While Helen was getting in trouble with the Butcher, Becky & Bob arrived back at the Lorraine household.
"Well that was a bust," she said "although we did get some good souvenirs" she added, showing off her official Flea Island t-shirt & hat
Bob chattered something at her "no Bob, I don't know if the legends about Big Minnie are true," she replied "and we don't have time to find out. We need to find the Butcher before he strikes again. I wonder if Helen found anything out while we were gone."
Becky & Bob headed to the living room, but were stopped by Mariela.
"Hi Mrs. Lorraine, um, is something wrong?"
"You tell me," the Latina woman said, "I called the phone number you gave me for sus padres, your parents, and it was disconnected."
"Well, they're probably having some trouble with their phones, you know how it is," Becky replied as quickly as she could.
"I suppose you are right...WordGirl," Mariela replied.
Becky gulped nervously "let me guess, Helen told you?"
"No, I was watching the news the other day and saw a report on the new superhero in town," Mariela explained "I noticed that the two of you looked exactly alike, and knew it couldn't be una coincidencia."
"I really need to start wearing a mask."
"Anyway, I am not happy you lied to me," the woman continued "you should've told me the truth right away."
"Would you have believed me if I did?"
"Si; I have seen many extrano, strange things in my life, why not a superhero with an advanced vocabulario?"
"Thank you for understanding," Becky told her "and thank you for your hospitality. I won't be here much longer, just until I apprehend the Butcher."
"And how much longer do you think that will take?"
"Hopefully not too long," Becky replied "Helen was helping me to try and locate where he might be holed up. Speaking of which, where is she?"
"She went out, not long after you left," Mariela recalled "she said she was going downtown, but she didn't say why. You don't think it has anything to do with el Carnicero, the Butcher, do you?"
"I sure hope not," Becky replied.
"I will call Danny, perhaps he has seen her on his route," the woman said, heading to the kitchen.
Becky meanwhile, headed over towards the map, when she noticed a note nearby; she quickly scanned it and her worst fears were realized.
"Oh, this is bad Bob!" she told him "according to this note, Helen thinks she knows where the Butcher is, and she went there to look for him. She could be in trouble!"
Just then, Martha wandered in "hi Becky, glad to see ya," she said "is Helen around, 'cause I'm hungry."
"I think she may be in trouble!" Becky told the dog.
"Trouble? What do you mean?" Martha asked.
Becky showed her the note; "yeah, I'm a dog; I may be able to talk, but I still can't read" she explained.
"Oh," Becky noted "well, it says that Helen may have located the Butcher and set out to find him. She says he's in some warehouse downtown, but she doesn't give many more details."
"Hmm, I think I know where she's talking about," Martha said "and if it is that place, then you're right!"
"Then lead the way!" Becky shouted "word up!"
Meanwhile, back at the warehouse, Helen & Carolina had just been finished being tied to chairs with sausages.
"I hope these are sanitary," Helen said, disgusted.
"Hey! I realize tying people up with sausages isn't a normal thing, but it doesn't mean I'm crazy," the Butcher told her.
"No, you're thinking of 'sanity,'" Helen explained "I said 'sanitary'; that means something is clean and free of germs or bacteria."
"Then you got nothing to worry about," Butcher told her "I always keep my meat clean."
"W-w-what are you going to do with us?" Helen asked nervously.
"I haven't decided yet," Butcher said "maybe I'll keep one of you as a hostage for when I get out of here."
"How about instead, you untie us and let us go?" Carolina suggested.
"Sorry, but you two will have to stay around for a while," said a bald man in a green suit with black shoes & shirt and a light blue necktie "I can't have you ruining our meal ticket."
"Say Otis, isn't one of those girls the one that owns the talking dog?" said another man, with two tufts of orange hair, wearing a lab coat, a red & white striped shirt, and blue pants with black shoes "I've never understood why we've never captured her and used her to help us get the dog."
