A/N: To everyone who reviewed, thanks so much! Don't worry, you'll learn much more in the next few chapters :) try not to judge Eric too harshly!
Eric was lying in a field, there were wildflowers surrounding him and the moonlight was streaming down from the full moon above him. His hands were clasped tightly on his chest as he tried his hardest to clear his thoughts. This was the type of place that Roslyn would have called magical. Eric shut his eyes to stop the tears. Never had a person affected him so greatly, he hated her for making him feel so much pain – the hatred was immediately stomped out – he loved her far too much to ever hate her, the feelings of hate should be directed to himself. He was the worst maker ever, to make a progeny walk into an ambush the way he did was despicable.
The sun was just starting to peek over the hill. A thrill rose within Eric, he could just lay here and let the sun burn him to a crisp. That would atone for his sins, maybe if he still had a soul it would give him a pass to be wherever Roslyn had ended up. Eric thought for a moment of Roslyn reuniting with her father, which would have made her happy.
Eric thought idly about his human family. His mother, father and baby sister had been brutally murdered by the werewolves that were drinking vampire blood; he shuddered at the memory. He felt his desire to avenge his family diminish. But now he felt the need to avenge Roslyn. He sighed, he just felt a well of sadness fill him up, and every desire he felt was wiped away.
His skin began to tingle, he could feel the sun's light now, he inhaled deeply, not because he needed the breath, he just wanted to feel his chest cavity take the air into his lungs, making his clasped hands rise, and then whoosh out quickly. He continued to stare at the sky as it began to lighten.
Godric came to him then, "My child, come inside now."
"Maybe I want to die again." Eric laughed with no humour.
"Eric, listen to me, this feeling will pass. You will be yourself again soon. Give it time." Godric then reached for Eric and pulled him to his feet. "Come."
Eric followed Godric, turning to watch the sun rise before he too entered the mausoleum they were currently residing in. He lay in his coffin, eyes unblinking; he had seriously considered ending his eternal life that night, which greatly concerned him. Where had the old him gone? The one who only ever cared about himself? He felt as though as quickly as Roslyn had entered and taken over his life, she had left it. He hadn't been ready for her to leave. Eric admitted he missed her. Her carefree laugh, the smiles she always saved for him, the way her eye would light up when he walked in a room, and she had been so good to look at. She certainly had been beautiful, becoming a vampire had only increased her beauty if anything. Eric sighed again and closed his eyes, his mind was starting to slow, sleep was inevitable.
It was dark and cold. She had felt like this before, the trapped feeling of being underground; however there was not marvelous awakening, and no Eric there to pull her from her grave. She tried digging, but the earth was compacted, she couldn't even open her eyes.
She must have been in the earth for a long time, her blistered skin had healed and her body was beginning to slowly regain strength, however she was lacking nourishment; she needed blood. After lying in the suffocating darkness for a long while she felt the earth shift, someone was digging her out. Roslyn felt her body clam up, she had no idea who had removed her from the pit of silver as she had passed out before they had arrived; but she felt it safe to assume that whoever was retrieving her now may have intent to harm her. She mentally braced herself as she was hoisted from her grave.
Her body was still sore and weak; a packet of blood was thrust at her from a hooded figure. The faceless figure nodded to her, Roslyn tore into the packet at the confirmation. She had finished and looked for more, she was starving; however her caretaker quickly grabbed her arm and began leading her away. Roslyn didn't protest she merely followed.
Roslyn was unceremoniously thrown into a room filled with finery. She looked around and spotted a well-dressed rather short man.
"Ah my dear! My wolves told me you had been buried; I apologize immensely. Had I know who you were, I would have been much more accommodating." The man spoke with a flourish. "My name Korun, but you may call me Russell, it's a new name I'm thinking of adopting." He gave her a winning smile. "And your name is?" He prompted at her silence.
"Roslyn Cutbert." She whispered, eyeing him carefully. Eric had warned her about other vampires, and this one was definitely dangerous, she could feel it.
"Ahh, Eric's progeny, yes?" He was looking for her reaction now.
"Yes, I am Eric's." She replied stiffly.
"And he hasn't called you?" Russell inquired.
