I pulled Harry and Ginny behind a cupboard. I felt the Invisibility Cloak flow past us, as we passed by.
"Where are we?"
"We are in the Entrance Hall… we need to follow those five."
"What? Amber, you're kind of vague." I resigned myself. I pulled out the necklace, and showed it to them.
"This is a Time-Turner. With it, I can repeat hours over. This is how I've been taking multiple lessons simultaneously."
"They gave you a time machine to help you take more subjects than you should?"
"Harry, we can stand here discussing the space-time continuum, or we can go do what we came here to do."
"Which is what?"
"This is three hours ago. Dumbledore instructed me to come to this time specifically. Clearly something happened that shouldn't have…"
"Amber, the other us are going to Hagrid's…"
"That's it, Ginny! More than one innocent life may be spared! We have to rescue Buckbeak, and then we can save Sirius using Buckbeak!"
"If we can pull that off, it'll be a miracle!"
"We have to try. And remember the first rule of time-travel: we can't be seen."
We went around to Hagrid's hut.
"Go, before they see you leave!" Hagrid called. We came just in time. We hid in the trees as we passed, and I observed the meeting in the hut.
"Ah, hello, Hagrid. Sorry business, sorry business…"
"Hello, Minister."
I heard Harry knock over a pumpkin as he approached Buckbeak. Praying that he would succeed, I was making sure that he wouldn't suddenly be spotted.
"The condemned's execution was taken place at sundown, witnessed by the following: Hagrid, sign here."
*CAW*
"Harry, shush!"
"It's harder than it looks."
"Buckbeak, come get some nice dead ferret!"
"Minister, I believe I should sign too," Dumbledore said.
Buckbeak had finally stood, but was taking too long picking his way through the fields.
"Your name only."
"It is a very long name."
Buckbeak made it into the trees! Yes! But… I was still here. I rushed as fast as I could, hurriedly Disillusioning myself. I felt the raw egg sensation, knowing that it the transformation may be slightly slower because I was moving, but worried all the same.
It was tremendously lucky Dumbledore had the group looking in the opposite direction.
"We saved Buckbeak! One down, one to go!" Ginny cheered, as soon as we were out of range. I twirled my wand around myself, lifting the Disillusionment and smiling just as hard as the other two.
"But we have to keep an eye on the Whomping Willow. We need to know where Sirius is."
We went around to the Whomping Willow, only to notice that we had already gone under.
"So now we wait," I said, sitting down with my legs tucked under me. Harry and Ginny preferred to lean against a tree… the same tree. I was slightly jealous, but seeing the two of them together always made me smile.
I think I might leave him be…
What are you, nuts? He's the Boy Who Lived! You two aren't the only girls who'll fall for him.
And?
"So, Harry… what did Sirius want to talk about?"
"He wanted to know if I could live with him, as opposed to the Dursleys."
"Aw…"
"How nice, Harry."
We piled out of the Whomping Willow. I should pay more attention to this.
"Diffindo! Glacius! Glacius!"
"Amber, we have to grab Pettigrew!"
"No! Trying to find a rat in this light will be like trying to find a wand in a pile of twigs."
"But, he killed my parents!"
"We have more important things to do. One day, we will find Pettigrew and tear out his other eye, but for now, we have to get to Sirius!"
"He'll be at the Black Lake."
I howled at Lupin. He rushed towards us. I Disillusioned all three of us, and ran us to the lake. I heard Buckbeak giving him a beating on our escape. As an afterthought, I cut his tether and had him follow our steps until I undid the charm.
We arrived at the Black Lake.
"Ginny…" Harry murmured.
"Don't worry, Harry. Your Mom and Dad will be here. They'll save me!"
"Ginny, maybe you're taking your crush on Harry a touch too far."
"No, Amby… they will come!"
"Amby? …Ginny, are you feeling alright? You're looking a little pale…"
Harry smirked. He looked closely at Ginny, before grabbing her hand, and running to the shore.
"Harry, no! You'll get seen!"
"EXPECTO PATRONUM!" Harry called out. From his wand blossomed a four-legged animal, which began charging the Dementors.
"Expecto Patronum!" Ginny echoed, and another four-legged creature issued from her wand, joining the first. After each Dementor escaped from the Patronuses, they pulled a U-turn and came to us.