"Bite your tongue Pablum!" Otis said "we may be disreputable, untrustworthy, no good, sneaky, low down, despicable, rotten crooks, but kidnapping a little girl? Even we have standards."
"Lucky me," Helen replied sarcastically.
"Anyway, don't worry Butcher, that WordGirl will never find you," Otis told him "which means you can continue to rob the city, and give us a cut of what you steal. Think of it as paying a fee to stay in a hotel."
"Except we don't have anything that a hotel has," Pablum reminded him "we have no free soaps, no TV, no shower, no continental breakfast…"
"Pablum!"
"Hey that's okay, it was nice of you guys to let me stay here while I was in town," Butcher told them "I'm happy ta give youse a cut of my loot."
"And we are very happy to receive it," Otis added.
"Anyways, thanks for all your hospital," Butcher added "oh, and sorry for what I did in your bathroom."
"We don't have a bathroom," Pablum told him.
"Really? Uh, then you might wanna avoid that room down on the far end," Butcher told him.
"Perfectly all right," Otis told him "we were going to clean that room anyway."
"We were?" a confused Pablum asked.
"Oh, okay then," Butcher replied "yup, this has been real sweet; I can't believe I've actually been running circles around WordGirl. She must be going crazy looking for me."
Suddenly, the door to the warehouse burst open; "It's over Butcher!" WordGirl exclaimed.
"WordGirl? How'd you find me?"
"I had a little help from one of my new friends," the heroine explained, flying aside to reveal Martha & Skits.
"Martha, Skits!" Helen exclaimed happily.
"Helen thank goodness you're okay," Martha said "and covered in sausages!"
"Surrender, you're going back to jail."
"That's what you think," Butcher said, running over to Helen and placing one of his hands near her head "take one step closer and the girl gets it."
"Um, is that really a threat?" Helen asked "you only shoot meat from your hands."
"You ever have a pot roast come at you at point blank range?" Butcher asked her.
"Good point," a nervous Helen replied.
"Let the girl go, Butcher,"
"Forget it WordGirl, she's my ticket out of here," Butcher said "now you back off, or she gets it."
WordGirl was unsure what to do; she didn't think the Butcher could hurt Helen with his meat powers, but she didn't want to take that chance.
"Good girl," Butcher said, grabbing the chair Helen was tied to "now me and the girl here are taking a little trip. And you'd better not follow us."
"Oh no you don't!" Martha exclaimed "get him Skits!"
The two dogs jumped unto the Butcher, knocking him down, and allowing him to lose his grip on his hostage.
"Well done, you two!" WordGirl replied.
"Hey, get off me you stupid mutts!" Butcher yelled "let's see how you like this; pastrami attack!"
"Mmmm, thanks for the pastrami" Martha said, as she and Skits enjoyed the tasty projectiles.
"Okay, try this on for size; hamburger hammer!"
"Wow, hamburger too!" Martha said, as she harmlessly ate the meat "Oh, I am gonna be super stuffed today."
"I don't get it, why aren't my attacks working on them?"
"Because they're dogs, and they love meat," WordGirl reminded him.
"Yeah, well let's see how you like it; hamalanche!"
However, WordGirl simply held up Captain Huggy Face, who proceeded to devour the large wave of ham.
"You forgot about Huggy, and he's mighty hungry," WordGirl told him "so do your worst."
"Yeah, well I'll…" Butcher stalled, until he saw a way out. Rushing over to the still captive Carolina, he grabbed her chair.
"Hey!" the young Latina shouted, as Butcher attempted to make his escape with her.
"So long WordGirl," Butcher said, as he made for the door.
"Oh no you don't!" WordGirl replied. Zooming over to a large amount of cable on the floor, she then zipped over to the fleeing villain and wrapped him up, then effortlessly retrieved his hostage.
"Oh, gracias WordGirl!" Carolina said "do you think by any chance I could interview you for my newspaper?"
"I don't think that will be a problem," WordGirl told her, then turned to the captive Butcher "and as for you Butcher, you're going back to jail, and I'm going to return all the stuff you stole."
