Shoving with all her might, Tanglestar managed to get the tom off her. Before Frostpelt could attack again, Tanglestar sprang to her feet and mewed, "Stop! Look at the rocks!"
Frostpelt spared a glance to the side, and his eyes widened.
The rocks had formed a line, and were glowing brightly. Two of the rocks were quivering, and soon the rest followed suit. When Tanglestar looked back at Frostpelt and the other mysterious cats that were fighting, they were all…dull. Fading.
"Apprentices! Stop fighting!"
The two younger cats broke away from their enemies.
The enemy cats were almost see through, and in the blink of an eye, they disappeared.
Silence filled the air.
"What's going on?" Dapplepaw asked, staring at the stones.
Before Tanglestar could respond, the stones emitted as strong flash of light, causing the cats to close their eyes. When they opened their eyes, the river side was dark again, and the stones were gone. None of the cats spoke.
Tanglestar glanced around, as if searching for an answer. She didn't find one.
"I guess we'll never know what those stones were for."
The apprentices nodded.
"I have a feeling those cats didn't know either."
Cats gathered around their leader sitting on a thick branch on a tree above them.
"I, Tanglestar, leader of LeafClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. He has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him to you as a warrior in his turn.
"Dapplepaw and Duskpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"
Both apprentices nodded and mewed, "I do."
"Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior names. Dapplepaw, from this moment on you will be known as Dappletail. StarClan honors your loyalty, and we welcome you as a full warrior of LeafClan."
Tanglestar rested her muzzle on the tom's head, and Dappletail licked the leader's shoulder before pulling away.
"By the powers of StarClan, I will give you your warrior name." Tanglestar turned to Duskpaw. "Duskpaw, from this moment on you will be known as Duskpelt. StarClan honors your courage, and we welcome you as a full warrior of LeafClan."
The cats below chanted the new warrior's names and Duskpelt and Dappletail joined their brother, Robinclaw, further out on the branch. The three warriors basked in the chants, and thought ahead to the night vigil they would be holding. Tanglestar watched the cats, feeling a sense of accomplishment wash over her, along with a sense of relief that her mission of finding the stones was over.
