Thanks everyone that gave me advice to improve things!
Mai pushed away from Lin, heading for a table that was placed against the wall Monk had been standing against. She pulled the table out to the middle of the room, pretending not to notice the strange looks from the three other people in the room. Mai looked around. "Candle," she asked ", I need a candle if you have one." Lin stared at her for about a minute before he moved to a closet at the end of the room. He placed three candle and a match in front of Mai then backed away. "You will have to leave those bodies," Mai said ", they will have to be outside, as well as Yasu."
"Why," Lin questioned ", It's not like we're going to drag their spirits along with us!" Mai stopped and looked at him, she had to think a bit before she came up with an answer that made sense.
"Because You cannot be in a body while this goes on, through this your spirit will be searching for something to hold on to and keep attached to this world." Mai was impressed with herself, and by the look Yasu was giving her, she knew he was a bit surprised by how strong she sounded. Mai looked at them with a determined looked.
The two men glared at Mai, but agreed. Lin unlatched the chain that was wrapped around Yasu and tossed him over his shoulder. He waved for Monk to fallow, opened the door and left the room, Monk at his tail. Mai fallowed behind, just to make sure they did exactly as she had said. She watched as they throw Yasu out the door, she flinched as he hit the ground with a thud. Monk glanced at Lin who gave a slight node. Monk walked out the door got a few feet then landed face first into the dirt. Mai could sense Masao's spirit being yanked back towards the building and for the first time she realized that they couldn't leave the building at all. Lin turned and gave one last glare a Mai before he stepped outside and hit the ground, Akio's spirit shooting back to the building. Mai raced up the stairs, Masao and Akio right behind her. She rushed into the room, slowing as the pasted the door way, and knelt down next to the table. She struck the match up against the table, the second time the top of the match exploded into a beautiful light. Mai touched it to the top of all three candles, sharing its light. She blew out the match and stared at the fire.
"Sit in front of the table," Mai said, motioning towards the other side of the table. She could sense the two spirits move to the table were they seemed to float. Mai concentrated on the flame, watching how a small stream of smoke lifted of the orange light. Help me, brother, Mai thought, putting all her thought into releasing the spirits from the world, sending them to the the other side. Mai could feel her brothers hands on her shoulders. She mentally pushed them, feeling how their presence was starting to dwindle. Mai sat straining until she could no longer sense them in the room. Was it over, she wasn't like Masako who could tell if there was a spirit a mile a way. Mai opened her eyes, she hadn't realized that she had closed them until it was over. Mai tried to get to her feet, but her legs were shaking so bad that she couldn't get past the point of a crawling position. She sat for a bit longer watching the flame, then got to her hands and knees. She crawled to the door, opened it, and went into the hall. She sensed nothing out there at all. Thank heavens! she thought. Mai got to the stairs, gripped the railing, and pulled her self to her feet, controlling the shake as much as she could. She slowly went down the stairs, reaching the bottom with joy. Nothing down here ether. Mai made it to the front door. She pulled it open, walked out side, hit the grass, and blacked out.
Mai slide from sleep, she could feel someone caring her, an arm under her knees and another one around her back. She opened her eyes to see Lin. She twisted, trying to get out of his arms, trying to escape.
"It's me," Lin said, his grip tightening. "I'm me now." Mai looked up at him and realized above them was the blue sky. "You released them, Masako confirmed it, everything is back to normal." Mai smiled up at him then rested her head against his shoulder. Everything was going to be okay now.
"You got her," a voice called. Mai turned to see Yasu limping toward them, his arm in a cast. As Yasu reached them he bent and kissed Mai's cheek. Mai's face heated. "I'm glade your alright!" Mai smiled, maybe not everything was going to be the same.
