ONE MONTH LATER

It was two weeks of the summer holidays. One of the best summers in Ohio, with the sun scorching and a light breeze in the air. Finn was down at the beach, along Puck, Quinn, Mike, Tina, Kurt and Blaine.

'OI FINN? Where's Rach?' Kurt asked, as he jogged up to Finn, who was sat on the rocks overlooking the sea.

'Don't know. Tried ringing her earlier, but she didn't answer her phone' Finn answered, staring out at the sea. Kurt knew something was off, but didn't press it.

'Okay.. Erm.. I'll see you soon' Kurt said, seeing Finn tense slightly in his shoulders. Finn heard him go and sighed. He rubbed a hand over his face and rested his chin on his knees. He was so caught up in his own world, he didn't hear footsteps behind him.

'What's got you thinking?' asked Rachel, sitting down besides him.

'How I've messed everything up between us' Finn said gloomily, his eyes fixed on the sea. Rachel smiled at him and hooked an arm through his, resting her head on his shoulder.

'Baby, you haven't-' started Rachel, but Finn cut her off.

'I have! We're too young and we have our dreams laid out in front of us. We're going New York, you gonna be a Broadway star and I'll be a teacher-' whatever Finn was going to say next, never made it out of his throat, as Rachel had taken his face in her hands and crushed their lips together. After recovering from the slight shock, he responded, threading a hand through her hair and pulling her closer.

'If I could finish' Rachel whispered, as they pulled apart 'You haven't messed everything up.. If you'd let me finish, Finn...' she trialed off and held up her left hand, a small smile at her lips. It took Finn a few seconds to see the ring that now adorned her left ring finger.

'You...?'

'Yes, I'll marry you' Rachel said, her eyes watering as Finn's eye lit up.

'Yes?' he questioned, just to make sure he had heard her right

'Yes!' she laughed, giggling when he pounced on her, kissing every inch of her face he could reach. Her laughter echoed, before her giggles were silenced by his lips covering hers...

'You weren't planning to do anything at the beach were you?' Rachel asked, an hour later. She and Finn were laid in her bed, tangled up in the sheets. her head on his chest while his arm was slung lazily over her shoulders.

'No, I wasn't really paying attention. I had things on my mind' Finn replied, his lips grazing her head.

'Like what?' Rachel asked, looking at him

'Thinking Id messed things up between us' Finn reminded Rachel, chuckling slightly. Rachel snuggled into him and wrapped her arms rounds his waist. Just then, Rachel's cell phone rang, making Finn groan as she moved to grab it.

'Hello?... Yes, this is she...What? Oh my god! Are... Are they okay?... Yeah, I'm on my way... Thank you! Bye' she hung and grabbed her clothes, throwing them on. Finn scrambled from the bed and started throwing his own clothes on.

'Babe? What's happened? Rachel? Rach!' Finn shouted, as Rachel rushed from the room, fully clothed and grabbed her keys. He just managed to close the passenger door, before Rachel sped off.

'What the hell is going on?' Finn asked, watched her. Rachel sniffled.

'My Dad's... They're in the hospital!' Finns eyes widened at Rachel's answer to his question.

'What? Rach, what's happened?' He asked

'I don't know! All I know is that they're in there' Rachel said, her voice close to cracking. In the amount of time they arrived there, Finn was shocked that hadn't been stopped or caught by the police. Rachel rushed inside the hospital and up to the reception desk.

'Leroy and Hiram Berry? They were brought in after a car accident?' Rachel asked, bouncing on the balls of her feet. The nurse searched for them on the computer, before looking up at Rachel.

'ICU, Floor 12' the nurse answered and Rachel rushed off for the elevator, Finn following, shouting a thank you back to the nurse. Rachel rushed out of the elevator, when they arrived in the ICU. Rachel pulled the door open and rushed towards the desk, when Finn grabbed her arm spinning her back to face him. He pointed gently down a corridor, at where Hiram was sitting on a chair.

'PAPA!' Rachel shouted, as she rushed through the door and in her Dads arms, finally allowing the tears to fall. When she got herself under control, she sat down, grabbing Finn's hand tightly.

'What happened?' Finn asked, asking the question what Rachel was dreading to ask.

'We were on our way back from work... Drunk driver, I think... Anyway, he drove us off the road and we end up wrapped round a tree' Hiram said. Finn looked at Hiram. There was barely a scratch on him, despite a large cut on his forehead. 'I managed to get out before the worst' Hiram added, seeing Finn look at him. Rachel snapped her head to Hiram.

'Worst? What does that mean?' she choked out, her eyes wild.

'The car managed to stop and I crawled out. I was rushing round to Leroy's side, when it toppled over the edge of a small cliff...' Hiram said, making Rachel clamp a hand to her mouth to stop the small scream escaping her mouth.

'A cliff?' Finn questioned, his voice showing his shock

'Yeah. Thought he was goner, but he's holding on' Hiram said. Rachel suddenly got up and started looking through the windows of the ICU.

'Babe?' What are you doing?' Finn asked, watching Rachel closely.

'Where is he?' Rachel said. Hiram suddenly got up and went to grab Rachel, but she was too quick as she found the room.

'Rachel! No!' Hiram shouted, a little too late. Rachel flung the door open and rushed into the room. However she froze at Leroy's bedside as she got up close. He was virtually unrecognizable under the bandages.

'Daddy?' Rachel whispered. She reached out a hand to touch him and quickly withdrew it. 'He's cold' she stated. She sniffled and let out a shuddering breath.

'Rach? Babe?' Finn questioned, seeing a change in his fiancee, who suddenly bolted from the room. 'RACHEL!' Finn shouted, rushing out of the room, after her...

'RACH!' Finn screamed, as he threw open the front door to the Berry's house. He opened the living room door, seeing the alcohol cabinet open. His heart thundered and his blood rushed to his ears. It had been an hour since Rachel had left the hospital, leaving Finn stranded and having to get a taxi back to her house.

'Oh god! RACHEL?' he screamed again, heading into the kitchen. Empty. He rushed for the stairs and took them two at a time. He threw open every door, seeing every one empty, until he got to Rachel's room, which was locked.

'NO!' he shouted, before aiming a kick to her door. It didn't do anything, except rattle against the door frame. He aimed another kick at the same spot and a slight crack appeared. He kicked it once more with more force and it split open. He aimed a punch at the door and his fist went through it. He fumbled for the door handle, but couldn't unlock it, as the key what was normally in the lock, wasn't there. He pulled his arm back through the hole in the door and bent down slightly to look through it, seeing the room empty. He sighed and slammed his foot against the door again, watching as the door banged open. He rushed the en suite and threw the door open, seeing that empty too.

'What the hell?' he mumbled to himself, when a thought struck him. He wrenched open her wardrobe, finding all her clothes gone. He whipped round and headed for her drawers, pulling them all open and finding each one empty.

'NO! NO! DON'T YOU DARE DO THIS TO ME!' Finn screamed, not wanting to believe that Rachel would actually leave him. He sat down on her bed, feeling something crinkle underneath him. He frowned and pulled back her duvet, finding a piece of paper with just two simple words on it.

I'm sorry...
