Chapter 16- where has Trixie gone!?
Among the clans or some of the members of the clans that made up the mixed-species tribe that chose to live in the trees of the grove below the Árbol de la Casa, among them some of the glaucous macaws of Rodrigo's clan, it had been found that another chick had gone missing. In the family of the missing chick, panic and fluster was erupting. Tristan, Quincy and Sapphire cowered in one corner as Sirius cried hysterically.
"WHAT could have HAPPENED TO HER!" cried their father, his wings on his forehead, "SHE WAS RIGHT BEHIND US!"
"Are you SURE she was with us when we were returning to our hollow before the storm, Sirius!?" demanded Samara angrily. Ever since the family had found Trixie missing, Samara had become UTTERLY furious with Sirius and the father had tried to fly out into the worsening air to find her but had been commanded by the clan elders to stay in the hollow for his safety. The clan elders had also tried searching for Trixie but had been forced to abandon the search after the storm made things too dangerous to fly. Now Sirius had been questioning over and over again Trixie's disappearance. Then Sirius finally broke down.
"Oh, this is ALL MY FAULT!" he wailed, "IF ONLY I HADN'T BEEN SO STUPIDLY CARELESS..."
"You have INDEED BEEN SO STUPIDLY CARELESS, you IDIOT!" screeched Samara angrily. Tristan, Quincy and Sapphire winced at the storm as it increased to the same level as the one outside as thunder roared at the air out there. Samara continued to yell at her mate.
"You know FULL WELL that Trixie CANNOT fly as FAST AS US or HER BROTHERS AND SISTER!" she bellowed, "AN' NOW WE ARE FORCED TO WAIT UNTIL THAT STORM HAS LESSENED ENOUG FOR US TO LOOK FOR HER! SHE could be OUT THERE... STRUGGLING TO FIND SHELTER IN THOSE DANGEROUS CONDITIONS at the MERCY OF THOSE ELEMENTS AND THOSE PREDATORS... BECAUSE OF YOU!"
Sirius continued to weep and wail as Samara finally reached a critical point of her temper explosion at him.
"ONCE you are DONE WEEPIN', I WANT YA OUTA THIS HOLLOW," she yelled, "AN' YOU'LL BE STAYIN OUTA OUR HOLLOW UNTIL TRIXIE is FOUND! IF NOT, THEN I'M AFRAID THE CONSEQUENCES are GONNA BE DIRE, ESPECIALLY REGARDING US TWO!"
Then Tristan decided to take action. Standing up and rushing to confront the inferno as Sirius' sobbing increased in intensity, he began to confront his mother.
"DON'T say THAT, MOM!" wailed the oldest son of the couple.
"BUTT OUT, TRISTAN!" snapped Samara as she went to retreat into her and Sirius' bed nest compartment, "AN' STAY OUTA THIS! YOUR FATHER has been a FOOL IN ALLOWING YOUR LITTLE SISTER TRIXIE to GO MISSING! Now NO MORE INTERFERENCE FROM YOU or YOU WILL BE IN SERIOUS TROUBLE! UNDERSTAND!?"
Tristan replied with an angry face but that only stoked the fire. Samara screamed at him to go to his room and to leave her alone, making the teen bolt to said area. Quincy and Sapphire also flinched violently. Then Samara left for her and Sirius' compartment to leave Sirius to continue sobbing; Samara's scathing words having lacerated him. Then Tristan, despite the fright from his mother's yelling at him, left his room and went over to his father with Quincy and Sapphire. The three then sat with Sirius to comfort him.
"Trixie honestly can't have gone far, Dad," said Tristan, trying to assure his sobbing father.
"I think we are at fault too..." added Sapphire. However, Sirius demanded that the three leave him alone and go to their rooms while he continued to sob. Tristan, wincing from this, darted off back to his room compartment with his brother and sister following. Moments later, the three heard the sounds of wing-flaps from the hollow and as Sapphire peered out from behind the lip, she saw that Sirius was no longer there.
"Brothers," she said, "Dad has disappeared."
