Chapter 0 An Unforgivable Sea

The salty wind from the ocean was blowing hard, slapping the sails of the ship as it ploughed through the waters of the eastern ocean. A man, plump and rather short in stature, stood on the deck. His curly black hair was blowing in the wind. His clothes, once elegant and immaculate, were tinged with a light copper color due to the time he had spent at sea and in contact with the different elements present on the ship. It had been more than a month since they had docked at some decent port and where he could enjoy the pleasures of a proper bath, soap and company of tasteful proportions.

He was a merchant. He carried different items to the eastern lands. His destination was Zipangu. A city in the east, a place that many pointed out as heretics and others as closed-minded people. He just called them "adoring shoppers".

Spices and weapons from the West, all destined to end up in the hands of a wealthy buyer.

At least that was the original plan.

It was perhaps a bad trick of fate that happened. Perhaps the goddess of the oceans was angry with him for not paying tribute. In his defense, he only called money a god. And perhaps the goddess of fortune who smiled so much at him when he played cards.

Be that as it may, that storm came out of nowhere. It was fortunate that he made it out alive. He could not afford death. He had plenty of money to collect and a beautiful daughter to see again.

For two weeks he was stranded in a port he could barely reach. After losing the previous ship and most of its crew, he looked for someone who could take him to his destination. No one accepted. The waters were dangerous, few would venture without proper compensation and they would not help a stranger out of the goodness of their heart.

He almost gave up, he even thought of stealing a small boat to go and pick up the remains of his first ship and embark on an adventure to Zipangu himself. Just like in those unbelievable stories he used to hear in the seedy taverns he frequented when he went on his travels. It was then that he managed to find someone who agreed to help him. Or maybe that person found him.

It was a chance encounter. Something that perhaps fate contrived. A savior covered in blue and white.

Although after living with him and his crew for a month, she began to question the type of person he was.

Gradually he turned his head, until over his shoulder he could see the rudder. The distance and the fact that he was looking out of the corner of his eye made it difficult to get a clear picture of the ship's captain. He could barely make out his light blue and white attire with many brown belts. This in addition to his blond hair that waved in the wind.

He wondered how someone with such an elegant bearing ended up being a rum-addicted sailor.

He did not want to make an unpleasant view of the man who helped him, but he was someone strange and mysterious. When he met him he asked him for something, a down payment for his new and prosperous cooperation. Two coins so he could have some rum.

The mysterious captain exuded, apart from large amounts of rum, a dangerous aura. He was an experienced fighter and one who had war burned into his blue eyes. He carried two curved sabers, along with four strange looking weapons, they were like small crossbows, but lacked certain parts that made them functional. He wasn't sure what kind of things they were and their owner chose not to talk about it. Something of a "trade secret". A secret that made the merchant drool. His experience let him know, those weapons were created by carving wood and shaping metal. Something that was sure to make even a dwarf's beard stand on end. If he could get his hands on one of them then...

He shook his head fervently. The captain was someone to watch out for and as much as the money tempted him, he would rather not be on the receiving end of the edge of those swords. Besides, something else stood out about the man. It was just a buckle that sat on a belt on his chest. It was a metal object in the shape of a semicircle with three prongs, one pointing up and the other two to the sides, but what stood out the most was the skull design in the center.

It was a design that was not used by normal sailors. Only one type of person used it.

"Fog bank in sight!" was the thunderous shout from the lookout up there on the main mast, there in the crow's nest.

The merchant put aside his thoughts as he watched the ship slowly enter the fog bank. He stood there, impatient and fearful. He heard stories that the fog banks were a nest of monsters that would not hesitate to climb aboard to take the sailors to the depths.

The crew, neither slow nor stupid, began to make preparations for the situation. The bravest took up their swords, the cabin boy even tried to imitate his comrades by using his bucket of dirty water to clean the ship.

All was silence. Even the waves crashing against the bow of the ship were overshadowed by that deathly silence. The seconds slowed down. The weight of nerves took its toll on the hearts of the weaker sailors, who in silence could only pray to see the other side of the fog bank.

The crew gradually let their guard down.

The merchant also calmed down. Maybe he let those stories of drunken sailors get too much into his mind.

