A/N: So this is completely low quality fanfiction. Please do not think this is my best stuff. This is child's play. I just want these two together so badly because of the book 2 finale. Hope you can forgive me.

She wasn't going to lie to herself; sitting in the park waiting for this guy to show up was messing with her head. She showed up at six, just as the sun was setting. She had told him seven. The hour was passing slowly as she drove herself into a tizzy, getting all worried and nervous about him. Would he think of her differently tonight? Would he not want to talk to her? Would he be different? All of these questions and more ran through her head and she sat on the bench in the dark near the fountain, watching her breath steam up the night sky.

Despite the cold, she wore simple clothes; ripped jeans, her favorite leather boots with fur trim, a navy blue tank top, and a sleeveless jean vest with attached grey hood. She had her tribal arm band where it normally was and her hair up in signature form. She sat with her arms spread out on the back of the bench and her legs crossed, watching her breath disappear. Maybe he was a shy guy, she thought to herself. Maybe something was different the other night. She was just being a show off and the situation had spiraled out of control. She sighed and checked her phone for the hundredth time. It was 6:56pm. She groaned and leaned her head back, letting the phone lay in her lap. She didn't know if he was the type to show up early, on time, or be fashionably late. Meaning he could show up anywhere between in a few seconds or twenty minutes from now. She closed her eyes and tried to take deep breaths to steady her anxious stomach.

"Korra?" A smooth voice called out. She pulled her head up and saw a man standing near the fountain, and in an officer uniform no less. She rolled her eyes and put her head back.

"Officer, I'm not loitering, I'm waiting for someone." She said, not getting a good look at his face. She was used to being harassed by the police, ever since her first day in republic city.

"I know, it's me." He said and she jerked her head up and looked at him again. He took off his hat and held it in his hands, fiddling with the brim. She stood up to walk to him but her phone fell from her lap and crashed onto the bricks below, breaking in two.

"Ah crap…" She said and bent down to pick up the pieces of her now broken phone. She stood back up and he was at her side, she hadn't even heard him walk up. She held the pieces in each hand and he smiled.

"Don't worry, the cover just came off." He said and took the two pieces from her, making them one again with some force and a click of the hard casing. He held it out for her to take and she took it, hesitating to look at his face. She took in his uniform, his badge, his hat that was tucked under his arm now, the bars on his lapel. Slowly she made her way up to his face and indeed it was the same man from the other night. She smiled, caught in his gaze instantly.

"Hello." She said, not sure of what to say.

"Hello." He mirrored, taking his hat from under his arm and holding it in his hand. They stood there smiling at each other for a while before she spoke again.

"Look-"

"Please, let me say something?" He stopped her and she nodded and bit her lip. "The other night… I go there a lot because it's so loud it just helps me forget my day. I don't usually drink. Not like I did the other night. I had had a lot of sake. And I don't want you to think I'm some guy I'm not. I don't confront girls. I don't dance."

"Don't you?" She asked and put her hand on her hips. He tried to resist the smile that was tugging at his lips. "Your moves were not exactly armature."

"I mean I don't dance at places like that." He looked to the ground and rubbed the back of his neck with his free hand. "I just… have a lot of walls that were put down that night."

"It's okay." She said quietly, letting her hands fall limp at her sides. "I am not sure how I came across… but I am sure it wasn't exactly sweet."

He looked up to her and smiled. "Actually you came across fine. A little bold, but I now know that is something of a signature for you."

"What does that mean?" She asked with her arms were folded under her chest.

"Um… I had a few days of work before I called you and I pulled your file…" He said and looked back to the ground.

"You- You pulled my police record?!" She almost yelled. What kind of guy does that, she wondered.

"I know- it was a total invasion of your privacy and I am so sorry. I was just really nervous to meet you again and I just wanted to know what you were all about. I wasn't look through it to judge you, I just wanted to know more about you. To prepare myself."

"Why? What makes me so scary?" She asked, waving an arm in the air before her.

"Well… I just- I didn't know… I didn't figure out you were the Avatar until after you left. And I didn't know what to do." He said and look to her, a little ashamed of himself.

"You are some kind of guy." She said and shook her head a little bit. "So you can dance with a girl, but it takes you two days to call the Avatar?"

"Look, can we just start over please?"

"Can we?" She asked, intrigued by the idea.

"Yes. Just let's make a quick stop at my place so I can get out of this uniform and then I'll take you out. Anywhere but Kwong's."

"Back to your place? Um… I'm not sure what kind of girl you think I am-"

"No! Spirits no! It's not like that. I just really shouldn't be going out in my uniform. And my brother lives with me so it's not like we will be alone." He said and put his hat on. he held a hand out for her. "Will you come?"

She hesitated and bit her lip. She thought about everything she had imagined him to be and overall was not disappointed. He was nice, handsome, and a little bit shy. She liked him for some reason. Korra nodded and took his gloved hand, letting him lead her out of the park.

"Aren't you cold? It's at least 25 our here. You're dressed like it's fall."

"No, I like the cold. Reminds me of home." She said and blew into the air, watching the steam again. Besides, your car has a heater, right?" She said as they exited the park, walking towards a line of cars.

"Not exactly." He chuckled as they stopped a motorcycle that had all the markings and lights of the RCPD. He took off his hat and put it on her head, grabbing his helmet.

"Really? A motorcycle?" She said with a small laugh.

"Yes." He said as he adjusted the strap under his chin, swinging a slender leg over the seat and sitting down, swiping the kickstand up and taking out the keys from his coat. The engine sputtered to life and he gripped the throttle, giving it a few twists to rev the engine, getting it warm. He put it in neutral and backed the bike up, getting in prime position to pull away into the night. "Are you nervous?" He turned to her and asked over the sound of the spinning cylinders.

"No way!" She said and pushed his hat down onto her head further. She climbed on the back and put her feet on the pegs, wrapping her arms around his torso loosely. "Let's go, Officer Mako!"

He smiled and let out a small laugh, shifting into first gear and twisting the throttle as they sped off into the night towards his shared apartment.