Quincy and Tristan came in and peered into the main living compartment and saw the absence of Sirius. The moment they saw their father's absence, sadness washed over them and they glared at their mother in her and Sirius' compartment. Then some time later, Samara called the three to a berry and Brazil nut lunch but they refused to obey. Samara lost patience and she peered into the room where the three chicks had their backs turned, their sour faces glaring at the wall.
"Tristan, Quincy, Sapphire, you three get your butts to the main compartment and eat your fruit NOW!" she demanded. Still no reply from ANY of them to Samara's boiling anger and further and more rapid loss of patience.
"You'll NOT get ANY lunch if you three refuse to do as I say," she threatened, "Now COME AND GET LUNCH!"
"No," snapped Tristan.
"Us going without lunch is perfectly fine with us," Sapphire flatly replied.
"Leave us alone," added Quincy. That sent disgust tearing through Samara and she finally lost patience completely at her three older kids' behaviour.
"Is this about me and your father!?" she demanded. The three didn't reply at first. Finally, Sapphire spoke.
"What do YOU think, Mother!?" she sourly replied. Samara breathed an exasperated sigh, walked into Tristan's room and began to angrily explain to the three.
"Your father has been a fool in your little sister Trixie's going missing in this storm, you three, so he's out of our hollow for some time..."
"I'd say it's ALL OUR fault that she's gone missing," Tristan interrupted.
"Excuse me, son!?" asked Samara in shock at her older son's brusqueness.
"Well, ALL of us are at fault for Trixie's going missing, Mom," replied Sapphire, agreeing with Tristan's statement, "We were so eager in getting out of that storm to avoid its full fury that we failed to check on her to see if she was with us," tears then welled within her eyes and began running down her cheeks as the guilt over Trixie's disappearance finally reached critical. Her brothers also felt the guilt at over what happened to Trixie bite within them like the jaws of a crocodile and they began to weep. Then Tristan stood up and gazed out of the hollow via a small window in his room. The rain continued pelting down and the winds gusted outside.
"Once the storm has stopped, we're gonna go out and search for her," Trixie's oldest brother said, "If anything at ALL has happened to her because of us, we will NEVER forgive ourselves."
Sapphire and Quincy didn't say anything but they agreed with their brother. Then Sapphire looked at Samara.
"Please don't evict Father," she said, "It won't make anything better."
"And no, we're not hungry for lunch," added Quincy. The other two nodded in agreement. Then Samara felt her patience run out. Standing up, she left the three chicks to sit near Tristan's bed nest.
"Well, if you don't want your lunch then fine, suit yourselves," said their mother and with that, she walked out of the room to eat the food herself. The three continued to sit together in Tristan's room, weeping over Trixie's disappearance and Samara's kicking Sirius from the hollow.
At Falkor's medical tree, Pietro, Carolina, Archie and Cersei (who had been out of breath from the speedy and extremely risky flight through the storm to rescue the chick and back but had taken some time to regain control of their breathing)sat near a moss bed Ámbar the lutino blue-and-gold macaw had prepared and now containing the chick with the sunken right eye and growth above its left. Falkor and some medical assistants looked over the little creature as it shivered and struggled to breathe. They had dried off the chick from the rainwater with dry moss and had wrapped him in a large leaf to keep him warm for his feathers were still wet and thus acted like a heat-absorbing coat and sapped the chick of his precious body heat. While the four looked on, worry for the chick boiling within them, Augustus and Antares appeared, concern for the quartet compelling them to come here and check on them but Antares had an additional concern and reason as there was hope on his face as well. As Falkor continued to examine the weak chick as he continued to shiver from the cold in the leaf-blanket, Pietro asked the first question.
"Is he gonna be alright, Falkor?" asked Sirius and Bellatrix and also Wanda's brother and Carolina's mate.
"He is very weak and freezing cold from exposure to the high winds and rain out there and his feathers are still wet despite our efforts to dry him off with the dry moss," Falkor replied before shooting him, Carolina, Cersei and Archie an angry glare, "How COULD you just leave this poor chick out there, on a rock with NO shelter from SUCH horrific conditions!?"
"He told us that he was waiting for his family," said Archie, "And that there would be trouble for us from them if we removed him from that exposed perch."
