~Chains being dragged across the floor~
Johanna POV
Peeta and me are walking through the huge mansion silently due to the fact that neither one of us knows what to talk about. I don't particularly like this idea, I mean, what if we get lost? It's not like our classmates will come looking for us.
"So you have the hots for that Katniss girl hey?" I say teasingly as I turn the corner, attempting to make conversation and to end this awkward tension between the two of us.
"Wait-what are you talking about? I-I don't like her, I mean she's extremely beautiful, but I don't think of her in that way" He stumbles over his words and when I turn back to look at him he's got a blush plastered all over his face.
"Yeah right, I saw you staring at her earlier. Don't worry, your secret is safe with me" I pat his arm as he catches up with me
"Ok, am I the only one who thinks this place is extremely out dated? I mean just look at the wallpaper and the furniture!" The walls are a rich burgundy color with black and gold roses. In some parts it's beginning to peel and has a gold trim that's beginning to have the paint rubbed off it but other than that it looks fine.
The long narrow tables have layers of dust piled upon them and the dead flowers in the cracking vases don't help the scene either. The hard wood floors haven't been polished for years or swept it seems. Huge cracks allow you to see right down to the floor below and make eerie noises as you walk on it. And in some places, dated, moth eaten rugs line the floor.
Every now and then you see suits of armor beside doorways and they freak me out so much that I can't stand to be near one for too long.
The dim lighting isn't helping the eerie feeling and I seem to be on edge at all times.
"Woo, is it just me or is it getting extremely hot in here?" Peeta says as he wipes sweat off his forehead. I shake my head no and roll up the sleeves of my shirt.
"We must be getting close to the furnace or something" I say as I breath heavily. Peeta reaches for the doorknob and immediately retracts his hand screaming in pain. He's holding his hand in his other and I notice it's a shining red. Then I look at the door, smoke is protruding between the doorframe, there's a fire in that room.
I grab Peeta's arm and pull him back as I step backwards. Suddenly the wooden door erupts in flames, sending sparks everywhere. I let out a scream as I start to make a run for the exit. I hear Peeta's heavy footsteps behind me and soon enough he's running alongside me. I look back and notice that the old rugs are beginning to catch flame. I scream as I turn the corner.
It's getting incredibly hot and the smoke is making it harder to breath. I bring my shirt up to my nose as I continue to run. I trip on one of the rugs and fall hard onto my stomach. I groan as the air has been winded from my lungs and I try to push myself up with my hands. I let out a strangled cry as a horrible pain shoots through my one wrist.
Peeta rushes back to me and helps me to my feet. The fire is quickly engulfing anything flammable and rushing with great speed towards us. I begin to cough as Peeta and I continue to run through the twisting, dark corridors. Peeta leads me up a spiral staircase as the flames leap at my ankles.
Peeta and I reach the top of the tower and I collapse onto the hay-covered ground. A single bed lays to one side of the small room as well as a table, knocked over chair and an armoire. A few rusty tin dishes sit on the decaying table and a sole window sits patiently high up near the roof.
Peeta drags the chair under the window and climbs onto it and strains to look out the window. Just then the flames pop out of the staircase, closing me and Peeta into the small room.
Ok, I know this was short, but I wanted to put this up since I told you that i was going to post a chapter before I left, but I didn't have time. Please tell me your opinions and ideas :D