"Ah!" a crewman was suddenly attacked. Through the fog, a silhouette came into view. Human, but not quite.

"They're on the boat!" shouted another.

Thus, an almost blind battle began. The trader could not see much more than a foot or two in front of his nose, but he could hear clearly. He could hear those sailors being attacked and counterattacking in response. The sound of metal cutting through the air. The cries for help followed by ever-increasing splashes.

The frightened merchant decided it would be best to hide in the cabins or elsewhere away from the attack. In his flight, he saw how, in the fog, the sailors fought, but strange tentacle beings caught them and dragged them off the ship into the vast ocean waters.

"Mr. trader! Come down now!" shouted one of the sailors who was in his way.

The chubby man wanted to say something, but the good Samaritan was pulled by white tentacles.

Surprise caused the merchant to fall to the wooden floor. With renewed energy, and with the intention of not being caught, the man threw his dignity overboard and ran away crawling like a baby.

"What the hell is going on!" was the merchant's complaint.

His face then lit up as he finally saw the door that led into the ship. He was safe! He could live another day!

"Gotcha!" was what a female voice said behind him. Moments later, he was lying on the floor, with a young brown-haired girl climbing on top of him.

He could only watch in horror as this "girl" was no such thing. The lower half of her body was far from human. Several pairs of tentacles were there. Holding onto his body with suction cups and imprisoning him in a lethal embrace.

"We'll have a great time together!" the young woman said in a high, excited tone.

It couldn't be possible. Only his luck could be so bad. What did he do to deserve this fate? Yes, he was a liar and a cheat. He never gave a tithe and he was not interested in donating, but he was a good man! He loved his daughter above all things and worked from sunrise to sunset to give her everything and more!

"Please...someone...save me..." He cried as he closed his eyes. He could feel the suckers of those gelatinous tentacles sticking to him more and more.

The next thing he felt was how something slimy hit his face and how his body suddenly felt lighter.

"Aaaaaaa! My tentacle! My tentacle!" the merchant opened his eyes. He saw that tentacular monstrosity that had trapped him was now writhing on the musty wooden floor. He blinked. what had happened?

"How much longer are you going to stay there?" questioned a manly voice beside him.

The merchant turned his face. The first thing he saw was a distinctive blue and white suit. A smile was plastered on his face and his sword was drawn. The merchant recognized that blond hair and the three-day beard there. In addition to the buckle with a skull on his chest holding a belt.

"Ca-Captain..." he whispered in perplexity.

"You should get that thing off your chest, it's still moving." Confused, the plump man looked down. His expression changed to one of complete disgust when he saw that, still attached to his body, was a tentacle. He quickly removed it and threw it away from his sight.

The ship's captain advanced towards the monster girl, who was still moaning in pain and swung his sword to the side, wiping the fluids with which it was stained from its blade.

The monster girl looked at him with fear and caution. She had let her guard down at a bad time and didn't hear that man approaching.

Angry at the interruption. The young tentacle monster stood up and leaned her upper half forward. Thus taking a more aggressive stance. She already had her eyes on the man on the ground. He was going to be hers.

"I would rather avoid conflict. We had a party last night and I'm still hung over. Go away and don't come back." Said the captain. "Attack, and it will be the last thing you do."

The young monster did not respond to the threat. She was not going to be intimidated. She was only one. And they were more.

"What's taking you so long!" questioned a new female voice.

"Is the fat man so heavy that you need help?" asked another.

"Wow...what do we have here. A strong, tough man." Added one last voice.

From the fog, three figures, similar to the monster girl with the severed tentacle, approached. They all shared the same characteristic. Tentacles instead of legs. Despite the monstrous image, the captain did not flinch. The merchant was another story, who, terrified, managed to get his legs to respond and made it into the cabins.

This only made the former frown. The later, the more trouble it would cause.

"I won't repeat it. Get off my ship." Warned the captain. "Or taste my steel."

"This human is... different." Said the last to arrive. She, unlike the first three, was older, someone who showed more experience and intelligence. Even with this her favor, her instincts were superior. "I'll take it."

The captain took the hilt of his second sword, which until that moment remained at his waist, and pointed it at the four monster girls.

