Chapter 8

The devil watches Mavis and Johnny through a crystal ball .

The devil : Nice work, boys. That was a close one. Too close. The little tramp! Oh, she's better than I thought. At this rate, he'll be kissing her by sunset for sure.

Kitty runs to her shelf of ingredients and smashes them aside, picking up some ingredients.

Kitty : Well, it's time Kitty took matters into her own hands!

Kitty smashes ingredients into the cauldron, sending puffs of smoke in the air.

Kitty : Dracula's daughter will be mine - and then I'll make him writhe. I'll see him wriggle like a worm on a hook!

Laughing, she clutches her shell necklace. A golden emanates from behind her. Kitty transforms into a vampire and her soul becomes Mavis's.

The moon shines bright. On a terrace, Johnny plays the melody of "Part of Your World (Reprise)" on his flute. He gazes out to sea, contemplating as Mike approaches.

Mike : (putting an arm around Johnny ) Johnny , if I may say, far better than any dream girl, is one of flesh and blood, one warm and caring, and right before your eyes.

Johnny glances up at a window where Mavis stands in her nightgown, combing her hair with a fork. Johnny smiles towards her. He looks sadly at his flute. Gazing firmly at it, he stakes a step back and throws it out into the water. He looks towards Mavis's window and begins to stride towards it, but stops.

He saw Mavis's soul "Ahhh." He leans over the edge of the terrace to see a woman walking along the shore, the devil in disguise. Johnny strains to see her clearly. The bat necklace hangs around her neck, glowing brightly. An eerie golden mist winds through the air towards Johnny . It fills his eyes enchanting him

Tom jumps into the castle, into Mavis's window.

Tom: Mavis ! Mavis , wake up! Wake up! I just heard the news. Congratulations, kiddo, we did it!

Tom shakes Mavis's hand as she sits up, still half-asleep. Frank yawns and tries to go back to sleep.

Griffin : What is this guy babbling about?

Tom : Right - as if you two didn't know, uh? The whole town's buzzin' about the human gettin' himself hitched this afternoon! You know, he's getting married!

Tom picks up Eunice and rubs his head.

Tom: You silly sidewalker! (to Mavis) I just wanted to wish you luck. I'll catch you later, I wouldn't miss it!

Tom flies out the window. Mavis's eyes grow wide. Leaping out of bed, she scoops up her aunt and uncles , twirls them around and gives them a kiss on the head. She fluffs her hair and rushes out the room and down the stairs. The gang gets out of bed and follows her

Linda : Well, uh - err, Johnny. I-it appears that I was mistaken.

Mavis stops, flabbergasted. She hides behind a beam and listens on.

Mike : This mystery maiden of

yours does - in fact exist. And - and she is lovely. (holding Kitty's hand) Congratulations, my dear.

Johnny : We wish to be married as soon as possible.

Mike : Oh, yes - of course, son, but, er - but these things do take time, you know...

Johnny : This afternoon, Dad. The wedding ship departs at sunset.

Mike : Oh, oh - very well, son - as you wish.

Mavis: Why

Mavis is distraught and runs off crying. Kitty touches her necklace and laughs as Johnny stands stiffly, under a trance.

The wedding boat departs from the dock. Mavis stands at the docks watching. She sinks to the ground, burying her head and cries. Her aunt and uncles looks up at her and sadly bows his head. A tear rolls down her cheek and falls in the water. Nearby Murray cries too.

Over the ship, Tom swings down over the sky.

"Poor Unfortunate Souls (Reprise)"

What a lovely little bride I'll make, My dear, I'll look divine! Things are working out according to my ultimate design! Soon I'll have that little vampire , and the hotel will be mine!

Tom peeks through a porthole to see Kitty singing to herself. She throws a hairpin at the Angel figure in her mirror. He gulps, realizing the bride is not steps onto her vanity, crushing a bottle. She twirls around and pulls the mirror towards her. Tom sees her reflection is that of Kitty.

Tom : The devil ! Oh no... She's- I gotta...

In a rush to leave, he bumps his head on the porthole. He flies back to Mavis.

Tom: Mavis ! Mavis!

Mavis . I was flying, I wa - of course I was flying - An' - I s- I saw that the watch - the devil was watchin' a mirror, and she was singin' with a stolen set o' pipes!

Tom picks up Wayne and clanks him against the ground repeatedly.

This m: (yelling) Do you hear what I'm tellin' you? The human is marrying the devil in disguise!

Mavis drops her jaw.

Frank : (rubbing his head) Are you sure about this?

Tom : Have I ever been wrong? I mean when it's important!

Eunice : What are we gonna do!?

