Chapter 7

The zombie walks in hurriedly into the bedroom, where Dracula swims back and forth with his hands behind his back.

Dracula : Any sign of them?

ZOMBIE: No, Sir. We've searched everywhere. We've found no trace of your daughter - or your friends .

Dracula : Well, keep looking. Leave no room unturned, no bed unexplored. Let no one in this hotel sleep until she's safe at home.

Zombie : Yes sir.

The Zombies saluted and leaves. Dracula sits in his coffin .

Dracula : Oh, what have I done? What have I done?

The sun rises. Lily and Mike and Linda wave goodbye to Johnny and Mavis and her aunt and uncles as they ride away in horse-drawn buggeys. They take a road leading to town and Mavis points excitedly. Mavis leans over the side of the buggey to watch the ground and the horse's feet clopping.

As they pass over a canal, Wayne ran through the streets . Frank peers out over the buggey.

Wayne : Has he kissed her yet?

Frank : Not yet.

Wayne : Ohh

In the bustling town square, Mavis watches a man push a cart of clucking chickens. Two puppets perform on a small stage. Mavis pulls one off, revealing the puppeteer's hand. She pulls Johnny's hand to the dance area. He twirls her and lifts her into the air.

Tom jumps overhead as Wayne runs in the town.

Tom: Yo, Eunice ! Any kissing?

Eunice : No, not yet.

Tom: Hmm. Well they - they better get crackin'.

In the buggey, Johnny and Mavis ride out of town. Mavis wears a hat and holds bread, a bouquet of flowers, and a pair of boots. Johnny offers Mavis the reins. She eagerly snaps them and the buggey races forward. Johnny gapes, seeing a wide gulley ahead. Mavis speeds and they soar across to the other side. Johnny peeks up from the floor of the buggey. As they rise off into the countryside, Johnny relaxes, folding his hands behind his head.

Johnny rows himself and Mavis out on the lagoon.

EUNICE : Move over - move your furry arm. I can't see a thing.

Tom : Nothing is happening... Only one day left, and that boy ain't puckered up once. O.K. All right, this calls for a little vocal romantic stimulation. Stand back.

Tom lands on a branch and signs horribly.

Johnny : Wow. Somebody should find that poor kid and put it out of its misery.

Mavis grimaces as Scuttle signals "A OK." Frank covers his ears.

Mavis: This isn't working.

Frank : Jeez, man, We're surrounded by amateurs!

Eunice: Honey, Tom's singing is not gonna help we need to set the right mood

He walked over to pick up his baton.

Frank : You want something done, you've got to do it yourself. First, we got to create the mood.

Wolves appear and bears turn the trees over .

Frank : Percussion...

The wolves howled as the bear's banged the trees as if they were drums.

Frank : Strings...

Frank conducts crickets, who rub their legs together.

Eunice : Winds...

The wind blows through the reeds.

Eunice : Words.

There you see her

Sitting there across the way

She don't got a lot to say

But there's something about her

And you don't know why

But you're dying to try

You wanna kiss the girl

Frank holds a cat tail as if it was a microphone and sings a love ballad, telling Johnny to kiss Mavis . He sings in Johnny's ear

Johnny : (turning to look back) Did you hear something?

Mavis: No

Yes, you want her

Look at her, you know you do

Possible she wants you too

There is one way to ask her

It don't take a word

Not a single word

Go on and kiss the girl

Sing with me now

Sha-la-la-la-la-la

My oh my

Look like the boy too shy

Ain't gonna kiss the girl

Sha-la-la-la-la-la

Ain't that sad?

Ain't it a shame?

Too bad, he gonna miss the girl

Frank and the forest creatures continue singing, disappointed that Johnny hasn't kissed Mavis.

Johnny : You know, I feel really bad not knowing your name. Heh - maybe I could guess. Is it, err Mildred?

Mavis: No

Johnny : O.K., no. How 'bout - Diana?

Mavis: No

Johnny : Rachel?

Frank : (whispering) Mavis. Her name is Mavis.

Frank looks back, confused.

Johnny : Mavis?

Mavis: Yes.

Johnny : Mavis?

Mavis : Yes while she takes his hand.

Johnny : Well, that's kinda pretty. O.K. - Mavis…

Frank and the guys and the lagoon creatures continue serenading them as they float along. Two pelicans pull back the leaves of a willow tree as Johnny and Mavis pass through.

Now's your moment (ya, ya, ya)

Floating in a blue lagoon (ya, ya, ya)

Boy, you better do it soon

No time will be better (ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya)

She don't say a word

And she won't say a word

Until you kiss the girl

Fish circle under the boat, turning it slowly. Fireflies surround the boat. As Tom begins to sing, flamingos shut him up. Wolves , including Wayne, surround the boat and spurt water from their lips, creating a fountain effect. The animals whisper to kiss Mavis.

Sha-la-la-la-la-la

Don't be scared (sha-la, sha-la-la ya, ya, ya)

You got the mood prepared (woah, woah)

Go on and kiss the girl

Sha-la-la-la-la-la

Don't stop now (sha-la, sha-la-la ya, ya, ya)

Don't try to hide it how

You want to kiss the girl (woah, woah)

Sha-la-la-la-la-la

Float along (sha-la, sha-la-la)

Johnny leans in and gazes into her eyes. Mavis closes her eyes and puckers her lips in anticipation. Johnny closes his eyes as well and their lips nearly touch before they are knocked off the rowboat, which flips.

And listen to the song

The song say kiss the girl (woah, woah)

Sha-la-la-la-la-la

The music play (ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya)

Do what the music say

You got to kiss the girl

You've got to kiss the girl

Oh, don't you wanna kiss the girl

You've gotta kiss the girl

Go on and kiss the girl

Frank hits his head and Tom looks mortified.

Johnny : Whoa, hang on - I've gotcha.

The forest creatures skitter away as Joe and Tim rise and slap their hands in the style of a high-five and snicker.
