Amy had just awoken from her pre-evening nap to a savory aroma in the kitchen.
"I made us dinner." Sheldon smiled.
"You cooked? Thank you, I am starving and it smells lovely."
Sheldon served Amy her plate and she headed to the couch with Sheldon following closely behind.
"Ugh, everywhere I sit makes me uncomfortable." Amy huffed in obvious frustration.
"Sit in my spot, see if that helps." Sheldon motioned towards his beloved seat.
"No, that is your spot, I can't sit there."
"Amy, please, don't be a hero. You are uncomfortable. You know you are the one and only person that could ever have spot privileges. But, if you ever tell anyone, there will be consequences." Sheldon winked.
Amy hesitantly sat down in the farthest spot from the door, sinking into what felt like heaven. All the pressure in her back had been relieved almost instantly.
"I see why you love this spot so much. My back feels so much better."
"I am glad you are comfortable." Sheldon chimed from the adjacent chair.
"So, what is this surprise you have in store for me?" She eyed him as she asked.
"Well, little lady, if I told you that would ruin the surprise."
"Of course. Well, I am full and that was delicious. Who knew you were such a good cook." Amy teased and Sheldon huffed back at her.
About an hour later after Sheldon cleaned up from dinner, he led Amy into their bedroom. He lit two candles, each on a nightstand and turned the lights off.
"Okay, now you need to get down to your undergarments and lay on your side." Sheldon said in an all business tone. Amy did as she was told and heard Sheldon fumbling through his dresser drawers.
Sheldon crawled on the bed next to Amy and lathered massage oil onto both of his hands. He started on Amy's feet, they had been sore and swollen the past few weeks.
"Sheldon, you don't know how good that feels. That oil smells lovely, it is very calming." Amy could feel all of her muscles losing their tension that she hadn't been aware was there in the first place. Sheldon moved up to massage her calves, gave her a playful smack on the rear, and continued up to her lower back. As soon as, he started on her back, he could audibly hear Amy's relief.
"Oh my back has been killing me, that feels absolutely amazing. Where did you learn to do this?"
"I googled it and then watched a YouTube tutorial on massages for pregnant women." Sheldon stated proudly.
"That is so sweet, thank you for this Sheldon."
"Well, we are not done yet, I still need to work on your shoulders and neck. I'll let you know when we are done." Sheldon chimed.
Amy was lying on their bed feeling completely relaxed in the dim candle lit room. All the stress from Mrs. Cooper being there was now a distant memory.
"Amy, are you ready for your bath?" Sheldon popped his head in the door.
"Yes, I am coming. Give me a minute, my muscles feel like jelly." Amy chuckled.
Sheldon helped Amy up and walked her to the bathroom where he had prepared her a warm lavender scented bath.
"It's lavender bath cubes. The aroma is supposed to relax you."
Amy looked up at Sheldon, her face must have looked perplexed.
"I googled it." Sheldon smiled.
"Oh Sheldon, thank you. This is exactly what I needed." Amy sunk into the warm water.
Sheldon handed her one of her favorite romance novels.
"I got you some new slippers with extra support, these should take some pressure off of your feet." Sheldon stated as he placed them next to the tub.
"You are the best." Amy said as Sheldon leaned down and gave her a quick peck.
"Now, read your book and relax. Give me a shout if you need anything." Sheldon said as he shut the bathroom door.
A long, painful three months had passed and Amy was ready to pop. She had gone on maternity leave a week ago so she spent her days waddling around the apartment, working on various projects for Issac's arrival. Sheldon would be home early as they had their, possible, final doctor appointments this afternoon.
Sheldon was driving home from work. He had decided to get his license before the baby was born in case of emergencies, and Amy was having trouble driving the past few weeks.
"Amy, are you ready to go?" Sheldon called as he closed the apartment door but was met with eerie silence.
"Amy?" Sheldon called again. Her keys and purse were in their respective spots so she had to be home, still no answer.
"AMY?" Sheldon raised his voice, anxiety bubbling up inside him as he rushed down the hall. He opened the bedroom door and relief washed over him when he saw Amy sitting on the edge of the bed.
"You worried me, did you hear me calling?" Sheldon questioned.
"I am sorry." That was all Amy could muster, she was visibly upset.
"Amy, what's wrong?"
"Sheldon, I am scared. I've never been this scared in my life. What if I can't do it? What if I am not a good mom? What if you can't handle the mess and constant crying of the baby?" Amy was now hysterically crying.
"Amy, Amy, Amy, calm down. Shhhh. It's okay. Calm down." Sheldon soothed as he sat next to her and pulled her face into his chest, stroking her hair.
"Amy.." Sheldon continued. "I have no doubt in my mind that you can do this. You are the strongest person I have ever met. You are affectionate, patient, intuitive, caring, and have the biggest heart of anyone on this planet. How could you not be a good mother? Issac is going to have the best mother, I know that for a fact. As far as your concerns about me, please know that I have nearly conquered my touch and germ fears. Amy, I love that little boy more than words can express and I haven't even met him yet. I have yet to lay eyes on his sweet face or hold his tiny body in my arms and I love him with all my heart. Please don't be scared, you can do this and I will be by your side every step of the way. I love you." Sheldon confessed as he rested his hand on her swollen belly.
Amy picked her head up from his chest and looked directly into Sheldon's blue eyes.
"Do you really mean that?" Amy asked, soft and timid.
"Of course I do. Amy, I wouldn't lie to you. Have a little faith in yourself…and me." Sheldon stroked Amy's back soothingly.
"Thank you, Sheldon. I feel a lot better now." Amy kissed his cheek, wiped her tears, and proceeded to the closet to get dressed for their appointment.
"Okay, everything looks perfect, should be ready to go any day now. You have a big healthy baby boy kicking around in there." Dr. Murray said as he finished Amy's ultrasound and exam.
"I know, I think he may be a football player." Amy joked as she was kicked in the rib for the umpteenth time.
"So, if she doesn't naturally go into labor in the next week, what is the protocol?" Sheldon asked concerned.
"Well, we will have to see how everything goes. But, if she goes too far past the due date, we may have to induce labor. It will just depend on when the little guy is ready to make his entrance into the world." Dr. Murray explained.
"If he is anything like his father, he's never going to come out on his own. He will have to be forced by a power greater than himself." Amy winked and squeezed Sheldon's hand, in attempt to relieve Sheldon's obvious anxiety.
"Dr. Cooper, inducing labor is quite a common practice, it poses no risks to the baby or the mother. Although, being completely truthful, it is more painful for the mother once the Pitocin is given." Dr. Murray continued.
"Have you decided if you are going to do an epidural?" Dr. Murray asked.
"I signed the waiver for one, but I only plan to use it as a very last resort."
"We hear that a lot." Dr. Murray laughed. "Well, hopefully we will see each other soon and have this baby. If you have any questions, please call me." Dr. Murray closed the door behind him after shaking hands.
"Well, I guess it is just a waiting game now." Sheldon said with a hint of worry in his voice.
"Yes, it is." Amy looked down to her belly. "You can come out any day now because I think you may be breaking my ribs." Amy joked to her bump just as she felt another kick to the ribs.
"Oh, this baby needs to come out…soon." Amy looked up to Sheldon who smiled down at her.
"I know, just a little longer. It will be worth every second of pain." Sheldon reassured, as he rubbed her belly.