Mavis looks to the setting sun and hears Kitty's voice in her head.

Kitty : Before the sun sets on the third day...

Mavis leaps into the water and splashes around helplessly. Frank cuts free some barrels for Mavis to hang onto.

Frank : Mavis , grab on to that. Eunice , get her to that boat as fast as your arms can carry you!

Eunice : I'll try.

Eunice loops herself onto the rope and pulls Mavis along to the boat.

Wayne,Murray,Griffin : We've gotta get to Dracula . He must know about this.

Tom: What - What about me? What about me?

Griffin : You - find a way to stall that wedding!

Tom : Stall the wedding. Wh- what am I - what - that's it!

Tom squawks and takes off for the lagoon, alerting the other birds. Bluebirds and flamingos follow him. Starfish, lobsters, , dolphins, and sea lions look up. The animals follow Tom.

Tom : Move it, let's go, we got an emergency here!

Kitty and Johnny walk down the aisle. Max snarls at her as she passes by and she kicks him. A short bishop stands at the end of the aisle.

BISHOP: Dearly beloved . . .

CUT TO: OCEAN

Eunice pulls Mavis.

Eunice : Don't worry Mavis . ugh - we - we're gonna make it. We're almost there.

BISHOP: Yes, um, do you Johnny, take Kitty , to be your lawfully wedded wife, for as long as you both shall live?

Kitty looks out to the sun, noticing it's almost set.

Tom : I do.

Tom sqwauks.

BISHOP: Eh, and do you...

A squadron of bluebirds swoop down from the sky, led by Tom, aimed directly towards Kitty . She ducks. They circle around and fly under her dress. Max barks. Guests are alarmed as sea lions get on deck. Pelicans fly overhead and dump beaks full of water on Kitty. A lobster pinches her nose and starfish smother her.

BISHOP: (oblivious to the commotion) then by the power inves-

Kitty: Get away from me you slimy little-

A sea lion tosses her in the air on his nose.

Mavis and Eunice arrives and climbs up the ship.

The sea lions toss Kitty into the wedding cake. She pops out, furious, and three dolphins squirt water in her face. Tom squawks in her face.

Kitty: Oh, why you little-

Kitty wrings Tom's neck. Max breaks free from his leash. Max bites Kitty in the rear and Scuttle pulls at Kitty's necklace, which goes flying through the air.

The necklace breaks and Mavis's soul is restored. The spell on Johnny is broken and he grabs his head.

Johnny : Mavis ?

Mavis : Johnny .

Max barks happily at her.

Johnny : You - you have a good soul . You're the one.

Johnny runs to her and grasps her hands.

Kitty : (now in Ursula's own voice) Johnny , get away from her!

Kitty covers her mouth.

J: It - it was you all the time.

Mavis : Oh, Johnny , I - I wanted to tell you.

Kitty : Johnny,no!

The sun sets as they are about to kiss and her legs turn back into a vampire.

Kitty: (cackling) You're too late! You're too late!

Kitty rips out of her dress and turns back into The devil . The crowd gasps in shock.

Kitty : So long, loverboy.

She slithers across the deck, grabs Mavis, and runs over the edge of the forest .

Johnny : Mavis !

Kitty : Poor little princess - it's not you I'm after. I've a much bigger problem to -

Dracula : Kitty, stop!

Dracula points his glowing keys at Kitty.

Kitty : Why, Dracula ! Ha ha ha - How are you?

Dracula : Let her go.

Kitty : Not a chance, Drac! She's mine now. We made a deal.

Kitty shows Triton the glowing scroll as Tim and Joe restrain Mavis.

Mavis : Daddy, I'm sorry! I - I - I didn't mean to. I didn't know -

Dracula zaps a beam at Kitty and the contract, which remain unharmed.

Kitty : You see? The contract's legal, binding and completely unbreakable - even for you. Of course, I always was a girl with an eye for a bargain. The daughter of the great vampire is a very precious commodity.

The contract is released by Kitty and it's golden light swirls around Mavis.

Kitty : But - I might be willing to make an exchange for someone even better...

Kitty pointed her arm at Dracula's hotel .

Johnny rows a small boat out to sea.

Mike : son ! What are you doing?

Mike : dad, I lost her once. I'm not going to lose her again.

Mavis becomes increasingly small and shriveled to resemble the souls in the devil's garden. She holds out the contract/

Kitty : Now! Do we have a deal?

Dracula looks away and signs over Mavis's signature using his pen.

Kitty : Ha! It's done then.

The magical golden current holding Mavis releases her and takes over Dracula, turning him into one of Kitty's souls.