Then the guilt at leaving the little chick out on that exposed rock in the storm flared within the muscled flying fox and the three macaws. Antares went to examine the chick to see if he was from one of the families of the glaucous macaw clan living in the tribe but also for another reason.
"But when I had a HORRIBLE feeling that it could not be true, we went back to get him," said Carolina. Falkor then turned to gaze at the shivering chick.
"Well, it's a good thing you risked yourselves out there in rescuing this poor chick," said the milicinth macaw, "otherwise he would have succumbed to the storm. Storms like this one are deadly to ANY exposed creatures, you know."
"Please, can you nurse that chick back to health," begged Archie.
"I will do what I can," said Falkor, "But in the meantime, you four return to your hollows and families and wait until this storm is over or lessened enough for us to safely leave our shelters."
The four nodded and with that, they stood up and left Falkor's medical tree. Antares finished examining the chick.
"I don't think this chick is one of ours, Falkor," he said, "I don't recall any of our clan's chicks having those... um... features on their face like he does. Further, he's too wet and cold for a proper examination..."
"We'll talk to him once he's back to health, Antares," said Falkor, "Can you please leave us to treat him and get him properly warmed up?"
Antares nodded and left to allow Falkor and his assistants to tend to the chick. He gazed at Augustus as he also frowned at the chick with his single eye and revealed the other reason for his coming with the flying fox patriarch to here.
"When I heard that Pietro, Carolina, Cersei and Archie have found a chick in the storm, Augustus," he said, "I initially thought it was Trixie who is still missing but now seeing that that chick is NOT Trixie... I'm UTTERLY disappointed..."
"I know," said Augustus, his one-eyed gaze on him, "Her family's in UTTER turmoil over her disappearance and we had been forced to call off all search attempts for her due to the storm's severity making flight unsafe in the jungle."
"I'm gonna return to my family's hollow and wait until the storm has finished," said Antares, turning to the exit, "I have two serious matters to deal with: Trixie's disappearance and what Rudi's daughter Katrina had attempted to do to Bia from the Spix macaw tribe but sadly," he shot the storm a frustrated glare, "The storm has put everything on hold as you've said. We're gonna have to wait until it lessens before we can implement these plans..." and with that, he hopped onto the hollow's lip and flapped off in a hasty return to his hollow where his family was waiting. Augustus breathed a sigh and gazed one final time at the chick as Falkor wrapped him in another large leaf to warm him up. Like everyone else who had heard what had almost happened to Bia at Katrina's clutches, Augustus had been UTTERLY horrified and furious, but as Antares said, dealing with the matter will have to wait until the storm lessened. Then Augustus left the hollow on his hasty return to his own.
Antares quickly entered one of the large trees big enough to house multiple families in its trunk and chosen by a few of the glaucous macaw families to live in, among them himself and Alvin and Isabella while Sirius and his family had chosen to live in a tree with a single hollow, hurried inside and shook his feathers of the rainwater.
"I'm incredibly surprised and astonished that Pietro and the other three had managed to rescue that chick in that NASTY storm," he said in awe, "It sure is unsafe and difficult to fly out there..."
"Did they find Trixie?" asked Bellatrix as she exited her family's compartment having put Levi, Phoebe and Aiden, her and Antares' children, to bed. Antares shook his head to his mate's sadness.
"It was another chick your brother, sister-in-law and two of Orion's childhood friends had found on some rock in the middle of an exposed area of the jungle," he said, "And when I examined him closely, he doesn't appear to be from any of our clan's families. Now I don't know if he is from the outside or somewhere else, perhaps even my brother Rudi's clan but we'll find out once he becomes well enough to talk. He's in Falkor's care at the moment."
As he spoke, Alvin appeared, a frown on his face.
"Well, it certainly was foolish of Pietro and the other three to fly out into such dangerous conditions like that," he said, "they could have got badly hurt, and as much as I and Isabella are seriously worried for Trixie upon hearing of her disappearance and Volo's parents also wondering where their son is, I'm sorry to say that we're gonna have to wait until this storm's intensity has decreased such that flying conditions are safer."
"Yes, we can't risk anyone getting hurt out there," put in Isabella, before nodding into her and Alvin's hollow area, "In fact, Sirius nearly crashed into our tree when a HUGE gust of wind caught him and accelerated him towards it at an alarming speed. Good thing your mate Bellatrix and your father-in-law here caught him before he could go careening into the trunk or into the hollow and hurting himself..."
