Paula POV:
My phone is on my coffee table, silent like it usually is. It's 2150 on a Friday night, and I'm in my apartment, eating Chinese takeout, worrying about Anthony 'Tony' DiNozzo Junior, an NCIS agent on the Major Crime Response Team.
His partner, friend and surrogate sister, Caitlin 'Kate' Todd was murdered by Ari Hasswari a month ago and he witnessed it, he witnessed his sister's death two weeks after he got the Plague and almost died. He almost died, survived, only to witness his sister die right in front of him.
My phone rings on my coffee table, causing me to jump and look at my phone. I pick it up and answer it without checking the caller ID.
Phone call.
Me: Hello?
Tony: Paula?
Me: Tony, you okay?
Tony: I need you to come pick me up. He took my car keys.
Me: Where are you? Who took your keys? Why have they taken your keys? What happened?
Tony: I'm at the bar, the bartender took my keys away from me and told me to call someone to pick me up.
Me (sighing): All right, stay there, I'm on my way.
Tony: Thank you, Paula.
Me: Don't mention it, just stay there.
Phone call.
Hanging up with my favourite Senior Field Agent, I change out of my pjs into jeans, a sweater, boots and a leather jacket, grabbing my phone, keys, wallet and purse before leaving my apartment, getting in my car and driving to the bar where Tony is waiting for. Half of my mind is screaming at me to call Gibbs and tell him about Tony but I know he won't really talk to Tony about Kate, seeing as he's hurting just as much as Tony is, besides Tony called me for a reason. And I have a feeling that reason is to talk to me about his sister.
And talk he shall.
When I enter the bar that's popular with Federal Agents, Tony is sitting talking to the bartender who in return is nodding his head. I walk up to him, putting my hand on his back to get his attention. Tony turns his head and smiles his 100 megawatt smile at me and I can tell it's a fake one because it doesn't reach his eyes.
"Paula, you came." He says in a surprised tone, almost as if he thought I wasn't coming, stumbling to his feet, tucking his wallet and phone into his jacket pockets and giving the bartender a frown as the bartender hands me the keys to Tony's Mustang. I pocket his keys and take his arm, and lead him to my car, helping into the passenger seat, the ride back to my apartment is silent.
I lead Tony into my apartment and watch as he sits on the couch, burying his head in his hands, his shoulders shaking slightly. I take off my jacket and shoes and kneel down in front of him, pulling his hands away from his face, holding them in my own.
My blue eyes meet his tearful green ones.
"She's gone, Paula." Tony says quietly. I sigh, knowing exactly who 'she' is.
Kate.
"I didn't get to thank her for staying with me when I had the Plague or tell her goodbye. I didn't save her." Tears that he's repressed for the better part of a month start crawling down his handsome face.
"She was there for me when I got the Plague, she stayed with me even though she could get sick. She didn't care, she stayed until she could and even when she couldn't be in the room with me anymore, she was still with me, watching over me, when she didn't have, she wanted to so I wasn't battling this alone, but now she's gone and I'm alone." He says, voice thick with tears, my heart breaks for the strong NCIS agent in front of me. I let go of one of his hands and wipe a few tears off his cheeks.
"She knew Tony, she knew how thankful you were to her for staying even if you didn't tell her, she knew and she's so proud of you for surviving it. As for being alone, you're never alone. You've got Gibbs, McGee, Abby, Ducky, Palmer, Ziva and you've got me. You've got me because I'm not going anywhere. I'm not going anywhere." I whisper to him, looking into his green eyes.
Tony POV:
"I'm not going anywhere." Paula whispers to me, one hand cradling my cheek as she looks into my eyes. Her blue eyes are the colour of the ocean. I sigh.
"That's what Kate said too, and look at what happened to her." I snarl at my friend who drops her hand from my cheek and frowns at me.
"Tony, I'm not going anywhere." Paula says sternly, trying to make me believe that she won't be going anywhere. I sigh before looking into her eyes, searching for the truth to what she's saying, and I find it.
Before I can comprehend what I'm doing, I kiss Paula, smiling when she kisses me back. We pull away when I need to breathe. Paula smiles as she hugs me, burying her head in the crook of my neck.
Paula pulls away from me and smiles at me. "Come on, DiNozzo, it's late, you need some sleep." Paula orders me as she stands up, taking my hand and dragging me to her bedroom.
Paula's bedroom is large with a king sized bed in the middle of the room with purple sheets and pillows, her dresser is to the side of her room, underneath her window. Her en-suite bathroom is next to her bed.
I watch as Paula walks into her en-suite bathroom and I slip off my shoes and lie down on her bed, my eyes closing against their will and before I know it, I'm falling asleep with Paula in my arms.
I'm glad she came to me when I called her.