"Prongs?" Harry asked. A stag and a doe. Of course. The two Patronuses vanished into thin air.
"Harry, Ginny, that was the craziest, riskiest, stupidest, hottest thing you have ever done. And I love you guys for it. But we have to hide now. Someone has to come and rescue Ginny, and then we rescue Sirius."
"Got it, Amber. Wait, what?"
"Oh, just get in there," I insisted, feeling a blush up my cheeks. I Disillusioned myself partially to avoid Harry's gaze.
"So, Ginny… where did he go?"
"I dunno…"
"Harry, you idiot. Snape and Fudge specifically mentioned Flitwick's office."
"Right."
We were riding on Buckbeak, having an argument about how exactly we were going to break a convicted murderer out of our… well, my… favourite teacher's office. This was all going according to plan.
"He's in that one. I'd recognise Flitwick's office anywhere!" Harry nudged Buckbeak, and he lowered his flight to hover next to Sirius' window.
"Bombarda!" I cried. Sirius was gobsmacked, even as Harry grabbed his arm firmly, and pulled him on. We flew around to a clearing.
"Harry… Ginny… Amber… I have no idea how to thank you…"
"You have to go, Sirius."
"I will, Amber. But first… Harry… you do look just like your father. Except you have your mother's eyes. I know that you are destined for great things, Harry. I want you to remember that, Harry. And I'm sure both Ginny and Amber need you to stay strong."
"Sirius…"
"I know. It is cruel that we have so little time together. As it is equally cruel that I promised you a new home, only to have it taken from you. But trust me… it can only be called fate."
"Sirius, I think you may have slightly misplaced your sentimentality."
"Right, Ginny. I shall take my leave now. Harry… good luck. And be careful."
"I don't go looking for trouble. Trouble usually finds me."
"Hello, Amber. Nice of you three to make it in time," Hermione told us.
"Yeah, I admit I may have forgotten you wouldn't have had three hours alone with Ron when I used the Time-Turner."
"It's the thought that counts."
"Ah, is Dumbledore gone now? Can I take care of my patients now?"
It was the next day, and the three of us headed over to Lupin's office, only to find him in the middle of packing.
"Professor, what happened here?"
"I am deeply sorry, Amber, but I'm afraid Hogwarts can no longer welcome me."
"You haven't been sacked?"
"No. I resigned. Unfortunately, a certain someone let slip that I was a werewolf this morning at breakfast. Upset over losing recognition for catching Black…"
"Snivellus…"
"As nice as it is to hear you repeat the speech patterns of our time, I'd advise against using that term on school grounds, Ginny."
"Sorry," Ginny said, in her fake apologetic tone. Harry laughed. I did a better job at hiding it.
"Harry… here. I thought this might be useful to you," Lupin said, returning his Invisibility Cloak. "And… as I am no longer your teacher, I feel no guilt whatsoever in returning this to you." He also gave us the Marauder's Map.
"I must leave now. Sorry, Dumbledore," he finished. "Mischief managed." The map wiped clean.
"Indeed. I would have asked for time alone with these three anyway." Lupin nodded, and left.
"Why so glum, Harry."
"It didn't make a difference. Pettigrew escaped."
"Didn't make a difference? It made all the difference in the world. You saved an innocent man from a terrible fate.
"…But… Professor Trelawney made an actual prediction!"
"You seriously still wasting your time believing that fraud?"
"Amber, Harry might be onto something."
"She said that Voldemort's servant would skive from the school, and escape to Voldemort. Voldemort's going to be resurrected!"
"Alas, Harry, it had to happen. I can only hope you three can put a stop to him in the end…"
"Us three? What's so special about us besides being the weirdest love triangle since…?"
"…That is a tale for another day, Ginny. Yes, Harry, you have asked this question once before. I must further resign myself to tell you that the day for you to hear the answer is still a long time incoming."
What is there to say about this chapter? It's the last one again, plus Lupin's office!
Oh, right. Yeah, the girls are getting a little less subtle when they're courting Harry. It's probably just normal. I hope.
On a marginally less creepy note... I have a little question. It has absolutely no relevance to the story, but it bears asking... Who has Amber grown closer to: Harry or Ginny.
Neither can live while the other survives...
