She had been hunting these things for a long time now, ever since her family were slaughtered; her parents had been ordinary people, and then one night their home was violated by one of these-these-these abominations of nature. My brother and I had been watching TV and playing a game at the same time at the time of the attack, which started when there was a knock on the door.

My mother opened the door, revealing a couple who were covered in blood; the man was leaning against the woman, blood gushing out of a wound at the base of the neck. My mother and father instantly knew they had just survived a vicious ghoul attack.

My dad went to contact the CCG - Commission of Counter Ghoul to report the incident at once; my dad barely managed to lay a finger on the telephone when he was suddenly attacked by the man, who was perfectly fine. My mother was then set upon by the female ghoul, who told us all she and her partner were hungry, so desperately starving, and indeed she was salivating.

My mother screamed in agony and terror as she was ripped apart by the superhuman strength of the ghoul who was attacking her while my father was lying in a pile of blood, flesh, and bone, all torn apart and then shoved back together again, barely conscious while the ghoul who'd done the deed fed on him. My mother screamed at us to run, to get away, to be safe. I made it out of the door. My brother didn't. I didn't see what happened, but judging from the scream of surprise and my mother's scream, I'd turned my back and rushed out of the door to get to one of our neighbours, and call the CCG and get them around here, and the ghoul feasting on either one of our parents reacted.

The next thing I know I'm playing tug of war with my brother, with me holding onto his arms while trying to pull him out, and the ghoul is pulling his legs. No contest. My brother screamed as the ghoul ripped his spine out, forcing me to let go. I will never get those memories out of my mind, nor do I want to.

My neighbours weren't much help. But I did get through to the CCG. They came around quickly and they got to the ghouls and killed one quickly in a gory way, but the second ghoul nearly escaped or would have done if someone hadn't shot at it.

The murder of my family changed me forever. I had always been sure I would become some kind of…person, like a shelf stacker in a store, a librarian, or a shop assistant. My ambitions were higher, like joining to become a nurse or something like that.

But no longer after that night.

I found my calling.

When I joined the CCG after finishing my time at school which was quite rough although my grandma looked after me after my family's deaths and then attended college, I fought long and hard to become part of the team dedicated to wiping out the ghouls and cleaning up the filth they were from the face of our planet. Every day I sign in, I look at a photograph of my parents and my brother and myself, thinking of what could have been…and I take out the resulting rage against the ghouls. They took away my parents, my brother. They took away the future I would have had, what I could have had. And they took away my brother's future, and what he could have had. My brother was a musician, with a brilliant talent; I was never musically inclined, but my brother had the gift of playing piano and violin, and he could sing.

But to a ghoul, he was nothing more than a meal.

And I will not stop until I have slaughtered hundreds of them. Don't think I'm one of those people who will spend the rest of their natural lives hunting those responsible for my pain down; I know its impossible, and I want to have a family of my own, a family I will protect and keep safe so what happened to my parents will never happen again.

One of my first lessons will be; never to open the door to strangers, especially at night.

My second lesson will be; always have a weapon nearby.
