Tanglestar sprang to her paws, and the tom skittered away. She wasn't going to let him go that easy.
She leapt forward with a menacing hiss, managing to claw the tom's pelt.
The tom whirled around, not prepared to back down from a fight.
Tanglestar threw herself at the tom, knocking him onto his side. She dug her claws into his fur, latching on. She grabbed a mouthful of fur and pulled, hoping it would hurt.
The black tom struggled, and clawed at her side, trying to get her to let go. She didn't.
Suddenly, the tom yanked away, and Tanglestar was lying exposed on the cave floor. She jumped to her feet, expecting more, but instead heard paws skittering across the rock. He was leaving? Not so fast.
Tanglestar sprinted after the tom, into the dark night.
"Get back here you coward!"
He didn't stop.
Tanglestar persevered, bounding over fallen boulders and around bushes. At last she reached the tom, and threw herself at him.
The tom fell to the ground, collapsing under the leader's weight. He didn't struggle, and Tanglestar clawed him, giving no mercy. Tufts of black fur littered the ground, and soon she stopped, stepping back to survey the pain she had inflicted.
The tom didn't move, but his blood stained side slowly rose and fell.
Now that that was taken care of, Tanglestar took in her surroundings.
She was surrounded by bushes, and on one side, a rock wall. She scented the air, and smelled another cat. The she-cat. Another sniff of the air determined fear. The she-cat knew she was there.
Tanglestar began prowling around the small clearing, trying to determine where the she-cat was.
On her left, the bushes rustled. Tanglestar dove towards them and a she cat darted out of them, holding something in her mouth. Tanglestar didn't need to look, she already knew what it was.
She chased after the tabby she-cat, who was surprisingly swift. The she-cat wove her way around the bushes and boulders, keeping a steady pace.
Tanglestar huffed and puffed, trying to keep up. Her shoulder throbbed with every stride she took, but there was no way she was going to let that get in her way. She was this close to getting the stone, and nothing was going to hold her back. Nothing.
Thank you for reading, I'll try and post a chapter every other day now. I hope you enjoyed!