"Then this is the end of the negotiations." The one who functioned as the leader of the small group of monsters frowned at the captain's refusal. They weren't looking for a fight, they just longed to find husbands to love for all eternity. Besides, they were also hungry and could smell the food on the ship. Sweet fruits, meats, alcohol. They craved it all.

"Subdue him." Commanded the leader.

The four monstrous women pounced on the captain with their tentacles flailing and their claws ready to attack. But the captain was an experienced fighting man and was well armed. With his swords in each hand, he managed to stand up to the creatures.

Deftly, the captain danced across the deck with his two swords. He evaded the monsters' attacks with his nimble footwork and counterattacked.

The fight was fierce. The captain skillfully fended off the attacks of the monstrosities, managing to wound them with his sword and pistol. But the creatures would not give up so easily. They continued to attack with ferocity. One of them attacked head-on, but it was only a feint. When the captain launched a slash with his right sword, another of the monsters launched its tentacles and imprisoned the man's arm and tried to drag him into the sea.

The man knew that if he was taken to more disadvantageous ground then that would be the end of him.

The captain struggled to free his arm from the tentacles of that sea monstrosity. At the same time, he was forced to dodge the attacks. Despite his experience, he realized that he was being outnumbered. Then, an idea occurred to him. He decided to use the environment as a weapon. After dodging a new onslaught from one of those creatures, he kicked its back with such force that he managed to send it back into the ocean.

The monster girl holding him shouted her comrade's name, which opened a window of opportunity that the captain didn't miss to stretch his tentacles towards him. The monster girl clung to the wood with her multiple suction cups, but that was just what the captain expected. The man charged at her and leapt, delivering a knee to her face that disoriented her and caused her to release the man's arm.

An attacker from behind, taking advantage of the opportunity, tried to tackle him, but to no avail. The captain managed to cut the tentacles of the creatures and wound them severely. Which caused her to start screaming in pain to finally fall to the ground and find her life ended by the man's sword. Finally, he managed to get rid of one more of them.

The merchant peeked through the door. He was curious. The captain was someone mysterious and it was clear he knew how to fight, but he wanted to know how good he was at his job.

It was almost magical what he saw. A single swordsman in a lethal dance against four monstrosities spat from the deepest pit in the ocean.

Seeing that a single man was able not only to stand up to the numerical disadvantage, but also to overcome them, the bravery and bravado of the monsters diminished. There in front of them was a sailor. No, it was incorrect to refer to that person in that way. It was more. It was like seeing a grim reaper.

"Let's get this over with." The man picked up his lost saber from the ground and began walking towards them. The two remaining monsters trembled in terror as they saw this monster killer approaching.

The waters then splashed once more. A shadow was cast from above and the captain took a quick step backwards to avoid any attack from above. But it was not to be. With grace and agility, a new monster dropped to the deck of the ship.

The captain observed the new apparition. A woman with white tentacles. She was different from the previous ones, but despite the change he did not flinch. She for her part looked at him closely and then looked at the lifeless body of the poor wretch. That poor girl. She had only followed her to get a husband. It was not to end this way. The best thing to do would be to resort to words. Violence had already caused too much damage.

"Greetings, navigator. Let me clarify the situation. We do not..."

"I don't care what you have to say." Interrupted the man. "They attacked my ship. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get good men?"

"If you would let me explain then you would see that we had no bad intentions. I heard stories. Of a man who took the sea as his love. Someone who sails these waters. A hooded pirate they nickname, the reaper in white." Hearing that made the merchant's eyes widen. All this time he was on the white reaper's ship? Even in the distant lands of the Order his name could be heard in the cantinas and dingy taverns. "It's you... I finally find you. The stories don't do you justice."

"You flatter me, but I'm not interested." Replied the ship's captain without hesitation. "Pollywogs are not welcome."

"You don't have to be defensive, my love. I promise you my intentions are pure." The woman tried to approach, but received an attack.

It was something almost at lightning speed. The captain had dropped one of his swords and with great speed grabbed one of those weapons strapped to his chest and pulled the trigger. The projectile flew through the air, passing by the face of the squid monster woman. The projectile passed so close to her head that it cut several strands of hair.