Surprise flashed within Antares. "Sirius has come here? Why?"
"He had a MASSIVE fallout with Samara over Trixie's disappearance and he told us that she has kicked him out and now he wants to stay in here for a bit," explained Alvin.
"Samara has kicked Sirius out, into THIS dangerous air!?" Antares blurted out in flabbergast, his wing gesturing to the high winds and hammering rain outside the hollow entrance. Lightning flashed in the sky as he said this. Then Antares saw a familiar sleeping form in a nest in a compartment adjacent to the compartment in which Alvin and Isabella slept. However, the latter two would not allow Antares near Sirius for he had been very heartbroken when he turned up. Then anger flashed within Antares.
"I'm gonna go over to my cousin's hollow and have a SERIOUS word with her once this storm's lessened," he growled, "We can't have evictions like this during a difficult time and besides that, I'm gonna need her help in dealing with Rudi regarding what one of his daughters had attempted to do to Bia today AND we're gonna look for Trixie as well..."
"One thing at a time, Antares," Alvin told his son-in-law, "You can only do one thing or the other."
"Yes, but in the meantime, you return to your family's compartment and wait until the storm lessens," said Isabella. Antares opened his beak to protest but then obeyed and left with Bellatrix into their family's compartment. Alvin and Isabella returned to theirs.
"Orion has been to check on us just as Sirius nearly crashed into the hollow, Antares while you went to check on Pietro and the other three at Falkor's tree with that chick," said Bellatrix in a low voice, "And when he explained that Samara had kicked him out, he had been displeased as well. He wants to have a word with Samara too. He had left just as you showed up."
"Their termination of their pairing will NOT make things any better, I can tell you," said Antares as he and Bellatrix settled into their nest, "Not only will it make things worse but it will devastate Trixie's three older siblings, Quincy, Tristan and Sapphire as well. Anyway, let's get some rest and wait until that storm lessens."
Bellatrix nodded and with that, the pair snuggled up to each other and went to sleep.
Later
The storm continued to rage but not to the same degree as a while back. Winds continued to gust through the forest and the rains continued pouring down but not as severely. It was still somewhat unsafe to fly in but short distances between trees and cliffs were safer than long-distance flights like between territories so the plans to go and see Rudi about Katrina's behaviour was still on hold. In Samara's family's tree, Samara was trying to get Tristan, Sapphire and Quincy to eat but as before, the three were disobedient to their mother and absolutely refused to budge from Tristan's room for they were still angry with her for kicking Sirius out of the hollow. They had already had a snack earlier behind Samara's back as they felt a bit peckish but they refused to eat with their mother after she had kicked Sirius from their hollow. Samara's patience was rapidly running out.
"Do you three want to be grounded for a long time for NOT obeying my commands, you three?" she asked impatiently. No reply from any of the three teens, their backs still deliberately turned on Samara. Their mother finally snapped.
"Fine, a grounding punishment it is," she growled, "You three are grounded for a month and will NOT be allowed to hang out with your friends during that time."
"We are VERY upset with you for kicking Dad out of our hollow," said Tristan at last, his glare turned to his mother. Then Sapphire's eyes welled tears.
"I thought you told us that you and Dad were gonna stick together no matter what happens when you explained to us about how you met before you had us, even during those times you argued," she squeaked in a strangled voice. Samara opened her beak to retort but closed it, unable to form a reply. Then Quincy spoke, tears also streaming down his cheeks.
"I just HOPE we find Trixie SOON, Mother," he cried, "Then we'll be together again as a family like we've ALWAYS been..."
"Tristan, Sapphire, Quincy, I won't argue with you anymore," snapped Samara, "Come and get some food!"
"Mother, we're not in the mood to eat," replied Tristan as he and his brother and sister then turned their backs on Samara again, "We're sorry. Please leave us alone."
"Tristan, Quincy, Sapphire, enough of this attitude," snapped Samara, "Come and get some food NOW."
The three did not stir this time and kept their backs turned on their mother to make their anger with her for kicking Sirius out of the hollow perfectly clear. Samara continued to demand the three to come and eat.
