*Furiously screeches with force of thousand winds* Not only is this, you know, like ALMOST A YEAR OLD, I also looked back on previous chapters and gosh, as I type I have no idea with tense I'm in, do I? *Bows head with shame* I APOLOGIZE TO THE FEW PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY FOLLOW THIS. You probably even forgot how this game is, don't you? Don't worry, I blame you not. Though, this year I plan to get on this site more when I can. I even deleted my entire profile and redid the whole thing.
Well, on with the show. And a joke to make up for it.
"Past, Present, and Future walked into a bar.
It was tense."
To Be Back
Chapter 8
Furiously shaking her head, Akari held temples for a moment. Clearing her thoughts, she repeated the topic of conversation the guys were having. "So... Axes and hammers, huh? What's up with that?"
"Everything!" The electric blue haired exclaimed. "Owen here thinks that his small little hammers could outrank oh so amazing axes!"
"I sure do!" Owen shouted back with a smirk. "Any day!"
The two best friends continued their screaming match as Akari turned back to Renee, who seemed to be concerned with the situation presented before her. She tried to interrupt the two bickerers. "Uh, boys..." But alas, Renee's words fell upon deaf ears. Akari then proceeded to butt in herself. She was always the louder one. It just came natural to be a person to take charge.
"OKAY," She said as leaned over the bar table. The two young men turned their gaze as they saw Akari staring intently at them, almost although she hadn't even dare to blink. "You guys are having this argument over axes and hammers, right?"
"Yeah..." Luke responded after he looked at Owen for an approval of that answer.
"Exactly, so why fight over only two opinions when you can each just see for yourselves."
"What do you mean?" The red haired questioned.
Akari sighed relief, as the room air seemed to calm. "What I mean is that you two are biased. You've both been raised to families that each used one of the tools twenty four seven. Obviously, using it all your life, you wouldn't dare think anything is better other than whatever environment you grew up with. So the only way to settle this dispute is that if you each take two days; one spent working with axes, one spent with hammers."
She sat back politely, hands crossed together. "Simple!" She said joyfully like a small school girl.
"Hmmm..." The boys seemed to look up and think about it. They started a small conversation together. Akari and Renee began a chat themselves.
"Thank the Lord, at least that happened. Now it's somewhat peaceful, even if it is only this one night. Thank you, I would've never been able to hush them up myself." Renee huffed with relief, the air escaping her as she fell and leaned back, the wooden hair her support.
Akari waved it off. "No biggie. I've gotten most things done like that. I guess it's just a more authoritative voice I find within myself." She beamed, pushing her glasses up a bit more.
"Oh hey!" Luke yelled, dragging back the girls' attention. "We thought and decided that's a great idea you had. And-"
"Finally!" exclaimed a Kathy as she pulled back a chair and sat, not realizing she had cut Luke off, not that she seemed to care due to the amount of stress in her voice.
"Oh hi Kathy," Owen looked over. "And what took you so long?"
"Costumers, costumers, costumers. As small as this town is, we have such busy nights. Having an extra hand at serving would be great, if everyone on this island already didn't already have a job." The blonde explained as she laid her apron over the chair.
Akari perked up, straightening her back a bit. "Job?" She intervened.
"Yeah?"
"I could use a job. Being new to the island and all, I don't have one yet."
"Akari, what about the far-" Renee tried to make out before her mouth hand been covered by tan hand.
"Really?" Kathy continued. "Well, it would be great if you could work here. Just a matter of your skills. We can't just throw out a job nilly-willy here and there."
"Oh, I understand completely. Maybe I could have pre-job thing, like, work a day so you guys can see what I can do. Employee in training." Akari grinned.
"Amazing! Hey, maybe you could start tomorrow. I'll just ask my dad, the man who runs this place. I'm sure he'll be fine with it-"
"Actually," Luke butted back in. "I was about to ask Akari here to come with Owen and me tomorrow out to the forest. Day one is with axes."
"That's fine, the hours here are usually late anyway, just get things done before six." The tall blonde added. "And mind if I come with?"
"Of course not!" Enthusiasm filled the energetic boy.
"You know what they say," Owen started, calm smile. "The more the merrier."
"Great, that means Renee can come with us, too!" Akari exclaimed happily.
"Wait, what?" Renee looked around. Oh how she just knew things would get interesting with this cousin around, right from the minute that girl stepped on the island.
Her assumptions as always, correct.
"Yes! Alright!" Akari grinned, a small fist pump reaching the air. "I've barely been here for a day but I just know life is going to be amazing from here on out!"
The two cousins parted ways with Kathy and the boys, walking the night back to the fields and to the farm. Along the way, they watched as the shops in town all dimmed their lights, preparing to close up soon, the mayor's office, too.
"He's probably there now..." Akari inquired. "He sounds like a busy guy with even busier nights. Or calm ones. I wouldn't know though, I don't live their or know him."
"Yet," Renee jumped it. "You'll probably make fast friends with him. And everyone else on Castanet. Just like you did back in the bar and dragging me to possible chop trees tomorrow."
"Oh shush now," the taller slightly sneered playfully. "You knew what you would soon be getting into with me around. You know me better than anyone, Renee." She shrugged.
"Yeah, but still... Anyway, let's head home. C'mon. I feel like this night lasted longer than expected."
"True."
Akari looked back at the main office before continuing on, following behind Renee. They made it home to the farm, cleaned themselves off, and snuggled into their beds. Akari had tied her long hair up and slipped beneath the sheets. They were so soft and comfortable, that she felt like she was truly back home, her rightful place as she shut her eyes and drifted to sleep slowly.
Before her eyes shot open.
Quickly, she sat up in her bed, dark orbs wide.
How did she know the backgrounds Luke and Owen came from and grew up with?
