Epilogue
First Step to the End
"Come on! Move it!"
"I'm moving as fast as I can!"
"Well, you have to go faster!"
Sienna heard the voices as they moved through the crowd, headed her way. She had been in Junon for nearly two weeks, searching for anything that Gast had done in this city 23 years ago. The only ones that seemed to remember anything were either dead already or too old with a messed up brain. She cursed at herself for getting as excited as she had been; she should have known that she wouldn't have been lucky enough to find out what had happened to her or where she had come from. She had let her hopes rise and the crash down was painful.
So, when she had realized that she wasn't going to be able to find anything, Sienna had let her feelings go and decided to have a little mini vacation. Junon, what was once just a peaceful fishing village, was now invaded by the large city and military Installation created by ShinRa Inc. The city's elevated airfield had been built directly over the old village, making Sienna frown at what had become of the small home.
Was that little village where she was from? She had searched through it just like she had the city, but she found no more answers there then she had in the city. So she was left to just enjoy herself, in anyways she could, in the city. She found herself liking to take a seat on the large Mako cannon and play her music; like she did in the training room with Sephiroth and Angeal and Genesis when this is where the Training Room took them.
It just wasn't the same without her male trio, though.
"Come on! Run!"
"Stop! Halt! Catch them!"
The second voice was a man, a troop of ShinRa, it appeared. He was chasing after the duo running through the crowd. Sienna paused in her steps and turned just in time to have one of the runners slam into her leg. She blinked, staring down at the petite form as the food she had been carry scattered around the ground at her feet.
"Ow," they rubbed their face. "I'm sorry."
Sienna's heart cried. It was a young girl, barely in her teens with short brown hair and eyes. She was covered in dirt and grim, voicing that she lived in the streets. And if her state hadn't told that, then her skinny form announced that too. And it made Sienna hurt more to see her scrambling to pick what she had dropped back up. She stumbled and fell again.
"Come on, Jeanne!" Sienna turned to find that a second form had returned for her companion. It was another girl, a spitting image of the other one, just older and with longer hair. "We have to go!"
"I'm sorry, Jena! I-"
"Got you!" The guards had caught up to them and grabbed Jeanne by her arm. "You thieves that you'd get away, did you? Not today! We were waiting for you!"
"Let go of my sister!" The one called Jena growled and ran forward to attack the guard but a second one grabbed her. "Let me go!"
"Oh no. You little rats are coming with us this ti…" His voice faded as he finally realized who he was standing in front of. His eyes had grown wide as he stared at the 1st Class SOLDIER that was glaring at him. He then searched the area around him; looking for Sephiroth, no doubt.
"Jakob, what are you doing?" His companion asked him.
"It would be wise of you to set the child down, Jakob." Sienna began, staring at the man.
"But," The man looked completely lost. "Thieves…orders."
"Don't listen to this stupid woman, let's go, Jakob." His partner moved forward, dragging a struggling Jena behind him. His foot was then stuck to the ground. Glancing down, he found that ice had grown over his feet. He turned and glared at her. "If you interfere with us any more, ShinRa will-"
"Go ahead and contact the President if you'd like," Sienna gave a small smile. "Arguing with a 1st Class SOLDIER will just get you removed from the program, wouldn't you think?"
1st-1st Class?" The guard realized now, just like his partner had. "That means you're-"
"Give me the children and be on your way." Sienna ordered him, her smile turning into a fierce look. "Or am I going to have to remove your hand myself?" Both children were released and they ran to hind behind the one that had saved them. "Good. Now get out of here." Removing the ice, she watched for a moment as the two men ran off. She then rolled her eyes as the crowd continued on like lifeless drones that didn't seem to have any concept of what had just happened. Giving a small smile, she turned to the two girls. "Are the two of you all right?"
The younger child looked like she was about to cry before lurching forward and burying her face into Sienna shirt. She had not been expecting that but a small smile spread across her face as she wrapped an arm around her body. The elder sister just glared at the ground for a moment before bending down to pick up everything that they had dropped. Sienna grabbed her arm to stop her but she ripped away from her.
"Don't touch me! Just leave us alone!"
"Jena," the younger girl turned and looked at her sister, wiping the tears from her face.
"We don't need your help!" Jena growled, refusing to let her own tears show.
Sienna gave a sad smile as she knelt down. "You poor things…left here to fend for yourselves." Was this what she had endured before Gast found her? Had she been running around the streets, digging through garbage and stealing from stores to survive? "What are your names?"
"I'm Jeanne," the younger one answered her as her sister stayed silent. "Jeanne Rush and this is my sister, Jena."
"Jeanne and Jena Rush, huh?" Sienna smiled. "A good name, considering how fast you moved through the crowd. If I hadn't of stopped in front of you, then you would have gotten away."
"You mean you did it on purpose?!" Jena growled, glaring at the older woman.
Sienna's answer was just a smile. "How would the two of you like to come with me?" the sisters looked shocked. "I can give you a nice hot bath, a good meal, and a place to rest for the night. What do you say?"
Jeanne looked happy but Jena looked cautious. "You're not one of those weirdoes, are you?"
Sienna, instantly knowing what the child was thinking about, gave a foul look. "I might be strange, but I'm not one of those freaks, understand? I'd kill myself before I did that."
Jena seemed to accept that answer. "If you do anything funny though, I'll make you regret it."
Sienna gave a laugh. "Spunk for a little girl."
"I'm 15, thank you!"
"Oh really? You sure don't look like it. Short for a 15-year-old."
Jena gave a growl. "Just who the hell do you think you are?!"
Sienna dropped a hand on her head and gave a little rub before standing up again. "The name's Sienna," she walked past them a few steps before turning back to them. "So, are the two of you coming with me, or are you just going to stand there?" Not waiting for an answer, Sienna turned and continued on down the street.
Jena watched after her for a moment before Jeanne grabbed her hand. Glancing down at her younger sister, it only took Jena a few moments to think before led the way after the woman that had saved them…
