A young woman walks quickly in the middle of the forest looking around.
— Nemu! — Shout loudly – Nemu! If this is a game, I'm not having fun! Our parents are going to be angry — Enri was angry, but the strongest feeling was that of fear. They must have returned to the village hours ago. She was in charge of her younger sister and by distracting herself by gathering herbs she did not realize that her sister went deeper into the Great Forest of Tob. A very dangerous place even for veteran adventurers. If it wasn't for her need to gather herbs to sell and put food on the table, she would never come anywhere near the forest.
Enri ran and screamed for her sister, terrified by the orange sky and the distance traveled. She could not return to the village at night and deep down, she knew that she would not return at all. A peasant woman and a girl surviving a night in the forest is impossible. At this point, she was running to find her sister so that both of them would not spend their last moments alone.
— Sorry father, mother. I couldn't take care of Nemu — Tears furrowed her skin cracked by the field sun -. I was a bad daughter. I'm sorry for the pain I'll make you feel — She murmured and cried while she continued looking for her younger sister. She had less than an hour left before sky got dark. In the dark, she couldn't reach for her sister to hold her and soothe her until she fell asleep forever.
Caught in her thoughts, she tripped over a branch and fell to the ground. She didn't get up immediately. She had no more strength or time. I cry on the muddy ground. She cried, like never before, in her moment of despair and like any human when all is lost, she began to pray for a miracle.
— Four Great Gods, please bring my sister to me. I just want to be with her— The sound of the wind moving the leaves of the trees was the response of the gods. Minutes passed until she spoke again —. God of Life, sorry for never praying to you. I swear I will follow you forever if you keep me and my sister alive — Enri sat against a tree waiting for a sign from the gods. A sign she didn't see —. God of Death, please I beg you. My soul will serve you forever. I only ask that you do not claim my sister tonight. Let her live a long life. I implore you, God of Death." In the end, she ended up with her forehead on the ground, her hands clasped in prayer, and the black sky obscuring Enri Emmot's last hopes.
Enri feels her body relaxed as she floats in nothingness. There is only blackness around her and a feeling of peace. She doesn't think about how she got there or why. She doesn't need it either. She instinctively knows that she will be fine. She can close her eyes and continue to sleep. Everything is and will be fine.
Not knowing how long she had been floating in the void, a light, a small illumination appeared in the distance. She averted her eyes from its, that light did not let her sleep. It light learned that she wasn't looking at its and moved into her line of sight. Enri took her eyes away from its again and the light also moved. A strange dance between Enri and the Light was created. Up and down. Right and left. Back and forth. Forth and back.
The first to break the dance was Enri. Frustrated, she widened her eyes and looked at the Light.
Suddenly, nothingness became the inside of a cave and Light became a small human— What? — On impulse, she got up from the makeshift bed of leaves and ran to the nearest wall.
The winged creature laughed. Laughter seemed like a melody to Enri. She felt how her body relaxed when she heard it. The creature came flying towards her and she could see it calmly. The creature is small, no taller than her head. Its body does not have any clothing and is similar to a human and at the same time not. Its doesn't have what the women have down there and from what her mother told her, it doesn't have what the men have either. A slender body, pink hair, pupilless eyes and insect wings combined with a light coming from its body, its reminded her of her best friend Nfirea.
One day when Nfirea and his grandmother stayed in the village for the night, he showed her an old book. He said it was a bestiary from Tob's forest. Since she would go to find herbs for him family, she had to be prepared for the dangers of the forest. She laughed at how nice he is. Showing a family treasure to a friend so that she is protected. In the book, different creatures are shown, from snakes, poisonous insects, trolls, nagas... among all those drawings and details I remember that this creature is named there.
— A fairy — She exclaims. She remembers that they are described as: Fairy: friendly, mischievous and territorial creature. It has very powerful magic. Don't trust them.
— **************** — Melodic noises come out of the fairy's mouth. Enri feels peace and security.
— Enri, I'm sorry — Nemu says through tears.
— Nemu, I'm sorry — Enri says through tears.
Several minutes they stayed hugging between apologies and I love you. Enri broke the hug first.
— I thought I would never see you again — Happy that her greatest fear was not fulfilled.
— Sorry for walking away. It's just that I was bored and I saw a light that was flying and dancing, so I followed it — Look away to see the fairy. Now there are three fairies with different hair colors looking at them —. Enri, they saved me. A large snake appeared that wanted to eat me and they scared it away. They even gave me food and water — She takes an apple out of her herbal bag.
— ******** — The three fairies speak. Three different melodies are sung in perfect harmony. The blue-haired fairy points towards the continuation of the cave. In the distance she can see rays of the sun. Nemu gets the message.
— Enri, Chup tells us that we should go —
Look at Nemu who is pulling her skirt and then at her exit, surprised by something — Chup? — She says as she lets herself be dragged.
- Yes, Chup. She is the little one with blue hair. And the redhead is called Kap — She says without a doubt.
Enri turns to look at the fairies who are watching them waving their hands in farewell — How do you know their names? —
With effort, Nemu pulls the skirt harder — I'll tell you later. We must go. They don't want us to be there when she arrives —
Enri separates her sister's hand from her skirt and grabs her hand. They continue walking towards the exit. She turns once more and the fairies continue to wave in her place. They don't seem so friendly anymore — Who arrives? —
— She — She pulls her arm so she can see her and points to the opposite wall — She —
Enri sees a painted mural. A woman dressed in gold and even more golden waist-length hair with dozens of fairies fluttering around her and three fairies placing a crown on her. Enri's body froze with implication.
— Titania doesn't like children, Chup and Kap told me, AGH You hurt me Enri — Nemu feels how her hand is crushed by Enri's.
— Let's go right now — Without wasting time, she loads her on her back and runs off.
— Slow down, Enri. I'm going to fall - Her words fall on deaf ears —. Goodbye Chup, Kap —
Leaving the cave and entering the forest, Enri listens — ************ Nemu ****** — She doesn't stop running. She just runs without knowing where she is going. Getting away from the cave is the most important thing. She runs through branches that cut her body, she runs through mud that makes her slip and hurt her knees, but she had to stop when a strong wind raised thousands of leaves that covered them. There were so many everywhere that she no longer saw the forest, only leaves spinning around the two of them. The sisters held each other until it stopped.
Suddenly, the wind stopped blowing and all the leaves fell down. In the distance they could see Carne Village. They turned around strangely and behind them was the beginning of the Great Forest of Tob.
The first to speak was Nemu — Sister, after dinner, I'll tell you all about my new friends. They are fun and super strong. Stronger than Nfirea for sure — She says as excited as any child who wants to show off her new friends —. Enri why are you pale?
—Nemu. Promise you'll only tell what you saw today to me —
— But sister —
— Uncomplainingly. Promise me — There's more of a plea than a command in her voice.
— I promise —
Enri hugs Nemu tightly.
This is how they were found by the villagers of Carne Village.
The first contact between the Golden Kingdom and the New World ended without incident and two lives saved.
Too bad the rest didn't stay the same.
I wrote this story in one afternoon. I'm trying another way to explain the events, dialogues and places. I accept any constructive criticism.
I plan to write more of this story. I hope you enjoy.
