Hey! Wow, almost a whole year before I updated this! Not that bad compared to 2007 stories that are not yet finished in 2013. Ok Ways of War Chapter 2!

Recap-

'Thank you brother!' was what Alphonse would have said - but the words died in his throat - for lying there on the ground in a crumpled heap was none of than Edward.

End Recap

Anger captivated Al's heart as he mercilessly murdered countless soldiers on the battlefield. How dare they hurt his big brother? However, anger is a deadly thing. In his rage Alphonse did not notice that surviving enemies on the ground got up to form a group, swords at ready pointing to his broken heart. He turned, his eyes similar to a demons, killing the rebelling group with one slash of his sword. Back-up feared if they came on the field they too would feel the wrath of Alphonse Elric. A medical team came to take Ed away.

Roy Mustang had just arrived at Edward's home town. In Reisombol the houses were far apart, spread about. He knew the Elric's house was gone, so he just continued on to their childhood friend's home.

"How is he getting, better?" "No, still locked up in his room, he seems to be getting worse." It was in his head. He had been living in a delusional, almost comatose, world for a few years now. His brother protected him, dying in the process. Alphonse Elric never had his body , nor did he go to any sort of war. He died at the age of thirteen. There was never a war of any kind that they were all involved in with Ed, there was no Maes Hughes, none of it ever happened.

Of course if you asked Edward he would most definitely tell you other wise - he would tell you that he was going to visit Nina and her dog after the war and that Elycia was growing up to be a daddies girl, which meant that Hughes had to get out of the war soon. If you asked him where Alphonse was he would ask if you were blind and reply right next to him. If you asked where Nina's dad was he would say studying for his assessment. Even if you asked why he could talk to you if it was a war zone he would answer in a completely rational and yet so irrational way.

He was not insane - delusional, in denial, afraid, missing that one thing that was secretly always his rock - but not insane. He was dangling hopelessly over the edge where he found a hidden cave. He took refugee in it and if he came out he would fall into the darkness below. The one person who could pull him to the top again was gone and would never come back. Break him? No. He was already broken. Just a crack? It had long since been that, even before this happened.

People stopped visiting him, they just said they would come back when he was 'better'. None of them actually believed that would happen, not one of them knew where some of those shards went. Alphonse knew where every piece that cracked off would fit - he knew how to make his brother whole again. Now that the glue to hold that vase together was gone it had shattered once again - all of the pieces ever fixed finally falling one by one.

No one could save Edward from himself, it was already too late. It started with 'Al is still here! He just...is not waking up yet!' and progressed to 'I got the philosophers stone! I brought him back, see! He even has his body...How does it feel, Al?'. It got worse but it was not a fantasy - at least not in every way - he basically lived out the live he wanted, if not more or less had.

Ed was still his old self, before he left to be a state alchemist. He was the young boy still - not putting up the act, not wearing the black clothes...It scared them. Did he even remember his past life? Of course, he remember them and Al and even Roy, so what happened? No one really knew and Ed would never be able to tell them if he did not even realize what he was doing.

This is the way of a war. An internal war, and ever lasting war.
