"Your mothers? Dodger, no. I..cant accept this. Doesnt this mean so much to you?" Carmen searched deeply in the unique blue eyes of the sheriff, looking for an answer.

"Yes, it does a lot. And its the reason why I'm giving it to you." "Carmen..." Dodger came into the short blond's personal space. It made the smaller woman light-headed, inhaling the deputy's earthy intoxicating scent. "I'm not really that good, um, expressing how I feel, with words. By giving you my most prized possession, I'm letting you know how much you mean to me. Besides, it looks so much better on you than it would on me." Dodger chuckles, then locked eyes with the short blond, giving a crooked smile.

"Oh Dodger!" Carmen threw her arms around the taller woman. "Thank you so much. No one has ever been so real or truthful to me before, without wanting something in return. But..." As she planted herself back down, she couldn't look her new lover in the eyes. She had so much guilt.

"But what hunny?" The sheriff had to coax the little blonde to finish what she started.

"I have something to tell you, something that you'll hate me for and take every sweet thing you said about me back." Carmen tried to hold back her tears but finally being in love and the possibility of loosing it all in the same day can make even the strongest of hearts weep. She was about to confess what she'd been on the run from until she felt a hand under her chin, lifting it up gently.

Green looked full of sorrow into blues. They weren't filled with anger or disappointment as she expected, just genuine concern and care. The next words out of Dodger's mouth were too much for her.

"I know and it's okay."

The sheriff was thankful for her fast reflexes because before she knew it, her and the blonde were on the floor Dodger had Carmen cradled in her lap, rocking her slowly until her sobs subsided. She softly comforted her, saying the mantra over again in the blonde's ear. Shhh...don't worry...it'll be okay...we'll figures something out.

A half hour had passed before Carmen had gotten herself together. She sniffed and wiped her eyes. She hadn't noticed she was in the sheriff's strong arms. "Oh gosh. I'm so sorry I..I lost it." She started to get up but Dodger held on to her. Carmen didn't object and settled back into her sanctuary.

After a few minutes of silence, Carmen spoke. "So, um...what all do you know?"

Dodger took in a deep breath and slowly exhaled. "Well everything. From you being a wanted woman to the little stunt you pulled on you ex-bofriend." Dodger ended with a raised eye brow.

"Ohh..." Carmen groaned. "How'd you find out?" The blonde shot back a sculpted brow.

"Hmm...let's just say a big fat birdie landed on my driveway this morning. Told me everything and that I have three days to hand you over to the state authorities and if I don't, they'll come get you themselves." A flash of worry ran across the usually stoic woman.

Carmen panicked and scrambled out of Dodger's lap. She stared down at the woman on the floor. "Well, you gonna turn me in or what?" She said as she put her hands on her hips.

The sheriff's bones creaked and cracked while getting up from the floor. Carmen's eyes followed the lanky woman. A lump got caught in her throat, unsure of the law a bidding officer's next actions. Dodger calmly put on her black cowboy hat and turned around and gave a wicked smile,"No lil' lady. We're going for a ride!"

Carmen was all sorts of confused as her eyes tried to keep up with Dodger's fast paced pacing. "Wh..what do you mean go for a ride?!"

The sheriff answered her without loosing momentum, gathering belongings, "You know, a ride. Me and you on Lady. Going no where special as long as it's not here. Don't worry, Speedy's comin' too." She flashed a smile.

Carmen couldn't wrap her head around the idea of going on the lam with a member of the law. She reached out to stop the road runner of an officer. "Dodger...stop. You can't just leave everything behind because of me. I don't want you ruining your career over nothing special." The smaller woman whispered out.

Dodger's excitement quickly turned over into seriousness. She almost scolded the blonde, "Carmen, hush that. You are everything but nothing to me. I can't let them take you without a fight. Besides, it's been awhile since I've had a vacation anyway." She grinned big.

She couldn't help but smile back. "Ash?" Carmen swaggered up to Dodger.

Blue eyes followed swaying hips, "Hmm?"

*Smooch* "Thank you, for everything." She couldn't help the smile that crept onto her face.

"Anytime Darlin'. I'm not gonna lose someone I love again. I refuse." She started to get choked up at the thought of her dad passing. She fought it back, "Ahem, now help me pack some stuff for the road and get everything squared away and lock up. We might not be comin' back for awhile."

Carmen started putting things away and packing essentials for the both of them. She knew what they were doing was wrong but she felt so good, that she started humming.

Dodger felt all warm hearing her partner happily humming, they fit like the perfect boot. "Oh honey?" She called out, "Grab Speedy's dog food, it's in the wash room."

"The wash room? Why that sly dog knew I wouldn't look there." Carmen thought and chuckled to herself. She felt odd that she didn't feel scared, like she should. Maybe it was the adrenaline pumping through her veins or maybe it was love.
