"I still can't believe he's dead." Fionna says shakily.
"I know, I can't either." Says Marshall, obviously less affected.
"What do we do now?"
"I don't know, Fi. Get on with our lives? make preparations for the baby?" He suggests.
"I guess. Wow, only about a month now, huh?" she says fearfully, still angry Marshall didn't let her know about when her due date was.
"Around there." He sighed. He looked over to his wife, her face was veiled with worry. "Are you okay, babe?" he asks. Her face shoots up, slapping on a fake smile.
"Of course. Why wouldn't I be?" Her eyes droop to the carpet floor, just staring.
"You look so... empty." He sounds concerned.
"I'm just worried. About the future." She winces.
"You'll be a great mother." He looks at her stomach. "Why did you just flinch?"
"Nothing. Just a tiny kick." She bites her lip, pretending to smile. He locks eyes with her until her eyes drift and close, her head falling on the arm of the couch.
"Fionna!" He grabs her in his arms, flying out of the door. "Fionna." His voice is drenched in panic. He looks at the Candy Castle in the distance, so anxious to get closer.
They finally enter the spacious kingdom, shades of pink melting all over. They burst through the infirmary doors, her head lolls to the side. "Please help me," He rushed up to a short doctor, eyes wide in panic. "she just started bleeding a-and then she passed out and I'm scared. Please help." he beseeches.
"Alright, set her down on this gurney and I'll take care of her, don't you worry." She says much more collected compared to Marshall. She wheels the vampire to past the double doors, into room 186. "Nurse Pound Cake, help me with this patient!" She yells. Fionna is still unconscious. Nurse comes in.
"What's wrong with her, Doctor Gumdrop?" She questions, gazing at the dead features. She was already dead, technically, but she looked even worse now. "Oh, dear." She gets panicky.
"Don't be scared now, she could be seriously hurt. She might not make it." She tried to talk low enough for Marshall not to hear, but it didn't work. Nurse Pound Cake's eyes go huge with the pressure of someone's life in her hands.
"I think we should do an ultra sound, right away." DG commands. NP nods obediently. They push the hospital gurney down the hall, into a room with a small television and mysterious wires everywhere. Let's get her set up to an IV" The nurse nods again, pushing the needle gently into her forearm, watching the clear liquid drip. Fionna's eyes start to open, she squints at the harsh lights above her.
"Wha- what happened?" She asks. Marshall sighs in relief but still looks worried.
"Fi, you passed out." He says. "Now we just have to make sure the twins are okay." He smiles down at her, squeezing her hand.
The nurse wrings a tube and warm lotion comes out. The doctor takes an outlandish device and rubs it on her stomach, near where she felt the kick earlier. The image on the tv changes and she sees 2 figures, one slightly bigger than the other.
"Don't worry, honey, it just seems like they are developing a little fast. You should eat more to keep your energy up. Because they'll suck the life out of you" She giggles. "Just make sure to remember you're eating for 3 now, okay? But that should only be from the next 2 weeks. The twins looks quite healthy, almost ready to come out." She grins. Fionna is silent. This is all real.
So much pressure.