"You three," she shouted, "Come on!"
Still no reply from the three teens to Samara's chagrin. Samara continued to call their names but she eventually gave up when she saw that they were not going to respond. Based on this, she made the decision to ground them for a month. Then a knock sounded at the hollow entrance.
"Who is it!?" snapped Samara irritably. Then a familiar voice sounded along with a pair of talons and wing-thumbs and feet. Samara looked up and, to her surprise; she saw a brown flying fox and a sea green glaucous macaw enter.
"We wanna word with you, cousin," said Antares in a serious tone of voice.
"Antares, Orion?" asked Samara.
"Yes, we've come to have a talk to you about what you did to Sirius a while ago," said Orion. Samara rolled her eyes in irritation, went over to her selection of fruit intended for herself and Tristan, Quincy and Sapphire which was mango and berries, moved it aside and went to sit with her cousin and flying fox friend.
"Have any search parties been sent out to look for Trixie lately?" asked Samara.
"No, the storm's still too severe and dangerous," said Antares with a headshake to Samara's disappointment, "We're sorry but that's not important right now."
"We have only been able to make the short flight to here from our hollows," said Orion.
"Then why have you come to discuss to me about Sirius?" asked Samara, her wings folded and her head jerking to shift a long feather from her face, "Is it about why I have kicked him out of this hollow?"
"Yes, and he is currently staying with our parents-in-law," said Antares, before his glare hardened, "Your eviction of him into this fierce storm was a VERY foolish thing to do, Samara."
"Yes, according to Antares and Bellatrix when I returned to check on them," explained Orion, "He nearly crashed-landed into the hollow from the strong winds while flying to it. Seriously, he could have ended up with a broken wing or something."
Samara turned her back on the pair and walked a couple of steps in anger at her mate. "I evicted him because of his STUPID carelessness resulting in our little daughter going MISSING!"
"Do you think that's gonna make things better?" asked Orion. As the flying fox spoke, three heads peered around the lip of the entrance to Tristan's room. Tristan, Quincy and Sapphire had heard Orion and Antares walk in and confront Samara over her eviction of Sirius. Antares continued.
"Listen, it was not just his fault for Trixie's disappearance," said he, "It is actually the fault of EVERYONE involved, including me and Bellatrix. We had been too focussed on getting out of the storm that we failed to do a proper headcount of our kids and when we heard that Trixie had gone missing, believe me, Bellatrix and I felt UTTERLY awful as well."
Samara turned and looked at her cousin as he then glared at the storm outside. "And now we're paying the price of UTMOST frustration at not being able to conduct a search for our lost family member because of THAT downpour outside," he then returned his gaze to his cousin, "and we're SERIOUSLY racked with worry for poor Trixie who is lost out there but I just hope she hasn't gone far. In fact, I went to Falkor's infirmary tree with Augustus after hearing that Pietro, Carolina and two others had found a chick on an exposed rock outcrop only to find that the chick ISN'T Trixie to my UTMOST disappointment. But once that storm has lessened, search parties will be set up and sent out by Rodrigo and Ceu, and Augustus and Melissa."
Samara then felt remorse at kicking Sirius out of the hollow wash over her and she lowered her head in shame.
"Yes, you should feel bad," said Orion with a frown, "And if you're considering terminating your pairing with him, you can get that idea right out of your head too."
"Yes, not only will it make things worse for you and Sirius but it won't do your other three chicks good either," added Antares, "And certainly not Trixie once she's found."
Samara winced at this and so did Tristan, Quincy and Sapphire who were listening from the former's room. Antares continued. "But that aside, we need to deal with another important matter and that is what Rudi's daughter Katrina had almost done to Bia, one of Blu and Jewel's daughters. I have decided to go over to my brother and confront him along with Jewel and Ruby and I would like you to come with us as Rudi is also your cousin. We will deal with this once that storm is, again, less severe."
Samara looked up sadly at Antares and winced as she remembered that incident.
"But at the same time, search parties will be looking for Trixie," added Orion, "After all, it is important that that little chick is found and returned to you ASAP as it is dangerous out in the jungle for a little teen macaw, even if it is in or near our home grove."
