Chapter 2

However, right before the Loughrans left. Johnny noticed his promise song and his friendship necklace were gone as he noticed his pockets were empty, making him go back and look around with Linda and Mike helping out. Mavis noticed the missing items on the ground, near some bushes. She dove down as a bat as she picked up the dropped possession and tapped Johnny's shoulder while his back was turned, he responded, "Can I help you, ma'am?"

Mavis giggled sheepishly, "I think these are yours."

"Oh. Thank you! I've been looking all over for these."

"You're welcome."

"Actually, you want to keep them?"

"You'd really let me have them?"

"Yes. Out of gratitude."

"Uh, ok. Thanks!"

"No problem."

She disappeared in the shadows as Johnny's parent asked, "Did you find your stuff?"

Johnny answered while in a bit of a trance, "Actually, I gave them to a girl."

Linda's eyes widened, "Really? You found a special someone?"

"Yep, it's safe to say that I did. She had the most beautiful look, a gothic one."

Mike wasn't so sure, "I dunno, Johnny. Goth girls are kinda shady."

Linda objected, "Come on, Mike. As long as it's true love. Anyway, off we go."

Back inside, Frank said as Mavis added the artifacts to her collection, "Are you crazy?"

"Crazy with love."

"Mavis, human and monster do not get along",Eunice said in a panic.

"Ugh. Look, we just gotta forget this whole thing ever happened. Your dad will never know. You won't tell him; I won't tell him. We will all stay in one piece."

Meanwhile, the Devil, along with bat minions Joe and Tim, were watching from his cave hideout as he laughed, "Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no. I can't stand it! It's too easy. The child is in love with a human. Her daddy will LOVE that. Dracula's headstrong, lovesick girl would make a charming addition to my little garden.

The next day, Wendy, Hank, Alex, and Pedro were waiting outside Mavis's room, the former asking, "Mavis, buddy, time to come out. You've been in there all morning."

Mavis emerged, singing to herself as Hank and Alex pondered, "What is with her lately?"

Pedro assumed, "Oh, she's got it bad."

That made Dracula ask, "She's got what bad? What has she got?"

"Uh, nothing."

Dracula wasn't buying it. He gave an intimidating glare to Mavis's friends, who tried to walk away. However, he wouldn't allow it as he started snarling like a wolf threatening to bite them. Wendy caved in and confessed, "Ok! You win! Mavis is... in love."

"Mavis? In love?"

Cut to Frank,Eunice,Wayne, Griffin, Murray, and Blobby pacing in the lobby. Frank sighed, "Ok, so far, so good. I don't think Drac knows, but it will not be easy keeping something like this a secret for long."

As Mavis picked petals off a flower from outside, she was all like, "He loves me. Hmmm, he loves me not... he loves me! I knew it!"

Eunice said to Mavis, "Stop talking crazy."

"I gotta see him again, tonight! I remeber what he looks like, and someone out there knows where he lives."

Murray panicked, "Mavis, please. Will you get your head out of the clouds and back on your body where it belongs?"

"I'll fly over to him. Then Wendy will wobble and jiggle around to get his attention, and then with-"

Griffin then interrupted with, "In HERE is your home! Mavis, listen to us. The human world is a mess. Life in the hotel is better than anything they got out there."

Then all of Dracula's pals and Eunice sung:

The grass here is always greener

Not in someone else's lake

You dream about going out there

But that is a big mistake

Just look at the hotel housing you

Right here on the first floor

Such wonderful things surround you

What more are you looking for?

They discover that Mavis has left with her buddies, making Frank ask, "Mavis? Mavis? Oh, somebody's got to nail that girl's wings to the floor."

Then the bellhop stopped them, "Blobby! Eunice ! Frank! Griffin! Murray! Wayne! I been looking all over for you four. I got an urgent message from Dracula."

Wayne was shocked, "Dracula?"

"He wants to see you all right away, something about Mavis."

Murray whimpered, "He knows."

Dracula was looking at Mavis's flower, "Let's see, now. Oh, who could the lucky beast be? Come in, everyone."

Frank murmured to himself, "We mustn't overreact. We must remain calm."

Six octaves higher than his normal voice, Wayne said, "Yes, Drac."

Drac rambled, "I'm concerned about Mavis. Have any of you noticed she's been acting peculiar lately?"

Griffin stammered, "Peculiar?"

"You know, moaning about, daydreaming, and singing to herself. You haven't noticed, hmm?"

Murray swallowed, "Oh, well, we..."

"Guys,Eunice?"

Blobby made a sound, "Hmmm?"

"I know you all been keeping something from me."

That made Frank worry, "Keeping... something?"

"About Mavis."

"Mavis?"

"In love?"

"Ok. You got us, we tried to stop her, sir. She wouldn't listen. We told her to stay away from humans, they are bad, they are trouble, they-"

The "H" word startled Dracula, who gasped, "Humans? What about humans?!"

"Humans? Ho ho ho ho... who said anything about humans?"

Fade to Mavis, Wendy, Hank, Alex, and Pedro entering Mavis's room, the vampire friend wondering with her eyes covered by the teenage mummy, "Why can't you guys tell me what this is all about?"

Wendy assured her, "You'll see. It's a surprise."

When Mavis's eyes were uncovered, she saw a ten-foot ice sculpture of Jonathan, made by her pals while she was away. She liked it because of how well it was made, "Oh, for me? You guys are the best! It looks just like him. It even has his eyes. Why, Johnny, run away with you? This is all so... so sudden..."

"Ahem."

Turning around, Mavis was shocked to see a very stern Dracula, "Dad!"

Dracula explained, but not before locking all of Mavis's friends outside of the room full of human artifacts, "I consider myself a reasonable man. I set certain rules, and I expect those rules to be obeyed."

"But dad!"

"Is it true you met a human? Contact between the humans and monsters is strictly forbidden. Mavis, you know that. Everyone knows that."

"He just wanted true love. You don't even know him."

"Know him?! I don't have to know him! They're all the same. Spineless, savage, torch-and-pitchfork-wielding, always on the hunt for monsters, incapable of any feeling!"

"Daddy, I love him!"

"No... have you lost your senses completely?! He's a human, you're a vampire!"

"I don't care."

"So help me, Mavis. I am going to get through to you, AND IF THIS IS THE ONLY WAY, SO BE IT!"

He started by ripping the friendship bracelet and stomping on promise ring, making Mavis horrified, "NO, PLEASE! DAD!"

Carrying the statue, Dracula pushed Mavis aside before throwing it high in the air and having it crash down on a whole wall full of human stuff, wrecking them beyond repair as Mavis screamed, "Daddy, stop! Daddy, nooo!"

Devastated by her father's harshness, Mavis began crying as Dracula left, briefly looking ashamed before heading off.

Once Drac was gone and the door was unlocked, Wendy, Hank, Alex ,and Pedro looked at Mavis, who was still crying. The latter tried to comfort her, "Mavis, we-"

"Just go away."

Seeing that their friend wasn't in the mood, they left.
