectory, arching over a building. The first thing he noticed was the glare of a motorcycle's light, and the particular ghost that owned said motorcycle.
The second thing he noticed was the familiar form of Paulina, the girl in a stare off with Johnny 13.
"Aw c'mon girly, I mean no harm."
"And I'm telling you to scram Chusma," Paulina hissed, "go back to whatever hole you crawled out of."
"I'd listen if I were you," Danny piped up, landing in between the biker ghost and the cat girl, "corner a cat, get scratched. Trust me: she can, and will, do a lot of damage with her manicure."
"Good looking and good timing," Paulina complimented, much happier and pleased that Danny was there. "How've you've been Ghost Boy~?"
"Never a quiet night with you?" Danny snarked, arching an eyebrow at the girl before turning to his… well, at this point, he wasn't an enemy, but they weren't friends either.
"It wouldn't be fun otherwise."
Johnny let out a long whistle as he regarded the duo, "Got a new partner that you're sweet on?"
"We're just friends." The statement lost its validity when Paulina slung her arms over his shoulders from behind, sending the ghost boy flirty eyes. To Danny's credit, he did a decent job keeping the blush at bay.
Johnny scoffed. "Yeah, sure. Friends, though I should say that there's a difference between friend and… friendlier."
"Enough of this," Danny huffed, "Can you please tell me what you're doing exactly? And where's Kitty?"
"She's right here," Paulina murmured in Danny's ear, her warm breath sending tingles down his spine, "and she's wanting a bit of first base."
"Not you!"
"Kit's having a girl's night with Em," Johnny said, looking amused. "I was just taking a ride through town. Is that so bad?"
"I highly doubt robbing that jewelry store of this counts as 'taking a ride through town'," Paulina said, dangling a delicate, yet expensive necklace from her fingers.
Johnny's eyes flew open, hands flailing to his various pockets, "How did-"
"You're reeaaally going for the Catwoman-vibe, are you?" Dannny asked rhetorically, regarding the smug Latina.
"You could say that~."
Danny huffed in amusement, then gave a stern glare at the biker ghost.
"Ah c'mon squirt, I just wanted to get something for my girl, is that wrong?"
"How you're going about it is," Danny's eyes narrowed.
"Whatever! Shadow, attack!"
From the inky puddle that lay by Johnny's feet rose the formidable shadow ghost, it snarling in ferocity before lunging at the ghost boy.
Both Danny and Paulina leapt out of the way, Danny taking to the skies with Shadow in pursuit.
"Well now babe," Johnny smirked at the cat girl, looking very much at ease, "it looks like it's just you an-" A kick to the face sent him tumbling to the ground. "Hey!"
Paulina lowered her leg, whipping out the Jack-o-nine tailsᵗᵐ with a crack. "Did you think I'd go easy on you?"
Johnny glowered, "okay pussycat, ya wanna dance? Let's dance."
"Okay Fenton, let's look at this logically," Danny said to himself, setting the Fenton Thermosᵗᵐ on the nightstand before pacing around in his room. "Compile a list of pros and cons as to why Paulina should or should not continue moonlighting as a Cat vigilante."
"Pros, pros… Pro: I could always use the extra help. That and she's pretty fun to talk to, when she isn't flirting with me…" Danny trailed off, cheeks getting a light dusting of pink thinking of the Hispanic girl's words and actions before shaking his head.
"Con, She could get badly hurt," Danny hunched his shoulders of the thought of Paulina getting injured. "Yeah, some of the regulars that came around are okay, but there's still ghosts that don't really care about if humans got hurt, like Spectra or Skulker." His shoulders lost their tension. "Then again, she's shown that she could handle herself pretty well and seemed eager to learn."
"Con: she could find out my identity, becoming some sort of security risk or something, end up spilling the beans and blah blah blah. Okay, I doubt that would be too much an issue. Even if, on the off chance that she found out my identity, I think she'll keep it a secret." He thought back to the incident with the Reality Gauntlet and how she and the other A-Listers jumped to helping him. That and, by what he could tell, Paulina hasn't breathed a word of her new activity to anyone, which is surprising since she's one to gossip.
"Okay Fenton, list another pro as to why she should be running around in that flattering catsuit, which is technically a Fenton Jumpsuit and that's kinda one step closer to get her to wrap her mind around the idea of 'Paulina Fenton'-" Danny's hand bopped his forehead. "I shouldn't be thinking about that! I'm supposed to be over her by now! She's been mean to me and my friends… though she has been treating people nicer lately. Maybe being a hero is good for her."
Danny, having came to a stop by his bed, flopped backwards onto the mattress, the springs giving soft creaks from the weight. There was still that part of his brain that's saying that this is a bad idea. There's also the fact that, while he was going to talk to Jazz, he still needed to tell Tucker and Sam, the one who "loathed" the pink-wearing popular girl.
