The Chronicles of the Fallen
A/N: Hey guys, sorry I've been absent from FF for so long. I was taking a summer semester of college and since it was a summer semester, it was crammed into 10 weeks instead of 16, so I didn't have time for writing. But I just finished my last week and I'm back for the time being and anxious to get back to my stories! Hope you enjoy!
This story is written as a collaboration by both Xo Bella Italiana oX (my new pen name) and dramaqueen1917. If you have any questions or comments, post them in my reviews and I will answer them in my next Author's Note. We hope that you enjoy the story and look forward to reading your reviews. – B
Chapter 24: Anna's First Day
(Anna's POV)
"Guys, this is Charlie's daughter, Annabelle," Bella introduced me. "Anna, this is Jasper's twin sister, Rosalie Hale, and her boyfriend Emmett Cullen." She embraced Jasper, wrapping her arms around his middle while he looked down at her like she hung the moon. They really were a gorgeous couple, not only referring to their out of this world beauty, and it made me almost jealous of what they had together. I felt the familiar yearning deep within my heart and I knew I could only wish for a love as beautiful and pure as the love between Bella and Jasper. Even looking at them now, I felt like an intruder– an unwelcome one at that.
I sighed. I hoped to find the one – that guy that would make me swoon without even trying. At least then I wouldn't have to worry about any guy-related drama…
Blushing, I turned my head and concentrated instead on Bella's two other friends, who she introduced as Rosalie Hale – Jasper's twin sister – and Emmett Cullen, Rosalie's boyfriend.
Emmett and Rosalie were also another couple who looked like perfection. I was beginning to notice that Bella seemed to have immersed herself in devastatingly beautiful people. All of them were different, yet similar in so many ways. For one, they all had chalky pale skin, and they all seemed to have dark eyes despite the difference in hair colour. There were also shadows under all of theirs eyes. They were purplish and bruise-like, as though they had been suffering from many sleepless nights. However, I could have sworn that when I met Jasper for the first time the other day, his eyes were a golden colour, but I put that out of my mind for the time being.
Studying Emmett, I saw that he was built like a serious weight lifter with dark curly hair – he reminded me of a bear, dangerous and intimidating, however the dimples on his cheeks made him seem more approachable and fun-loving.
Rosalie looked like she had just walked out of a Victoria's Secret runway or the cover of some high class magazine. She had a beautiful figure and her clothing only seemed to emphasise her curves. Rosalie had golden hair – the type that could have been compared to a ray of pure sunlight, a bit lighter than Jasper's honey blonde curls.
"It's nice to meet Bellsie's new sister," Emmett smiled wider, showing his teeth.
I think my jaw dropped. They were all just so… so… pretty. I mentally slapped myself over the head with a thesaurus – thank goodness only I had access to my mind. If anyone else could read my mind during these bouts of stupidity of mine, I think they would be registering me in an insane asylum. I mean seriously, who calls people their age – both males and females – 'pretty?' Oh right… ME.
"It's nice to meet you both," I said once I had managed to gather my wits.
In the corner of my eye, I noticed Jasper tense up, as a result Bella's arms tightened around him. It was a small gesture of love, but it was abundantly clear that the love Jasper and Bella shared was not just some simple high school romance. They were made for each other and would be 'that couple' that everyone wanted to be and would last until they were old and grey.
Before I could say anything else and make myself look even stupider than I did then, the first bell rang, signalling the ten minute warning for first period and saving me from further humiliation.
Saved by the bell.
Forks High School has a frightening total of only three hundred and fifty seven… well fifty eight students. Back home, there were more than seven hundred people in my junior class alone. All of the students in Forks High were town-kids, everyone knew everyone and all of the kids here had grown up together. Personally, I would not have been surprised if their grandparents had been toddlers together.
To Forks High, I was the new girl from the big city, a curiosity, a freak – The main attraction to the circus.
School is school. I knew from the very beginning that I wasn't going to fall in love with all of my classes and start plucking flowers and picking apples to give to my teachers. Heck, I didn't even do that when I was five and people still called me a teacher's pet. I could feel myself rolling my eyes mentally.
My morning passed in a rather dull and boring manner, though I was glad to have Bella in my first period to at least get me settled in. After Spanish with Ms. Short, I had Math and my Trigonometry teacher, Mr Varner, smelled like cleaning product - the kind that are so clean that all you can do is concentrate on not gagging. Whenever he talked, I could almost glimpse little golden flecks from his gold tooth. He ever had a bottle of hand sanitizer sitting on his desk that was half empty from frequent use.
From the very beginning, I just knew that Mr Varner and I wouldn't get along because not only did he teach trigonometry – my least favourite subject ever - but he was also one for student humiliation. I could almost picture his crooked smirk as I stuttered and mumbled my way through my torture introduction that I had to give upon my entry.
I turned so many shades of red that I wouldn't be surprised if some guy were to call me tomorrow from the other side of the world and talk about how he heard of my tomato-colored cheeks and wanted to invest in it. At least then my constant blushing would be worth something.