Roslyn suddenly felt a stab of uncertainty, she didn't know what being called by Eric would have felt like, and he had never called her. What if he had called her to him and she hadn't responded.
Russell must have interpreted her confusion; "You do not even know what it feels like for your maker to call you to him. Well, Eric's loss, I will reap the benefits."
He walked to her and draped an arm around her shoulders, "Come, you need to get cleaned up and fed properly. My wolves do not understand the needs of the undead."
Roslyn found herself alone in a spacious bathroom with a tub filled with hot water, she undressed and lowered herself into the water. She remained there until the water was no longer hot. There was a dress laid out for her, which she put on quickly. She felt better now, she felt like now she had a chance, a chance to get back to Eric. She didn't even know how long she had been gone from him; certainly this had been the longest.
Russell was waiting for her in the sitting room down the hall. "Roslyn, this house is made for vampires, the drapes are completely sun proof; so I trust you will sleep soundly." Then he turned serious "I do not expect you to run away. I need you for a business proposition, and I need you healthy and intact. If you cooperate, you will be free to go when I am done with you. Understand?" He stared at her.
Roslyn nodded mutely. "Perfect, your room is this way. There is a human there for you, I expect you to keep it alive, you will get a new human to feed on every month."
"Every month, how long will I be here?" Roslyn exclaimed.
"Until my business with you is done." Russell said with finality.
Roslyn was then lead to her bedroom where she was left alone, well until she turned around. There was a female human sitting on the bed. She was a brunette with large terrified brown eyes. The girl reminded Roslyn of a frightened rabbit, ready to bolt at the first sign of danger.
Trying not to frighten the girl, Roslyn smiled. "Hello," she said.
The girl just stared at her. "What's your name?" Roslyn asked again.
"Sarah," the girl whispered.
"Sarah, that's a beautiful name. Do you know what I am, Sarah?" Roslyn asked patiently.
Sarah nodded fervently. "Are you scared of me?" Roslyn asked again.
Sarah nodded again, this time more hesitantly.
"Okay, well if I have to keep you around for a month for feeding I don't want you to be scared of me. Sarah, I used to be a normal girl, just like you. In fact I'm seventeen, how old are you?"
"I'm twenty-two." Sarah said quietly.
Roslyn smiled encouragingly, "Has a vampire ever fed from you?"
Sarah made a squeak and shut her eyes quickly.
"Alright, obviously you haven't had a very positive experience. If you relax I can make this feel good. I'm going to feed from you either way, if you just relax then we can make this work for the both of us." Roslyn approached the girl on the bed. She made an effort for Sarah to be comfortable, laying the girl back and piling her hair on one side of the pillow. "Shh, just relax," Roslyn soothed. Click, sigh. It had been so long since Roslyn had fed properly.
For the sake of the human, Roslyn bent her head to her neck slowly, she felt the girl cringe, "Love, calm down, I promise it won't hurt." Roslyn then kissed the girls neck, she felt the girl sink into her a little bit, but the tension was still there. Roslyn kept kissing her neck until her teeth pressed against Sarah's skin. The girl breathed in sharply. She took the opportunity and bit into neck. Roslyn gently sucked from Sarah's neck, listening carefully for the girl's heartbeat. As the heartbeat slowed Roslyn let go, she nicked her own finger and rubbed her blood on the neck wound and it healed immediately.
Sarah sighed, her eyes glossed over. "See, I told you it could feel good." Roslyn smirked as she began undressing. "I don't know where you're supposed to sleep?"
"I go down to the basement with the other donors." Sarah explained. "I'll be here ever night until you establish a different routine." She got up form the bed and then swayed out of the door.
Roslyn was still smirking, now at least the girl would be willing. She sprawled out on the bed, her mind now wandering to Eric. Where was he? Why hadn't he called her, she was sure if he had she would know. She rolled onto her side and curled up into the tiniest ball possible, now the tears came, huge gasping sobs. She wanted Eric so bad. Roslyn had never wanted anything so badly in her entire life as a human or a vampire, not even when she had the Black Death had she wished to get better as much as she wished she could be with Eric at the present time. As Roslyn cried all she could hope was that her business with Russell would be done soon.
A/N: I hope you guys enjoyed this! It was kind of a filler chapter, but I needed to establish Roslyn still being "alive" haha