Samara nodded in understanding to this. There were dangerous predators out in the forest that lived with the mixed-species tribe in their home grove as well as its periphery and Samara dreaded to think of what kind of danger Trixie could be in right now. Then finally coming to grips with reality, she gazed sadly at the two visitors.
"Okay, I will get ready for searching for our missing daughter and prepare to confront Rudi over what his daughter had almost done to Bia," she said, "And as for Sirius, can he be sent back here please? I wanna make up with him..."
That made smiles form on the beaks of Tristan, Quincy and Sapphire. However, those smiles were dashed when Antares replied, "He will be staying at our in-laws' hollow for a while. Let that be a form of tough love and a lesson for kicking him out, especially in such dangerous conditions."
"Indeed," added Orion, before he turned to the hollow entrance, "Anyway, we'd better return to our hollows before conditions become unsafe to fly in again but we expect you to make up with Sirius as soon as you can and we'll see you once the storm has lessened."
And with that, the flying fox and Samara's cousin turned and walked towards the hollow entrance. Samara, her eyes welling tears as the regret at evicting Sirius reached critical, followed them. as the pair prepared to fly out into the still-stormy air for their hasty return to their hollows, Antares and Orion bade Samara farewell and a reminder of the important jobs of confronting Rudi over Katrina's treatment of Bia, finding Trixie and making up with Sirius and within moments, the pair was gone. Samara was left alone and feeling the guilt at kicking Sirius out eventually reach critical at last, she rushed to her bed-nest and broke down hard. Tristan, Sapphire and Quincy gazed at their mother and returned to the former's room, leaving her to sob.
The Spix tribe's ravine
The ravine home of the tribe of the extremely rare blue macaws was largely empty of blue feathered forms and filled with the downpour and winds. The surface of the pool at the bottom churned with the machine gun-like rains and shearing winds and the lilypads were blown wildly about. Though the storm was not as severe as earlier, it was still harsh. Bia was still in Nuvem and Cassia's infirmary tree being treated for the claw and bite marks the nasty Katrina had given her and Nuvem had been examining her neck and had found a ring of horrific blotches, bruises, under the cerulean feathers where Katrina's talon chokehold had held Bia and almost fatally suffocated her, had been. Bia's claw marks were now beginning to show signs of healing and repair but it will take some time for them to completely heal up and disappear. Bia's brother Neptune had been discharged as he only had a scratch on his shoulder so he was back with Blu, Jewel, Arrokoth and Chrysocolla at the family's hollow. However, Carla and Tiago, together with Virgil, were present, having decided to stay in the infirmary to be with Bia. In addition, another macaw was present. It was Bia's ex Raul and he had returned from his 'adventures' outside the ravine. He had arrived late and by the time he had returned to the ravine, the storm was already in full swing. His parents, named Jacobo and Donna, had been UTTERLY cross with their son for arriving home so late and in such dangerous conditions but when they saw that Raul had been badly scratched on the flank, they had rushed him to Nuvem and Cassia's infirmary tree for treatment where he was now. His parents were waiting nearby as one of Nuvem's assistants treated Raul's scratch. He had been asked how he had received the set of claw marks and Raul told them that he had a narrow escape from a jaguar flying home. However, that was dubious and even Jacobo and Donna knew this. Firstly, the claw marks were too narrow to be from the claws of a jaguar and secondly, one swipe from a jaguar's paw was enough to instantly kill a macaw, especially a small teen macaw. But the REAL source of the claw marks was Raul's former 'friends', lead by two certain nasty glaucous macaws. One of them had slashed Raul over the side when he objected to what they had done to a certain little macaw including leaving her for dead in a jaguar's den and either Millie or Tillie had inflicted him with the claw marks and chased him out of their group, leaving Raul to return home in the dangerous storm, and it was a wonder that he had made it home safely and without any further injury. However, he had been soaked to the skin from the rain, so he was dried at the infirmary with dry moss after his parents had rushed him to here and before his scratch was seen to.