Mavis : No... Oh, no!

Kitty cackles.

Johnny stands in his rowboat, harpoon in hand.

Only Dracula's cape and keys reman.

Murray : Oh, pal ...

Mavis : Daddy?

Kitty : At last

Kitty picks up the keys and puts them on.

Mavis : No

Kitty : It's mine.

She holds the keys and cackles to herself. Mavis angrily springs at her.

Mavis : You - You monster!

Kitty throws Mavis down and points the trident at her.

Kitty : Don't fool with me you little brat! Contract or no- Ahh!

Johnny's harpoon grazes Kitty's arm. He watches under the bushes .

Kitty : Why you little troll!

Mavis : Johnny ! Johnny look out!

Kitty : (to Tim and Joe ) After him!

Tim and Joe chase Johnny as he ran back to the woods . He reaches his bike , but they pull him back into the woods .

Eunice : Come on!

Frank and Wayne attack. Eunice pinches one cronies tail while Frank flaps his hand in the other's face.

Kitty : Say goodbye to your sweetheart.

Kitty aims the two arrows at Johnny , but Mavis transforms into a bat and yanks her hair, causing the beam of lightning to hit Tim and Joe, who burn to crisps.

Kitty : Babies! My poor, little poopsies!

Kitty holds their remains and her eyes go wild. Seeing Mavis escaping, Kitty begins drinking a growing potion to grow big. Frank and Eunice cower.

Mavis : Johnny , you've got to get away from here.

Johnny : No, I won't leave you.

A giant Kitty comes between Johnny an Mavis as a gigantic Kitty rises from the water, laughing manically.

Johnny and Mavis jump into the water and clutch each other, looking up to see Kitty towering over them.

Kitty: You pitiful, insignificant, fool!

Johnny : (pointing) Look out!

One of Kitty's arms crashes down into the ground .

Kitty : Now I am the ruler of all the hotel ! The ground obey my every whim!

Kitty raises the keys and swirls it, creating a storm with lightning. A breeze sweeps Johnny away.

Mavis : Johnny !

Kitty : The hotel and all its spoils bow to my power!

On the treehouse , Johnny dashes to the steering wheel and sails towards Kitty.

Kitty : (laughing wickedly) So much for true love!

As Kitty is about to bring her arrow down on Mavis, Johnny steers the ship into her. She is impaled by the sharp bow. Her eyes flash and her body is filled with lightning as the ship goes down on top of her. Her armawrithe as the ship sinks into the sea.

Johnny flys off the ship as Frank and Eunice watch. He collapses on the shore. Black smoke billows from the woods

The keys sinks down along

The shriveled souls trapped in the devil's lair are set free and swim out of the lair. The keys falls back to Dracula, who transforms back into himself.

Johnny lies on the beach and Mavis gazes from a distance seated on a rock. Dracula and Frank look on.

Dracula : She really does love him, doesn't she, guys ?

Guys nods.

Frank : Well, it's like I always say, pal . Children got to be free to lead their own lives.

Dracula : You - always say that? (sighs) Then I guess there's just one problem left.

Eunice : And what's that, Drac?

Dracula : How much I'm going to miss her.

Johnny wakes up and sees Mavis rising from the forest, wearing a shimmering black and red gown. She walks towards him, arms open wide, on legs.

Johnny runs to her and twirls her around. Their lips meet in a kiss, which fades into their wedding day. Max jumps up between them and licks them.

Guests on the ship cheer. Lily cries and uses Mike's handkerchief as a napkin. In the ocean, merpeople gather around the ship and wave. Dracula and Mavis's vampire sisters smile and wave. Tom brings Griffin up to the side of the ship. Tom flaps away and winks. Mavis kisses him and pats Tom's head.

On the wedding cake, Frank and Eunice and their kids stood against the two cake toppers of Mavis and Johnny . They hugs them, smiling tearfully. Suddenly, he sees Louis raising a knife over him. He jumps off and the chef cuts the cake in half. He scampers down the walkway as Louis throws a knife at him and chases him around the deck. Frank used a pair of scissors to snips a rope with his hand and a wooden beam swings into Louis' face. His teeth fall out and he collapses. Frank jumps to the dock and kisses his wife between Wayne and Murray.

Frank : Yes, (bowing) Thank you, thank you.

On the ship, Mavis looks over the railing at her father. A fountain of air raises him up and they hug.

Dracula : I love you Daddy.

"Happy Ending"

In the hotel , Drac sweeps his keys in the air, forming a sparkling rainbow in the sky. The merpeople wave as the ship sails off and they dive below the water. Mavis and Johnny kisses each other.
