Amber came back from seeing Hagrid.
"How did it go?" I asked. Amber didn't respond. She spent a lot of time in trauma. "Sirius should be here soon…"
"Harry, he's here!" Ginny called from the fireplace. Me and Amber crowded around it, as Sirius's head emerged from the flames.
"Amber, I must ask you one question. Did you, or did you not, put your name into the Goblet of Fire?"
"No."
"Good. But tell me, what else irks you?" Amber spilled everything. How the Slytherins, three-quarters of the Hufflepuffs, and half of the Ravenclaws believed her a dark witch, her deep depression about being forced to compete, about her own sister not believing her, about them and Ron…
"And Hagrid's just told me what the first task is, and it's dragons, Sirius, I'm a goner."
"…Dragons we can deal with, Amber, but I have some pointers to deal with. Igor Karkaroff?"
"The Durmstrang highmaster?"
"Yes. He was a Death Eater. He spoon-fed the Ministry information on as many Death Eaters as he could to get his own stinking hide out of Azkaban. If only he ratted out Wormtail…"
"Sirius, be sentimental in your own time. I need to know everything I can to survive!"
"Right. Karkaroff seems like the person who'd help out Voldemort and put your name in that Goblet…"
"Huh?"
"Amber, I haven't told you… I had a dream about Voldemort, where he and Wormtail plotted your murder."
"Alright, I'll go ask Dumbledore for rat disinfectant."
"Amber, this is deadly serious. You are on the brink of death from four different points!"
"So you're saying…"
"Focus on surviving each task. Harry, Ginny, I need you to help Amber cast all sorts of spells. She'll need them."
'Dragon advice?"
"Dragons cannot attack what they can't see. They rely mostly on sight and have a primitive system of hearing. Adaptation has weeded out taste, smell, heat detection and touch, for obvious reasons. Prepare to face your opponent using these techniques." Sirius vanished into the fireplace shortly after, and we turned. Who had come to interrupt our conversation?
It was Hermione and Ron. I was too angry to comprehend them being in the same dormitory until later.
"What are you two doing?" Ginny asked what we were all thinking.
"We thought we heard voices. What are you doing?"
"I was talking to Sirius! You two just scared him off!"
"Oh… right. Could you two please tell us the truth every now and again?"
I took one of the Slytherin's badges, and threw it at Hermione.
"Hermione Granger… could you care about your own sister every now and again?"
It was time for the event. Darion walked Amber to the champion's tent. I was under the Invisibility Cloak, making sure they were alright. No offence to him, but I didn't trust Amber without one of us.
"I just wanted to thank you, Darion, for convincing the Ravenclaws I'm not a bad person."
"It was my pleasure, my fair damsel." Amber giggled. Darion seemed to be a lot stranger by the day.
"Darion, can you tell Harry and Ginny that I'm fine? Especially Harry. He's standing right there," Amber asked. I ran off slightly after Darion could affirm Amber's guess.
"And now, for our fourth champion, Amber GRANGER!" Mr Bagman announced. The Hungarian Horntail lay in wait for Amber to come out from the entrance.
And waited. And waited.
A stone clattered in the arena. The Horntail's head turned in that direction, and wandered over to that portion of the arena. The horny tail remained over the golden egg that was Amber's goal. Another clatter. The Horntail switched directions quickly, and the horned tail moved away. The golden egg slowly began to levitate, before falling on the hard ground. The Horntail's head turned to her precious eggs, before she launched a fiery jet towards them.
"Glacius!"
From beside the golden egg, an icy blast came from mid-air and met the fire bolt just over the eggs. The fire and the ice vanished. The dragon prepared for another blast, before the golden egg twitched and opened. A loud, screeching wail emerged from the egg, and the dragon, as well as everyone else, recoiled. Chains appeared around the dragon, before it was led away. Amber appeared, twirling her wand and holding the egg.
"I can't believe it! Amber was so fast to get her egg, no one really noticed how long it took!" Bagman called. Amber waved around the arena, smiling. Me and Ginny rushed to her side, with Darion, Hermione and Ron following close behind. Amber hugged us all.
"Whoever put your name in that Goblet is going to be kicking him/herself now!" Hermione cheered. Amber hugged her all the more tightly, beaming so brightly, it was kind of painful.
"And now… for the judge's marks!" Bagman pointed out.
Madame Maxime: 9
Bartemius Crouch: 9
Albus Dumbledore: 10
Ludo Bagman: 10
Igor Karkaroff: 4
Total score: 42
"Fourty-two points! You won! You won! You won!" Everyone cheered.
Finished this at school, but I don't get the net on my laptop there. But you guys are more important than my subscriptions: I haven't done those yet.
Fun fact: Bartemius Crouch's score was determined by someone who read the Amber Vs the Horntail scene, and gave his opinion on what it was worth. Krum probably still got 40, so Amber got a few extra points ahead!
Do not expect today to be a double. Even though I did some of the next chapter at school, I ended the day on a terrible note, and am taking the rest of the day to read that fanfiction that got me laughing almost constantly.
Neither can live while the other survives...