The woman could only stay in her place. She watched the man with surprise and fear. That attack was too fast for her to react. She was sure that, if the projectile had hit, her soft body would have been pierced with extreme ease.

"I have three more shots. I only need one to end this." The captain looked at her with those beautiful blue eyes, almost like a precious gem that glittered in a dark cave and contrasted with the tanned skin from so many hours in the sun.

He was perfect and the monster woman longed to possess him. Her reproductive instincts were triggered. She just had to be fast enough and she would have him. Attack fast and sink into the waters together. But in those eyes there was something else, an intention not to give up. She knew that, if she tried to get any closer than she should, his head would roll on the ground. Maybe if she incapacitated him in some way. No. That wasn't the modus operandi she used. She wanted to be gentle. To be able to show this man her love.

"Think carefully about what you will do. I doubt you want to be saddled with the death of another of your friends." She said gesturing to the two badly wounded women hiding behind her.

She looked at him once more. This was her love? A man so violent with monsters? Those were the worst kind. She thought the stories of that sailor in white were just exaggerations. They weren't. It was as she said, the stories didn't do justice about the man. He fought one on four and came out victorious, even she, who was much stronger than the Scylla tribal girls, would have a hard time out of the water.

She thought carefully. She had the strength to sink that ship, but she could feel the appreciation this man had for her. To sink it would cause his wrath and she did not wish it. She looked over her shoulder at the two girls similar to her, but of a different species. They had been through so much in such a short period of time. What was she to do? Let go of the chance to have a husband like him or save two innocent girls who were only following her.

"I... we surrender." The woman said. Holding up her hands. The privateer motioned with his head towards the woman's tentacles. She for an instant hesitated, but in the end raised her tentacles in surrender.

"Right. Now, you're a Kraken, aren't you?" he questioned. The woman looked surprised, though not much, a sailor like him would no doubt know many types of monsters in the ocean. "I hear your ink sells for a good price." A smile formed on the man's face. The kraken could see a smile forming on the sailor's face and felt very uneasy. Those blue eyes now sparkled with a new feeling. Greed. "If I can get a gallon or two then I can make a few coins."

The Kraken backed away. That man could not be planning anything good. She looked over her shoulder, those two girls were still there. Maybe saving them wasn't her best idea.

The merchant fell to his knees in the harbor after disembarking. Never in his life was he so happy to have touched dry land.

The sailors mocked him as they unloaded the cargo. That didn't matter to the merchant. Those people were crazy, and their captain was even crazier. He saw it! He saw first-hand how he subdued that monstrous sea creature and forced it to give him his ink! That captain was an evil apostle! No! He was the devil himself in human flesh!

And speak of the devil. The man disembarked, giving a salute to his crewmen and walked along the dock crossing next to the merchant.

"Remember our deal. I'll see you at the tavern, don't forget to bring two coins for some rum." She heard him say in a jovial tone.

The merchant could only watch as the man blended into the crowd and disappeared. Resigned, he stood up and wiped his pants and then looked at his wares. Almost 80% of his original embargo made it to Zipangu. All thanks to that diabolical captain who decided it was a good idea to go loot his old ship. He wasn't sure if he should give thanks or pray that this Captain would stay as far away from him as possible.

This is just an idea that I had, this chapter, let's say that it works as a small look at what I plan to do. Yeah, an Isekai with Edward James Kenway as the protagonist in the world of monster girls. I have more or less clear ideas but this story is not a priority so depending on how it is received I will update it.

I'll add some monster ecology.

The monster girls in this chapter are:

Scylla: a type of octopus's monster that raids ships and steals food and sailors to make them their husbands and although they flaunt Valentina when things go wrong they are very cowardly. It's not uncommon for them to follow the Krakens when these girls go looking for husbands so they can loot the leftovers.

Kraken: they are relatives of the Scylla's, but they are rarely seen, they are calm beings that prefer to live in the depths and only come to the surface to look for a husband. They have no problem with sinking ships to get what they want, but they are calm beings but they can be carried away by their instincts. Its ink is highly prized as it is used to create black flame chandeliers. These objects have the peculiarity that, instead of creating light, they hide it, thus creating an artificial shadow. They use their ink in the same way.
