Chapter 4
Once Mavis has been transformed into a human, they all went to the human world.
Johnny leans his back on his seaside house is in sight and plays the flute. max is beside him.
Johnny : That voice. I can't get it out of my head. I've looked everywhere, Max - where could she be?
In a cove further along the forest line , Mavis lays on a tree. Eunice, Frank,Wayne,Murray and Griffin pant, exhausted. Mavis pushes her hair out of her face and sits up. She sees her legs and is amazed. She lifts her foot in the air and wiggles her toes and giggled .
Tom : Well, look at what the bat dragged in!
Tom lands on her leg.
Tom : Look at ya! Look at ya! There's something different. Don't tell me - I got it. It's your hairdo, right?
Mavis : No
Tom: You've been using the bus, right? No? No huh, well let me see. New... shoes ? No new shoes .
Mavis shakes the leg Tom is perched on to give him a clue.
Tom : I gotta admit I can't put my foot on it right now, but if I just stand here long enough I know that I'll -
Frank : (shouting) She's human! She traded her soul to the devil and turned into a human . Come on , man...
Tom : I knew that.
Eunice : Mavis has been turned into a human. She's gotta make the human fall in love with her, and he's gotta ki- he's gotta kiss her.
Mavis's legs wobble as she tries to stand up.
Eunice : And she's only got three nights.
Mavis falls over, and bumps into her aunt and uncles .
Wayne : Just look at her. She's a human . A human girl ! My nerves are shot. This is a catastrophe! What would her father say? I'll tell you what her father'd say. (grabbing Griffin's face) He'd say he's gonna kill himself a wolf, that's what her father'd say! (marching away) I'm gonna march me-self straight home right now and tell him just like I shoulda done de minute-
Mavis put hands on their shoulders and told them no. He wags his claw at her as she shakes her head.
Murray : And don't you shake your head at us , young lady. Maybe there's still time. If we could get that devil to give you back your soul , you could go home with all the normal monsters , and just be... just be... just be miserable for the rest of your life.
All right, all right. I'll try to help you find that human.
Mavis smiles and kisses Murray's head. She cheered.
Murray : Boy. What a soft-shell I'm turning out to be.
Tom and Eunice walked beside the wreckage.
Eunice : Now, Mavis, I'm tellin' ya, if you wanna be a human the first thing you gotta do is dress like one. Now lemme see.
Eunice picks up a blue Hawaiian dress.
Johnny walks along the green with Max. He sniffs and raises his brow. He barks and hops around excitedly. He runs down the beach.
Johnny : Max? Huh... what, Max!
Johnny follows Max. Tom whistles.
Eunice : Ya look great dear. Ya look - sensational.
Mavis wears the sail tied with ropes. She's alarmed by Max's barking. The monster hid back into the forest . Mavis climbs onto the rock and Max licks her face.
Johnny : Max... Max - Quiet Max!
Max tugs at Eric's leg.
Johnny : What's gotten into you fella? (seeing Ariel) Oh... Oh, I see. Are you O.K., miss? I'm sorry if this knucklehead scared you. He's harmless, really -
Johnny gazes at her face and points at her.
Johnny : You... seem very familiar... to me. Have we met?
Mavis nods.
Mavis : We have met?
Max comes between them and barks.
Johnny : I knew it! (grabbing Mavis's hands) You're the one - the one I've been looking for! What's your name?
Mavis opens her mouth to reply "Mavis" and something comes out. She touches her throat, proud.
Johnny : Mavis
Johnny : You can speak?
Mavis shakes her head.
Johnny : Oh, oh. Then you could be the one .
Mavis: this is my aunt Eunice and my uncles Frank,Murray,Wayne,Griffin
Johnny : Hello, is this to meet you all.
Mavis falls into his arms. Johnny holds her, helping her stand.
Johnny : Whoa, whoa, careful - careful - easy. Gee, you must have really been through something. Don't worry, I'll help you guys . Come on... Come on, you'll be okay.
Mavis: Thanks
Eunice: that's very kind of you, Johnny
Johnny leads her and her aunt and uncles .