After my first two classes, my brain kicked in and I started recognizing some faces from other classes. There was always someone braver than the others who would come up and introduce themselves, ask me questions about how I was liking Forks and more often than not, they'd ask me what it was like being sisters with someone like Bella. I tried to be diplomatic, and fair, and honest, but mostly, I just lied my ass off. What was I meant to say? Forks is so wet and cold and this town is too small and I just know I'll be counting down the days til I can escape? Oh, and Bella isn't my real sister – unfortunately, I was never blessed to be related to anyone as awesome and as her. I highly doubt such an answer would have been taken well with the population in Forks.
Whilst I admit I don't even know the beginning about life in a small town, Bella did hint at the fact that the residents of Forks had a knack for gossip - I wasn't going to ruin everything by opening my big mouth.
One girl sat next to me in both Trigonometry and Spanish (She, unlike me, actually managed to take notes in Spanish whereas I was sitting there dumbfounded and wondering what the heck we were learning about, trying to catch on to the lesson… I figured it out… eventually). She was nice enough to even walk with me to the cafeteria for lunch. She was tiny – a little shorter than me – but her wild, curly, dark hair made up for whatever difference there was between us in height.
I couldn't remember her name (I was pretty sure she never introduced herself, at least) so I just smiled and nodded, pretending that I knew about whatever the heck she was talking about. I tried to keep up at first, but after hearing about how some guy was apparently with some girl and how they were 'totally going to get married and have kids after high school', I 'totally' lost interest. After that, it was all water behind my ears.
We sat at the end of a full table with several of her friends who she introduced to me. It's sad to say that I forgot all their names as soon as she spoke them. They all smiled and welcomed me into their group nevertheless, though I did have a sneaking suspicion that at least some of them knew I didn't register their names. I've never been the best of liars as my thoughts and emotions usually read clear as day on my face.
Suddenly, I noticed the girl's eyes bulge out of her head and I could almost picture her jaw lying on the ground somewhere like in a cartoon before someone comes along and shoves it back into her head.
"Oh My Gosh, The Cullens' and Bella are looking our way! Be cool!" She squealed, "This is like totally an invite to –"
I swear everyone in the group froze when they saw Bella flash a grin at us, causing everyone at the table choke at the sheer loveliness and perfection of it. I watched her wink at me before she laughed and went back to sucking face with her Adonis of a boyfriend.
The rest of the group laughed before they resumed their talks. There was, however, two others sitting with Bella that I haven't met yet. One was a pixie-like girl with black hair cut short and spiked in every direction. She was tiny and looked very upbeat as she stood from her seat and almost seemed to dance her way to the trash can to throw away her tray. The other was a guy who kept staring at me with a strange look on his face. He was extremely handsome, though not as manly as the rest of the guys at their table. He had an odd colour hair that resembled that of a penny and the same eyes and skin complexion as the rest of the Cullen's. But there was something about him that just stood out to me, even amongst the other beautiful people around him. His hair was untidy as though he had just rolled out of bed and he was lanky and not as well built as the rest of his brothers. He was also more boyish that the others, who could have passed off as 25, maybe even a teacher rather than a student. He was obviously the youngest brother.
Having been caught staring, I could feel my blush rising to my cheeks, so instead I attempted to divert my attention to the apple and sandwich on my lunch tray. But I couldn't resist; I glanced sideways at the stranger, who was now also looking down at his tray, picking at the pieces of his bagel to pieces with long, pale fingers. His mouth was moving quickly, almost blurring and his pink lips moved audibly.
The girl, I think Bella said her name was Jessica, looked beyond me to 'the Cullens' table' as I learned it was called, before looking back at me, having seen me staring. "That's Edward and Emmett Cullen, and Rosalie and Jasper Hale. The one who just left was Alice Cullen; they all live together, like under the same roof with Dr. Cullen and his wife. Bella will probably end up introducing you at some point." My neighbour muttered under her breath before giggling in embarrassment.
Edward.
There was something about the name that just fitted so perfectly – something that just… clicked. I couldn't think of a single name that could have better fitted him.
So much for not having to worry about any guy-related drama.
"I wouldn't bother," a blonde girl snarked from across from me. "Edward Cullen doesn't date."
Jessica nodded, poking at her mashed potatoes with her fork. "Apparently no one at this school is good enough for him."
"That's because he likes Bella." An Asian girl with glasses spoke from the other side of Jessica spoke.
The girl across from me sighed. "Oh, that's right. I almost forgot."
I swear I felt my stomach sink.
"What do you mean?" I asked no one in particular.
It was the Asian girl who answered. "He's liked her ever since she started here. They seemed real close for a while and we all thought they were going to end up together, but then she suddenly showed up at school dating Jasper." She explained. "I'm Angela, by the way." She introduced herself.
I nodded absentmindedly, still wrapping my head around this piece of information. "Yeah, Bella told me about you. I'm Anna."
"It's so totally obvious that Edward is crushed about Bella and Jasper dating. She's so lucky to have two such gorgeous guys pinning over her." Jessica gushed with a hint of envy in her tone.
"Well, she is a really nice person." Angela reasoned.
"Not to mention a total babe!" A blonde boy jumped in the conversation as he placed his tray down next to the blonde girl across from me. Noticing who I was, he threw a nod my way. "Sup? I'm Mike."
"Nice to meet you." I shrugged, not really knowing what else to say.
"This is Bella's sister, Annabelle." Jessica said.
"Anna," I corrected before tuning them out and looking back over towards the Cullen's table and internally sighing as I stared at my new sister.
What I wouldn't give to be her…
