"Ahhhh!" The bell rang. Eda's day had been the usual: fought a couple bullies, adamantly tested whether a flame repelling spell worked, and froze a kid accidentally on the way to school. That last one happened when trying to impress Lilith because they were having a private contest. She was wondering how long he would stay like that. Having already almost been late for class she had decided to check on him after school if he didn't show up in school at some point during the day. Lilith did not want her to ditch the student, but she too was late with Eda's shenanigans and she was in a rush.
"Hurry up Edalyn, before Faust catches us." Lilith almost screamed.
Eda turned toward Lilith while sneaking through the entrance. "That freak looking principal won't find us sis." She continues forward and stops abruptly. "Titan! 'Sup Fausty, how ya doin' on this terrible day?" greeted Eda.
Lilith was around the corner inches away from her sister. Eda waved behind her back for her to just get to class. No point for them to both get caught. Eda was tough enough for it anyway. Lilith snuck off to class worried about her younger sister.
"Ms. Clawthorne, why don't you tell me all the reasons you are late to class todayyy." grumbled Faust.
"I found a trapped animal, freed it and wasted a lot of time trying to find its mother." she explained.
Principal Faust turned. "Is that why an instructor found a student frozen at the edge of school grounds?"
"What makes you think that was me, have I ever frozen anything around here? I don't even know a freezing spell yet." she said calmly trying to play it off.
Faust unnaturally moved lowering his face to Eda's. "I know it was you, as long as you are part of this school you will be my first pick."
Eda smiles closely to his face. "You gonna put me on duty now, I assume." she says half laughing.
Faust turns to walk off. "Clean the halls while I think of a better punishment." he walks off to his office making a low disgusting hiss.
Eda opens the cleaning supply closest gathering what she needs to begin. She wets a rag and starts wiping down the trophy case remembering the stories behind them and the witches who received them. "Most bones, heh I remember this one. Odalia showed Darius a thing or two that day." Eda hops down from the ladder. "Alright done here." She looks up admiring her work when she spots her sister's two trophies, they read "Best 1st and 2nd year Grudgby Player." "Good job sis, no wonder you're up for Captain." Eda puts the rag on the cart and prepares the mop.
The scream bell rang and second class was about to start. Students flocked out of their classrooms heading quickly to the next, talking to the friends they saw on the way. Many of them said hi to Eda, asking about how she got into trouble this time. She was a real celebrity at Hexside. A few preppy girls walked by doing their usual talk about the people they looked down on. Eda leaned against the lockers waiting for everyone to get into class so she could start mopping.
"Ugh, she's such a tomb-boy," said the group leader.
"Yeah, she always gets in trouble for doing the dumbest things." responded her sidekick.
"Hey Eater, why don't you do something with that owl's nest of yours!" yelled the queen of this obnoxious bunch.
Eda turned and stuck her tongue out. "Shut up Myndla, you're not funny!" she screamed back as she stood leaning.
Myndla looked away and continued to class with her followers. "Her sister is a lot like her, terrible hair and dirty like a boy. I bet Eda's happy she at least doesn't have nerd genes like Lilith. Seriously how is she up for the Captain position? She'd probably break her glasses and throw the game." Myndla kept going making sure Eda could hear her until she turned the corner and walked into class.
Edalyn eyed her up to the moment she went into her classroom. She felt bad, Lily did get a lot of flack, good thing she wasn't a pushover, more students liked her than disliked so it wasn't all that bad. Eda wrung the mop of water and slammed it on the floor.
She had been thinking about what she could do to make those girls stop. And then in mid thought she had a smile grow ear to ear, a smile so devious anyone who saw it would know trouble was the only possible event to follow.
A couple classes later and Eda was finally finished with her duty. It was almost lunch hour, she put away the cleaning supplies and sat down on the supply room floor. She thought for a moment about being a well behaved student but quickly decided that that was not the most interesting route to take. She would never see what her potential was if she didn't actively test out new spells. Eda closed her eyes for a minute. The supply room doorknob turned, she opened her eyes and saw the door start to open.
"Edalyn?" Lilith said unsure as she opened the door seeing her sister on the floor. "I left Ms. Jenkinmeyers' class early so I could check up on you. What are you doing in here?"
"Faust put me on cleaning duty, I'm done now. I was just thinking too about what I should do to those nasty girls. Won't it be fun to get revenge on them?" Eda said with a chilling smile, her hands on her knees pulling them in.
"No, that would not be fun. Aren't you close to being expelled already, why push things further than they already are?" Lilith pleaded to her sister, attempting to talk sense. "Besides, I don't care what they think or say about us. You're the only one I care about here Edalyn." she said all of this with a solemn face, hoping her sister would heed her warning.
"Fausty won't expell me, I'm too much fun for him. Without me his job wouldn't be even remotely interesting. He needs someone like me, besides he's always talking about needing to understand true evil. Why not give him what he wants, right?" Eda was getting bored and hungry, she needed to eat something.
Lilith grasped Eda's hand and stood, pulling her along. "Let's get lunch, we'll be first for once so we won't be gyped on food like we usually are." She leads her out of the room. "Remember, none of this revenge business, okay."
"But I have to, those girls have gotten away with so much." Eda exclaimed.
"And so have you." Both of them pushed open the lunch room double doors. "Now let's get a big plate and relax. I know you're hungry."
After getting their lunch they grabbed seats and giggled while talking about various things, enjoying the big lunch and their sisterly company. Students started to arrive for lunch halfway through the sisters' meal. Myndla entered the cafeteria with the usual entourage behind her. She shot a look across the room and focused on Eda and Lilith before standing in line to get her lunch. Eda's eyes followed her across the room.
"You shouldn't let her get to you so much, she's nothing, might as well be an insect," said Lilith making Eda laugh with a full mouth. "Now if she wound up...oof" as Lilith was making her point her head was knocked forward.
"Sorry nerd, didn't even see ya!" Myndla spoke in a mocking tone. "Try wearing some lights next time." as she said that her group started to laugh.
Eda was visibly steaming, she was finally unable to keep control. Before she knew it her leg was upon the chair seat, her body stanced ready to leap onto Myndla...but she felt a hand grasp her thin ankle. It was Lilith giving her a stern look not to proceed. Eda grit her teeth as she sat back down watching Myndla and her crew walk away.
"Why are you stopping me?" Eda snapped.
Lilith leaned towards her sister. "Because I am going to help you." And with those words she wore her sister's large smile of pure trouble.
