The next day, Becky & Bob sat on the couch in the Lorraine living room. After she had gotten up, Helen had told her that she had a plan to nab the Butcher, although she wouldn't elaborate on it. So, Becky waited while the girl got ready, hoping the plan would work.

Bob chattered something to her; "I don't know what she has planned either Bob, but Helen has proven to be a valuable ally here, so I trust her judgment."

The monkey responded with another query;"I don't know Bob, I'm not really sure visiting Curious George is feasible." Bob chattered an angry response; "yes, I know he's a monkey too, but…"

"Okay, I'm all ready," Helen's voice broke through the argument.

Becky turned to the hallway and found Helen there, flanked by her dogs. However, the redhead had changed from her usual attire; the purple sweater was still there, but the girl now wore blue jeans and black shoes. In addition, she had tied her hair into two large pigtails and had black glasses, with no lenses, on her face.

"What's with the new look?" Becky asked.

"This is my 'Heroic Helen' look," Helen explained "it's based off the character from the Curious Crystal Capers, my favorite series of mystery books. I figured since we were going to be stopping a bad guy, I might as well look the part."

"If you say so," Becky replied "now mind letting me in on this plan of yours?"

"I'll tell you on the way," Helen said, as she headed off.

"On the way to where? Where are we going?" Becky asked, as she and Bob followed.

The group made their way down the streets of Wagstaff City with Becky more confused than ever.

"I appreciate you wanting to help me nab the Butcher, but I think we really should've talked about this first," Becky told Helen.

"Relax, I have no doubt that this plan will succeed."

"Speaking of, you want to fill me in on this?"

"Oh, of course," Helen said "since the Butcher is a criminal, I figure he'll want to rob some place with a lot of money."

"Obviously"

"That's why I'm taking you to Grimbles; it's the biggest department store in all of Wagstaff City. It's too tempting of a target for a guy like the Butcher. Then, when he shows up to rob it, you can nab him."

"Oh, I hate Grimbles!" Martha whined "they don't let dogs in there."

"I'm sorry Martha," Helen told her "but hey, how about you and Skits keep an eye out for the Butcher, and if he tries to escape, you can stop him."

"Now that's my kind of plan!" Martha said happily, with Skits barking something in return "Skits wants to know if we can eat any of his meat."

"Sure, the less meat he has for attacking, the better," Becky replied.

"Maybe this day won't be so bad after all," Martha said.

After a few minutes, the gang arrived at Grimbles. Martha & Skits had to stay outside, and Becky made Bob stay with them as well, as she didn't know if the store had a "no monkey" policy, and didn't want to get in trouble.

"Wow, this definitely looks like a place the Butcher would hit," Becky said, surveying the various aisles of merchandise "clever thinking Heroic Helen."

"Thanks," Helen said, "now we just sit and wait."

"Hey Helen"

"Oh, hi TD" Helen replied.

"Who's your friend?"

"This is Becky Botsford," Helen explained "she's visiting our town, so I'm letting her stay with me for a few days."

"That's neat," TD replied, not all that interested "hey, I heard on the news that the meat man struck again."

"I think he's called 'the Butcher', but yes, I heard that too," Helen agreed.

"Looks like I was right, there is a guy with meat powers in Wagstaff City," TD said proudly "I hope I can meet him; maybe he'll tell me how he got his powers and I can get my own. Then I can make meat whenever I want!"

"Somehow, I don't think that will happen," Helen told him.

"Why do you have to ruin my dreams?" TD asked her.

"Your dream is to be able to create meat?" a confused Becky asked.

"Sure, isn't everyone's?" TD replied.

"I should've warned you about TD, he can be a little… well, weird," Helen said in a low voice.

Before Becky could respond, she heard the doors open, and noticed the Butcher was coming inside.

"Hey, he did come!" TD said happily "I'm gonna go meet him."

"No you're not!" Helen said, grabbing his collar "you and I are going to find somewhere to hide. Shouldn't you go hide too Becky?" Helen added, jabbing her friend in the chest lightly with her shoulder

"Oh yes, hide; that is what I will go do now," Becky said, in a very unconvincing voice before running off.

"Guess it's just you and me then," TD said.

Meanwhile, the Butcher had approached the checkout lane.

"Can I help you sir?" the clerk asked, rather taken aback by the man wearing raw meat.

"Yes, I will take all of the money in your cash register," the Butcher answered politely.

"I'm sorry, what?"

"You heard me. Hand over the money."

"You're not stealing anything, Butcher!"

"WordGirl?" Butcher asked, turning around to see her flying nearby "how'd you find me?"

"Well, this is one of the biggest stores in the city, so I knew it would only be a matter of time before you hit it," she replied.

"Yeah, well you're not gonna stop me from robbing the place. Porkchop…"

"Actually, could we maybe take this outside?" WordGirl asked "there's a lot of stuff in here and I don't want it to get damaged."

"Oh yeah, good idea," Butcher replied, following his nemesis out the sliding door.

"Sounds like they're going to have a fight outside, no way am I missing that!" TD said, running after them.

"TD, hold on, come back!" Helen shouted, chasing after her friend.

"Look Butcher, we both know how this is going to happen," WordGirl told him "you shoot some meat at me, I avoid it, then I wrap you up and take you to prison. So why don't you just make it easy on yourself and give up now."

"Not happening WordGirl; porkchop chop!"

Of course, WordGirl easily sidestepped the attack. "Okay, now it's my turn" she said determinedly.

"Hey, Mr. meat person!" she heard T.D. call. She turned around and found the blonde boy heading towards them.