"Now, let's not be hasty, odd flying pajama wearing girl," Otis told her.
"I'm sorry, and who are you?"
"Me? Why I'm just a concerned and innocent citizen," Otis lied "I honestly had no idea that this Butcher was a convicted criminal when I let him stay here. But don't worry, I'll see to it that all of the things he stole are returned to where they belong."
"Don't listen to him, he's a crook too," Helen said.
"That little girl, who I've never seen in my life, has no idea what she's talking about," Otis continued "I'm just an honest man, running this warehouse as a halfway house for homeless people to stay if they need a place to rest their head."
"Really? I thought this was our base for our various criminal schemes," Pablum reminded him.
"Shut up Pablum," Otis reprimanded under his breath.
"Yeah, I've heard enough," WordGirl said. Taking some more of the cable, she wrapped both crooks up as well.
"Pablum, you idiot!"
"What did I do?"
Meanwhile, Martha finished eating the rest of the sausages that bound Helen to the chair.
"You just ate a whole bunch of pastrami and hamburger, how are you still hungry?" Helen asked.
"I'm a dog, we can always make room for meat," Martha explained.
"Oh Martha," Helen said, hugging her pet.
Soon the police arrived and carted Otis & Pablum off to prison. Since he wasn't from there, Becky made a call to the Fair City police, who sent over a wagon to take the Butcher back to jail. So, with the villain defeated, Becky returned to the Lorraine household to do one more important thing.
"Hey mom & dad it's me," she said over the phone "sorry I've been gone so long, but Violet's slumber party went longer than expected. Yes, I should've called you sooner, I'm sorry about that. No, just usual slumber party activities, nothing really exciting," she lied "anyway, I'll be home soon, love you, bye," she added, before hanging up.
"Well?" Helen asked.
"They were worried when I didn't come home, but Violet covered for me," Becky "still, I as much as I'd like to, I can't spend any more time here."
"I understand," Helen told her "thanks for letting Carolina write an article about you for her paper."
"Glad to do it, but I'm a little worried that the people here might expect WordGirl to solve all of their problems from now on."
Helen chuckled "don't worry, something new will come around in the next few days and everyone will forget all about you. Things sort of have a habit of happening like that around here."
"That's good," Becky replied, before hugging the redhead "thank you for everything; letting me stay here, introducing me to your friends, and even helping me catch the Butcher. Huggy and I are going to miss you."
"Martha and I are going to miss you too," Helen told the girl before she broke the hug.
"Yeah, it was kind of fun to have a superhero around here," Martha added "and though he was a bad guy, it was great to have the Butcher around too; I don't think Skits and I have ever eaten so well."
"Ugh, I don't even want to think about meat again after all this," Helen replied, before turning to her guest "do you think our paths will cross again?"
"Maybe," Becky shrugged "Bob and I might stop by, if we can find the time. You know, it's funny; where I live, most people don't know the definitions of words, and I have to explain them. It's nice to find a place where people already know their definitions."
"Do you think we could come for a visit?" Helen asked.
"Yeah, could we?" Martha asked.
"I don't know, my city is crawling with villains," Becky told them "but maybe; however, make sure you call first."
"Can do," Helen replied.
"Well, farewell to both of you," Becky said "word up!"
Transforming into WordGirl, the girl grabbed Huggy with one arm, and her suitcase with the other, then flew out of the room into the sky. Helen & Martha watched her go, waving goodbye as disappeared into the horizon.
"Well, this has certainly been an 'interesting' couple of days," Helen said after the heroes were no longer visible.
"You said it," Martha told her "I'm ready to have things go back to normal, or what passes for normal around here, anyway."
"Me too," Helen said "after all this excitement, I could use a break. You wanna go outside and play a game of fetch?"
"Like you have to ask," Martha replied, and ran downstairs after her owner, both hoping to gain some normalcy after the grand adventure they'd been on.
