DP Season 4 Episode 6
Inviso-Bill Returns: Some Nicknames You Can't Outrun
Chapter 1
Wednesday, August 2
Danny floated invisibly over Amity Park Park, watching the parks and rec crew pull in the stage for this weekend. Down below he could make out Sam standing with the head of Amity Park's parks and rec, making sure the final parts of her first weekend were going according to plan. He smiled down at her, proud of everything she had been able to do for greater ghost good. Not all ghosts deserved the treatment they were given now that more people were aware ghosts even existed, and he knew Sam wasn't going to make a change in a year with this tour, but he hoped she would start some snow balls rolling.
A scream and the sound of tires screeching caught his attention, his warning before his ghost sense left him. He turned towards the cold, dropping the invisibility, and quickly found the cause. He bolted towards three very familiar ghost vultures as they pecked at a car that had careened off the street and into a light pole. Inside the wreck of the car was a woman covering her head towards her steering wheel as the ghosts worked their way at peeling off the car's roof.
"Beak breath!" Danny called out, charging up an ecto blast in his hands as he flew closer. The three birds looked up, panic on their face at seeing Danny Phantom flying towards them. "I thought I told you I never wanted to see you in my town again!" Danny reminded, firing off three disk shaped blasts.
Each blast hit its target, knocking the three birds off of the car and into the air beside it.
"'Ey! Ve vere just followin' de girl!" the vulture with an Adam's apple called out as his friends grouped closer to him.
"Yeah! Ve didn't realize ve'd gotten back 'ere!" the vulture wearing sunglasses claimed.
"You had to crash her car?" Danny asked, reaching towards his pocket for his Fenton Thermos. He pulled it out and held it so they could see it, not surprised to see the three shocked at its appearance.
"Ve're going, ve're going!" the third cried out, the first to turn tail and fly away.
"And don't come back!" Danny ordered, watching the two remaining turn around and follow the first. He gave them a moment, making sure they weren't going to look back, before looking down at the wreck below him. Paramedics still hadn't shown up, so he quickly dived down and phased through the roof to grab hold of the girl in the driver's seat. He spread through her the intangibility and pulled her through her seat belt, the air bag, and what was left of the front of her car before dropping to his feet. "Are you okay, miss?" Danny asked, keeping up his superhero persona.
He took in the girl in his arms, guessing she was only a few years older than himself. Her black hair fell over her face as she looked up at who held her. Her purple eyes feel on Danny's, getting his face to run hot at her dark makeup and bat wing earrings.
"Hi," the girl said.
"Wow you're cute," Danny said only for his eyes to go wide. He quickly back peddled in his mind as he tried, "I didn't mean to say that, I mean- Hi, I'm Danny Phantom. Are you okay? You were in a car crash."
Danny helped the girl to her feet, taking in her black corset that led down to tight black pants and heeled boots. She looked over her shoulder to see what remained of her car only to cry out, "No, my baby!"
"You had a baby!?" Danny exclaimed, jumping up to the air to fly into the wreck and pull the child out.
"No," the girl quickly said, turning back to Danny as she got him to stop where he floated. "My car's my baby. Sorry. Thank you for recuing me. Name's Ester. What happened?"
"Looks like the ghosts popped your tire," Danny admitted, noticing the front driver side tire looked like it might have gotten pecked to death. "They said they had been following you?"
"Not surprised," Ester admitted as sirens sounded on their way. "There's a reason I'm goth. Been a ghost magnet for most of my life." She let out a sigh as she gave Danny another look. "Danny Phantom, right? My little cousin's talked about you. Sam Manson, do you know her?"
"You're her cousin?" Danny asked, rubbing the back of his neck as he realized that comment about her being cute was going to bite him in the butt real quick. Recovering from his pause he quickly smiled and added, "Yeah, she's in charge of the ghost movement this weekend. She asked me to help."
An ambulance and fire truck pulled up to the side of the road, getting her to say, "If you see her before I do, let her know I'm okay. It'll be a bit before I get to her place now."
"Will do," Danny said, rising up from the ground as he gave her a wave. "Good luck with your baby." He saw her give a small laugh before turning to fly back towards the park. He took the way slowly, not sure why he was dragging his tail but also found he couldn't get Ester out of his mind. "Just my luck," Danny mumbled to himself. "I've got a thing for goths."
Danny dropped down at the edge of the park and transformed behind a tree, walking around as Fenton to make the rest of the way on foot. He shoved his hands in his pocket as he listened into what he could hear from farther inside the park. A few people were out walking, some with their dogs or children, and the sounds of nature were relaxing- something he had learned to hear from Sam- as his mind turned back to Dani. It had been two weeks since they had finally healed her. She spent a week with them at Fenton Works until Damon and Valerie asked for her to come back to their house. He hoped she was still doing well, but with Sam's event coming up this weekend, he had been a little busier than he expected he would be.
A generator cut through his mind, pulling him back to the park. Danny pulled his hands from his pockets and hurried the rest of the way to where he knew Sam and the crew were only to slow down as he got closer and saw they needed an engine to power opening the stage up. He passed a few onlookers that had stopped what they were doing and got up to Sam, letting the stage fully unfurl and the engine to turn off before making himself known to her. "I didn't know your cousin was in town."