"That's not going to be fun, is it?" Danny said to himself before going back to his pro/con list. "Pros… did I mention that catsuit?" A knock on the door drew the teen from his musings. "It's open."
"Hey Danny," Jazz entered the room, shutting the door behind her, "did you take care of what you needed to do?"
"Yeah, I did."
"Nooooooo!" Johnny wailed as he was sucked into the thermos, the ghost not expecting the Latina to have put up a good fight… or for her to be armed and in possession of the thermos.
"Served him right," Paulina said, slapping the cap back on with a satisfying click.
"So that's where that thermos went," Danny remarked, floating back down to the ground.
"Well, I needed something to hold the ghosts," Paulina stated innocently, as if she didn't swipe the thermos off of him the last encounter. She then handed the device to Danny. "While it's useful, it clashes with my boots. I'm guessing that you have somewhere to send them off to."
"Thank you," Danny clipped the thermos to his belt.
"Soooo, have you considered my offer?" The girl asked, batting her lashes. "We'd make purrfect partners."
"I have…" Danny trailed off, musing over what to say, "There's something I need to check on first. I'll have an answer the next time we meet up."
"Fair enough," the girl conceded, "until next time, Phantom~" she bid, blowing a kiss before leaving.
Danny shook the memory away, refocusing on his sister, "there's something I need a second opinion on."
"Oh, what is it?" Jazz sat on the bed next to her brother.
Danny then proceeded to explain the night that Paulina had first shown up in her catsuit and the last few nights of her prowling around, helping out with some of the ghosts and his conflicted feelings on her being a vigilante- though he left out some bits, for reasons.
"I see," Jazz said after the explanation, "have you asked Tucker or Sam what they think about this?"
"No, I haven't. Tucker may be fine with it, but Sam's the one I'm really worried about." Danny rubbed his face with his face. "You know how she feels about Paulina."
"Yeah, that's valid," Jazz conceded.
"So, what do you think?" Danny turned his head to look at his sister.
"You've actually addressed a couple of the major concerns and benefits as to Paulina continuing being… what is she calling herself?"
"She hasn't come up with a name yet."
"Well she better soon. I think you know what happens when someone decides a name for you, Inviso-Bill."
Danny let out a groan of annoyance, turning away from his smirking sister.
"I just have two questions: first, is she really going through with this? Being a hero is a serious commitment."
"She's very determined," Danny said. "Even after I mentioned what it all entailed, she was very stubborn." Even if he confiscated the gear she have, Danny had a feeling that it won't stop her. When she wanted something, she would do whatever it took to get it.
Jazz hummed with interest. "Okay, question two: what do you feel about this? She may be determined, but so was I when I first tried to help you with the ghost fights."
"And look at how well that turned out," Danny quipped.
Jazz rolled her eyes in good humor, "She may be a valuable ally, and the others may or may not be accepting of Paulina wanting to help, but the decision is, ultimately, yours to make. Whatever you decide, I'll support you."
Danny reflected on what his sister had told him, weighing the choices and consequences.
"Okay, I think I know what to do…"
It was a clear night, the full moon bathed the park in silvery light as a gentle breeze softly played with the leaves of the trees and Danny's snowy locks. He stood underneath a lamppost, arms folded as he waited.
'Here goes everything,' Danny thought, glancing to the tote at the base of the lamppost before looking back up. 'I hope that this goes well enough.'
A pair of arms encircled him from behind, startling him from his thoughts. "Hello Handsome~"
"Geez, you're getting sneakier than some of the ghosts I know!" Danny wriggled out of her hold, turning to face her.
"How are you this wonderful night?" Paulina asked, giving a coy grin.
"I'm good," Danny replied, then took a breath in preparation for what he was about to do, "Paulina, I've put a lot of thought over your… preposition."
"Oh?"
"Yeah… I'm going to have to ask you to return your gear."
The hopeful smile that she had crumpled, the despondent look she got caused something to ache in Danny, "what? But I… oh."
"It's not like that!" The ghost boy grabbed the tote the rested by his feet, holding it out to the Latina. Teal eyes flicked up at the ghost boy in confusion before Paulina reached into the tote, a look of pleasant surprise made way on her face. "You did mention that the thermos clashed with your look, so… I may have gotten some equipment that more matched your colors."
She examined the onyx and pink thermos, fishing out the other items that were like her own. "Besides replacements for what you already have, I've also thrown in some other things and chargers for the blasters."
"Does this mean-"
"I'm willing to give this a try," Danny said, "besides, I don't think I can actually stop you, so I might as well make sure you're safe while doing so."
Paulina squealed in joy, glomping the ghost boy in an enthusiastic embrace, "Oh thank you Danny! Thank you for this chance!"
And thus was the start of something new.
