So here's the next disney quote :) Also, I stole a name from the movie Definitely, Maybe. Just saying!
~You Think You Can Just Show Up~
HG/SS
From the day she had arrived on his doorstep, the sun actually breaking through the thick clouds over Cokeworth and shining around her figure in the open doorway, she had changed things, poked and prodded. Surviving for the chance at a life free of any masters, while it had not softened him, he at least consented to open the door and say, "Well, well, well, Professor Granger, to what do I owe the pleasure?"
"I have a proposition for you," she said with a polite professional smile as she swept into his dark sitting-room and threw open the drapes. Those words were the beginning of it all. With a force like Hermione Jean Granger -Transfiguration Professor, Magical Creature Rights Activist, and know-it-all extraordinaire- it was no wonder how he had gotten roped back into supplying potions the Hospital Wing at Hogwarts. But there she did not stop, constantly flooing in over the summer holidays, poking around in his lab, and (the gall of the woman) actually going so far as to encourage him to "get back out there".
"Miss Granger." She raised her head to look up from a particular potion that he was brewing.
"You're brewing Veritaserum?"
"Not that it's any of your business, but yes, I am. But Miss Granger-"
"If you're going to stay on a strictly professional surname basis, please refrain from 'Miss Granger'. I'm a teacher for goodness sakes, Severus. I mean, goodness, I haven't been a student in seven years."
"At which point I should have been rid of you."
"Severus, you don't really mean that. Now then, the Veritaserum, Ministry contract?"
"Yes of course. But why on Earth should that matter to you?"
"I happen to be protecting my investment."
"You mean your accessibility to me so you may meddle wherever you see fit. I swear you must be conspiring with that old coot."
"I'll tell him that during tea with Minerva," she said with a slight laugh.
Severus sighed and waved her away from his cauldron. It was moments like this that made it easier to pretend that his former student was not a very attractive young woman. The moments when he wasn't to throw her out on her hind end for being so nosy and infuriating. He cast a stasis charm over the Veritaserum as she made her way out of his lab, the door wide open behind her in a way that said, 'you know you're coming too, right?' He strode out, closing the door and making his way into his sitting room. He watched as she charmed the tea to make itself and settled into what he had begun to think of as her chair. The warm chocolate colored armchair was one of the few in the room that actually looked careworn and not simply neglected. She had helped a bit with the air of neglect that seemed to permeate the house, using house keeping charms and muggle 'TLC' as she liked to call it.
"Have you met Caroline Hopper in the potions division of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement?"
"I have," came his stilted reply. This was no doubt one of Granger's endless attempts to 'fix him up.'
"And did you...like her?" The question was hesitant for once. Severus gave her a a pointed look as she attempted 'innocent.'
"Miss Granger, would you please begin to extract your nose out of at least one part of my life, namely my happily nonexistent love life?"
Already the young woman had wormed his way into his home to the point that each day he opened his curtains, knowing that the muggleborn could pop by and would only chastise him before throwing them open herself. His relationship with her was as close to what he could call 'friendly,' at least one day each week held a visit from the professor, her essays littering his coffee table as she graded them on each visit. Her chair smelled of parchment and lavender, her muggle and magical books were slowly worming their way onto his already full shelves.
"Severus, there's something that you and this house have in common."
"And that is?"
"Need of a woman's touch."
"A woman's touch." His companion flushed.
"Not that way, you know that."
"No, Miss Granger, I don't."
The room went silent. They had had this discussion many times through the course of their acquaintance and friendship of sorts. For the life of him, Severus Snape could not figure out the younger woman's need to nose into this. In all the years he'd known her, she had not been one for romantic ties herself, nor for nosing into others love lives.
"Don't you think it's time to move on, Severus? It's been-"
Those words were the last straw.
"You think you can just show up and tell me how to live my life? You don't even know what I've been through." Severus's voice was cutting and quiet. One his companion was all too familiar with. She gave a sigh.
"I would if you would just tell me. I know more than you give me credit for"
"Get out." Snape angrily stood as he said this, gesturing toward the door.
Her face truly fell then as she stood but she hesitated to leave. He could practically see the gears whirling in her head, grasping at straws.
"I know it's hard to let her go but maybe if you did you'd be a tad...happier."
"Happier?" Snape scoffed. "Professor Granger, when you've experienced the pain I've been through, then talk to me about moving on."
"Can you not just accept the fact that someone cares about you NOW and wants you happy?"
"And why do you care so much?"
The sitting room at Spinners End grew silent. The current and ex professors eyed each other. Eventually she made her way over to Severus, not exactly exuding confidence but standing her ground none the less.
*"Maybe because I'd like you to start moving on so that I can get you to start moving in my direction."* The gravity of her words hit him and, although he hated to admit it, his face softened. Hermione Jean Granger -Transfiguration Professor, Magical Creature Rights Activist, and know-it-all extraordinaire- had started to slither into his life, slipping in while he just let her in, 'fighting' her the whole way. And there she stood, filling his sitting room and lab and life and he had unknowingly already accepted her in. As he held her gaze, he stepped closer.
"I don't need to move on right now..." Hermione bit her lip, starting to look away as he continued to speak. "...because I already have."
"...You have?"
He tilted her chin up to meet him, a gesture he never thought he'd do.
"I have," he said, punctuating the end of his sentence with a breath of a kiss.
*I just have to say this is one of my most favorite lines that I've ever written.
Well, I hope you figure out the movie from this quote :) cheers