Sam looked up from the paper in her hands, jumping slightly as she realized Danny was standing right beside her. "Danny!" she exclaimed. Regaining herself she asked, "What do you mean?"
"Your cousin, Ester," Danny said, throwing his thumb over his shoulder towards where the wreck had happened. "The vultures attacked her car while she was driving to your place."
"Vlad's vultures?" Sam asked, concern on her face.
"They left," Danny offered. "And Ester's fine. The EMTs were getting there when I left."
"That can't be my cousin," Sam said, shaking her head. She looked back at her papers and added, "Pora's in Calgary and she doesn't fly."
"She's not gonna be driving much, either," Danny admitted. "They forced her into a light pole. Called the car her baby."
Sam raised an eyebrow and turned her head slightly towards Danny. "What'd she look like?"
"Goth, older than us, about yeh tall," Danny said, holding his hand right above his own head to show what he meant. He couldn't figure out how else to describe the girl to Sam without inadvertently putting his foot in his mouth so he ended with, "Said something about being a ghost magnet?"
"No way, Pora?" Sam asked, surprise on her face as she turned fully to Danny.
-.-.-.-
Danny followed Sam through her front door, helping with as much of the set up as he could so they could get to her place faster. He pushed the door closed behind himself as he heard Sam calling out for Pora, noticing a suitcase in the entry hall. He followed her into the living room where Sam's parents and grandma sat around the goth he had helped earlier who was now sitting in an arm chair.
"Pora, I can't believe you're in town," Sam said, the older goth rising to her feet so the two could hug.
Danny stayed back, feeling a bit like he shouldn't be here, added with the glare Jeremy and Pam were giving him. He took a step back only to lay eyes on Grandma Ida who was waving Danny over to her side. He stepped over to her and looked back at Sam and Ester as the two broke away from each other.
"Phantom told me you were in a wreck, are you okay?" Sam asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Ester said with a sigh. "My poor car isn't though. It's in the shop right now seeing how bad off it really is." She looked up at Danny, noticing him as she gave him a smile. "Is this the guy you've talked about?" she asked, giving Sam a glance and a smile.
Sam took the step over to stand beside Danny and grabbed his hand. "Yap," she said proudly. She looked back at Danny and offered, "This is my cousin, Pora inside the family, Ester to those outside."
Danny's mouth formed an oh as he understood why the girl had two names. He turned to the girl and offered, "Name's Danny."
"It's what I get for having a Jewish first name," Pora said, running a hand up the back of her head to flip the hair to her left shoulder.
"We're just glad you're safe," Jeremy offered.
"Were you able to get your luggage from your car?" Pamela asked. "We can help you with a hotel room, if you need."
"Thanks Aunt Pam," Pora said with a smile.
"Hotel, shmotel, she's staying here," Ida ordered.
"Mom, you know that's not really practical," Jeremy defended.
"There's a guest room," Ida said. She looked over at Pora and said, "Take the room next to mine. We'll get your stuff up there."
"Thanks Grandma," Pora offered. She looked at the couple and tried, "You won't even know I'm here. I promise."
"I'll help with your suitcase," Danny offered, sure Sam's dad wasn't going to offer.
"I've got it," Pora said, following Grandma Ida's scooter out of the living room and back to the hallway.
Sam gave Danny's hand a squeeze before releasing it and leading him away from her parents. He gave the couple a strained smile before following the three women out of the room to find Pora had already grabbed the rolling suitcase.
"I thought you were in Canada," Sam said, walking beside the girl a few inches taller than herself.
"I took some time off to come see my favorite cousin's first weekend," Pora informed with a smile through her black lipstick. Her smile faltered as she added, "Hopefully it won't have to be extended. I don't know when they'll be done with my car."
"With how many times my sister's car's been in the shop from ghost attacks, they have to be pretty used to it by now," Danny offered as the four stopped to wait for the elevator.
"He's right, it shouldn't take you too long," Ida said with a nod. "And don't let your uncle and aunt get under your skin while you're here."
The elevator door opened as Danny asked Sam in a whisper, "How's she related?"
"She's mom's sister's kid," Sam offered as they waited for Ida to turn her scooter around in the elevator. "My parents don't like her-"
"Because I turned their daughter goth," Pora said, showing she had been listening as she looked at the two. With a pointed smile she added, "I'm a menace to society."
"You're not the one dating their daughter," Danny retorted with a similar smile.
"Oh so you've had the wrath of Pamela and Jeremy Manson too?" Pora asked as the three filled into the elevator.
Danny reached over and hit the second floor's button, closing the door for the elevator to start up as he said, "Restraining orders."
"Ooo, forbidden love than," Pora said with a laugh.
"They've dropped those months ago," Sam pointed out.
"Your dad's always threatening to reinstate them," Danny said, remembering the blonde haired man's threat only a few months ago before the end of school.
"Still?" Sam asked as the elevator came to a stop.
"Give my son some grace," Ida said. "He's only got the one daughter."
"Sorry, Grandma Ida," Danny offered as similar apologies came from the girls as Pora led the way out of the elevator.
AN: I love any time Grandma Ida shows up. She's the type of grandma that it doesn't matter who you are, you're gonna call her Grandma.
Also Pora's full name is Tzipora Ester Rayman. Even within her own family only when she's in trouble does anyone call her Tizpora.
