Chapter 5

Accidental Bump in the Park

Can you actually believe having two chapter up in the same day! Feedback is great and if you have any ideas on what I should include or what you want to happen then PM me or leave a review!

I knew it was too good to be true. I try to come up with words to say but they keep getting stuck in my throat. No matter what was going through my head. I knew I have to stay for dinner and I now know what Kathy meant by the conversation she and I just had.

I cleared my throat and look at everyone in the room while I decide on what to say. "Hi Elliot." That's the best I can do under these circumstances. I then walk right over to the seat next to Nick and took it while the kids tried their best to break the tension in the room.

"Hey, Liv. How about you introduce us to that hot partner of yours." I should have known Maureen would say something like that about him.

"Alright, Nick this is Maureen, Kathleen, Lizzie, Dickie and Elliot. In the other room is Kathy. Where is Eli?" I ask the children.

"He is in the other room waiting on mom." Dickie responds to me while looking down at his plate. I knew he does that when he is nervous about something.

"Ohh okay." Are the only words I came up with to respond to Dickie. I look at Nick and gave him a reinsurance look even though I have no idea how the rest of the night will turn out.

"Everyone ready to eat?" Kathy asks as she walks. Seeing the look on the three girls I know they are just as nervous as everyone else is in the room.

While everyone is digging in their food no one said a word. Dickie looked as if he has something to say but decided against. Elliot must have saw his kid hesitate. "What do you want to say, Dickie?" Elliot asks him.

"Well there is something I want to ask. How long are you staying in town for Dad?" Dickie asks but kept his eyes on his own plate.

"Son, I'm not sure how long. But, I am staying until the end of this weekend." Dickie look at his father and just nodded his head. It seems to me Elliot is not around his children much often which leaves way too many questions left for me to ask but not one is going to asked by me at least.

"Hey, dad why made you come to New York in the first?" Kathleen asked with an edge to her voice. Right when she put the attitude in her question it was time for Nick and I to leave.

"Hey, Nick do you think we should head out now? It is getting late." I asked him in a low wispher not realizing Kathy, who was sitting next to me to hear me ask him.

Nick only nodded at me. "I think its best Liv and I head out. It is getting late and I want to say goodnight to my daughter. Thanks for dinner, Kathy." Nick started to get up from the table and Olivia followed suit.

"Olivia, can you stay a bit longer? I can always drive you home." I honestly did not know what to say to get out of this one.

"Kathy, honestly I just want to go home. I need to be up early for work." Nick nodded as I explained this to her. She did the same but I knew she did not like my answer but knew she would have accepted it.

"Alright, have a safe trip home. I'll call you later. We do need to stay in touch." As I left the room I knew this was not going to be easy to stay out of contact with Kathy or her family. The odd thing was Elliot did not talk to me after his greeting which means that will be the first and last time I see him again. After all he told Dickie he's only staying until the end of this weekend.

As I put the keys in the ignition I knew there's something nagging on Nick. With the way he kept looking anywhere but at me. "Did you want to stay? Because if you did we could go back in there." I say to him hoping that is not the problem at all.

"No, Liv. It is just hard to see that family in there while my family is broken." I now see the problem but I see there are a few problems with his statement.

"Nick I am only going to tell you once. That family in there is broken. Kathy and Elliot are divorce and what I saw at that table is Elliot has not been around for a while. I don't know why he decides now to show up but Kathy put it to herself to have you and I come along for some reason. One I don't intend to find out." I say to Nick while I drive out of the Stabler driveway. This also should be the last time I come to this house.

"Liv, can I just crash on your couch tonight? I hope that is not a lot to ask. I just don't want to go home and see what is left of Maria. At least I get to have Zara next week." Nick pleaded with me. I didn't have a problem so I look at Nick then nodded to let him know.

This would not be the first time I let him crash at my place but it is the first time for him to ask me. The last two times I invited him to stay since we were supposed to be at the precinct early in the morning.

On the way to my apartment, the ride was quiet but the silence didn't make it an uncomfortable drive back. I just hope my life would stay the way it is now because if it change a bit then there would be a problem with me not being in control.