As Raul continued to receive treatment from Nuvem's assistant who cleaned his claw marks using wet moss, he flinched from the angry glares of his parents, those glares stinging him as much as the pain from his claw marks. They knew he had something to hide and they wanted to dig it out and they planned on confronting him as soon as Nuvem's assistant had finished treating his scratches. Raul had an additional group that shot him bitter glares from across the room. Carla, Bia, Tiago and Virgil would glare at him for a second and then turn their faces away when he looked their way, especially Bia since she was still resentful towards him for dumping her for another female macaw, which was eventually revealed to be Aguamarina, the forbidden Spix macaw who had been evicted from the Spix macaw tribe along with her mother Myrtle for their vile attitude, especially towards the red macaw tribe and also Jewel and her family, and THAT was another reason for Raul's being in churning Amazon River water with his parents. However, this was not the biggest reason why Raul was so scared of his parents, and once that has been brought to the light, a thunderstorm was sure to erupt, like the one outside the hollow.
Carla, Bia, Tiago and Virgil continued to glare at Raul as thunder growled outside, the winds roared and the rains hammered and took in his restlessness.
"I have a bad feeling, you three," the fourth one said, "He certainly has something to hide, and it is NOT good."
"Turning up so late with the storm in full swing with such nasty claw marks on his side, it's no wonder he's been in a lot of trouble with Mr Jacobo and Mrs Donna lately," said Carla.
"Especially after they had found out that he had been hanging out with that rotten Aguamarina," growled Bia bitterly. She then shot that acerbic glare at Raul and he winced and looked away, too ashamed to look at her for another second.
"True, and if I had turned up late in those conditions out there like he did," said Tiago, "Mom and Dad would NOT be pleased. It's extremely unsafe to fly in those winds and rain."
"The crosscurrents could easily send you into a turbulent flight with the risk of injury," said Bia, "And with no smooth, laminar flow of air over your wings' airfoils due to the angle of attack of your wings being thrown all over the place by the winds, you can't stay airborne."
The other three tittered at Bia's nerdy traits.
"Absolutely, Bia," said Virgil, "and you end up crashing and hurting yourself."
The three older chicks of Blu and Jewel nodded to this. Then Carla's glare returned to an ashamed and restless Raul.
"By the way, do you three agree that Raul's story that he got swiped by a jaguar on his way back here is rather dubious?" she asked.
"Well, one thing is you wouldn't be able to survive a jaguar's paw swipe, especially as a teen," said Virgil, "And another thing, those claw marks are too narrow to be the claw marks from that big cat of the forest floor."
Carla examined the claw marks on Raul's side and examined their size before looking at the claws of one of her talons.
"Based on their size," she said, "They look like they came from a teen macaw than a jaguar. Those claw marks' width clearly match our claws' size."
The other three gazed at her.
"Are you meaning to say that a teen macaw did that?" asked Virgil.
"Well, if the macaw that had inflicted those claw marks on him are Aguamarina," said Bia, "then I wouldn't be surprised. That macaw is such a NASTY brat to say the least."
Tiago opened his beak to speak when the four heard Nuvem's assistant call Donna and Jacobo over.
"I've applied some paste to his scratch," the four looked up and saw the macaw speak to a pair, one who was a blue male with a partial white face mask enclosing his eyes and the other a sky blue female with a complete white face. The faces of both these adult macaws were aflame with crossness. "The scratches should heal within a few days but make sure that they do NOT get any dirt in them or the scratch will become infected. You will need to stay here until that storm has lessened as the rain will wash off the medical paste."
Jacobo and Donna nodded before shooting their angry glares at Raul who flinched. The macaw was holding a leaf with the paste on his scratch to help keep the temporary nature-sourced 'bandage' over it. Then after thanking the assistant, the couple took their son and ordered him aside to confront him.
"Right, we're on," said Carla angrily and she prepared to join the confrontation.
"Carla, where are you going?" asked Tiago.
"That matter is for Mr Jacobo and Mrs Donna to sort out," added Virgil. Carla didn't answer and went over to the three anyway. Tiago and Virgil rolled their eyes and followed her. Bia decided to stay back.
"You three go ahead," said she, "I cannot stand that ex of mine anyway and secondly, I need to rest as these claw marks that Katrina had given me still hurt..." she winced from her still-hurting scratches and Cassia came by to check on her.