"Citizen, what are you doing? We're kind of in the middle of something here."

"Yeah yeah," TD said, not interested "hey it's great to finally meet you up close. Get it, 'meet', because you use meat."

"Uh, are you talking to me?" the Butcher wondered.

"Sure am," TD replied "hey, I was wondering, how do you do that whole 'meat out of your hands' thing, and if you could teach it to me."

"Sorry kid, but I was born with it," the Butcher told him.

"Aw man! There goes my dream of making meat."

"All right then, so if you just move so I can…" WordGirl began.

"Well, do you think I could have your autograph?" TD asked.

"What? Why would you want his autograph, he's a villain!" WordGirl exclaimed.

"Yeah, but he has cool meat powers," TD said "I've never met anyone who could do that before."

"Is that like a car, 'cause I don't have one of those."

"No, an autograph is a signature that a famous person gives to a fan," WordGirl explained.

"Oh. Sure I can give you one of those autotune things," Butcher said, grabbing a piece of paper and pencil from his smock. "Okay to…what's you name kid?"

"TD."

"To TD, um… stay in school, or whatever; your pal, the Butcher," he finished "there ya go."

"Thanks Mr. the Butcher!" TD said excitedly "I'm gonna hang this over my bed."

"Now that we've gotten that out of the way, maybe we can get back to…"

"Hamburger hurricane!"

WordGirl soon found herself covered under a large pile of meat as the Butcher made his escape.

"Seriously, again?!" she shouted, after popping her head from under the pile "this day could not possibly get any more embarrassing."

"Check it out Skits, free meat!" Martha said, before she and the brown dog jumped unto the pile and began devouring to their hearts content.

"I stand corrected."

"TD why did you lose me in the aisles?" Helen asked, finally making it out of the store, " I told you to..." then she noticed WordGirl in the pile of meat, her dogs happily chewing away, "ooh, I'm guessing things did not go well."

"No, they did not."

Later that day, Becky & Helen watched the news which covered the story.

"Earlier today, the mysterious thief calling himself 'the Butcher' struck at Grimbles, making off with a large amount of cash," the reporter said "the city's new superhero, 'WordGirl', who appeared around the same time, did little to stop him, and ended up defeated, making people wonder if she really is a help to the city or not."

File footage showed WordGirl getting flattened by the hamburger hurricane, and of Martha & Skits happily jumping unto the pile and eating their fill.

"Check it out Skits, we're on TV," Martha said happily. Skits barked in agreement.

"Oh, I'll never live this down; I'm a laughing stock!" Becky said, putting her head in her hands, as Bob put his arm around her to console her.

"No you're not," Helen told her "you'll catch the Butcher. You have to; the police haven't been able to stop him, and if you don't, he'll just keep robbing Wagstaff City blind."

"You're right!" Becky said, her confidence returning "I need to capture the Butcher and restore my reputation. If only I had some clue as to where he could be hiding."

"You can count on Heroic Helen and her faithful dog Sparky to help you," Helen told her.

"Actually, faithful dog Sparky needs to take a nap to work off all that meat she just ate," Martha explained.

"Fine, go ahead," Helen told her, before turning to Becky "come on, let's check the map again."

Soon the two girls and one monkey looked over the map. Becky decided to try Flea Island and flew out there to check it out. While she was gone, Helen started giving the map another look.

The Butcher has to be hiding out where no one in Wagstaff City would think to look for him, she thought Flea Island is big, but people visit there often, and someone might see him. No, it'd have to be somewhere almost no one ever goes. But where? I mean, it's not like Wagstaff City just has places lying around for criminals to…

It was then that something popped into the redhead's brain.

Of course! It's so obvious, why didn't I think of it before? I've got to tell Becky! Oh wait, she's off at Flea Island, and who knows when she'll be back. And I'm not exactly sure that he's there either; what if I tell her, then we go there, and he's gone? She'll be even more embarrassed. I know, I'll go check it out, just to be sure. And I know just who to bring with me too.

"Mom, I'm going downtown for a few minutes!" Helen called out.

"Well do not take too long, dinner will be ready soon," Mariela told her "also, I wish to speak with your friend Becky when she returns."

"Sure mom," Helen said, writing down a note for Becky. Then she got on her bike and pedaled off.

About 5 minutes later…

"Why are we here again?" Carolina asked, as they stood outside the old warehouse.

"Because I think this is where that Butcher guy might be hiding out," Helen explained to her cousin "and, if I'm right, then WordGirl can capture him. Don't you want an interview with her for Carolina's Town Crier?"

"Yeah, but I also don't want to sit outside an old rotting building."

"Don't worry, we won't be out here long," Helen told her "just until I see if the Butcher is here."

The girl tried to look inside, but the windows were too high. "Give me a boost," she told her cousin.

"I better get a mucho bien story out of this," Carolina whined as she cupped her hands, allowing Helen to climb up in them.

"Almost…there," Helen said.

"Hey, what are you two girls doing?" asked someone from nearby.

"Oh, I'm sorry; we just wanted to peek inside sir," Helen said, not seeing the person "we're sorry to have…" she continued, turning around to see who was addressing her, causing her to gasp with fright "the Butcher!"

"Well, if you two wanted to look inside so badly, you should have just said so," the Butcher said "sausage cyclone!"

Looks like Helen & Carolina have gotten themselves into a little trouble; what will happen next for them? In the final chapter, Becky & Martha race to the rescue after Becky learns where the Butcher has been staying, which I'm sure most of you have probably figured out by now.
