Jade looked at Tori's unmoving body fear in her eyes and a silent scream on her lips. Tori wasn't breathing. That was the one thing running through her mind but it was as if she couldn't process what just happened. Alistair moved closer to her and she flinched away from him causing him to stop in his tracks. "You don't have to fear me. I won't hurt you. In fact, I should thank you for providing a distraction." Alistair said in a soothing voice.
Jade looked at him questioningly, "I don't know what you are talking about."
Alistair gave her a small smile, "You see, I hid you from her and made myself 'visible' to her. Therefore when you entered the room she attacked you thinking you were an enemy and when she realised it was you, she let her guard down."
"I…I didn't want to help you, y-you just killed my friend." She said her voice wavering as she suppressed a sob.
Alistair chuckled and looked back at Tori's body. "That THING isn't your friend. She is a blight, an affront to mother nature. But don't worry she isn't dead, yet. Damn things are exceptionally hard to kill."
"What do you mean?" Jade questioned trying to distract the man long enough to come up with a plan to escape. He had his sword but didn't seem to have any other weapons with him. She on the other hand was unarmed and injured.
Alistair looked at her curiously before a smile formed on his face. "You have no idea what you are, do you?" Seeing the befuddled look on her face he continued, "The world is much different than you realise. Nearly all the monsters humans portray in films and tell stories about exist, they may be more complex but they exist all the same. Tori here, as she calls herself, is what we call an Abomination. A human who obtained power through Dark means. Her entire family is made up of Abominations and it is my job to hunt them down."
"You're crazy." Jade said as she scooted further from the man in front of her.
"Far from it Lacorai, you may not believe me but it's the truth."
Jade stopped moving and stared at the man, "what did you just call me?"
"Lacorai, it means 'the chosen ones' though you are only part Lacorai." Seeing that he had the Goth' attention, he continued. "You see, in this hidden world there are very dangerous creatures like the Wraiths, Demons, Vampires, Lycans, Abominations. In order to protect those who are unaware of these creatures and those who cannot protect themselves 'The Brotherhood of the Keepers' was formed. A majority of the members are Lacorai, beings who are immune to most forms of magic and are graced with incredible strength and agility. They are the elite warriors of our group. Your mother was one of us, one of the best actually."
Jade froze, this was all too much. "M-my mother?"
"Yes, your real mother. Your father was also part of the Brotherhood but after your mother died he retired and took you with him. Such a shame really you were one of the few 'enhanced' who survived during birth. But there is still time, you can come with me now and we will train you. You could become one of the best warriors in the Brotherhood."
Jade looked at the man contempt in her voice, "join your band of killers? I don't think so."
"You think WE are the killers? Do you have any idea how many people your girlfriend has killed? She decimated millions before we put a stop to their rampage. Humans, demons, magical creatures it didn't matter to them and you dare call us killers." Alistair was infuriated but before he could do anything else he sensed the arrival of unwanted company. "I won't force you to join our cause but soon enough you will see that we are the good guys." And with that, Alistair muttered an incantation and disappeared in a flash of green light.
Moments later, Emily and Trina arrived at the scene, "Damn it!" Emily cursed as she looked around the room. "We just missed him."
"Lucky for him, we'll hunt him down later." Trina said as she knelt down beside her sister. It was lucky that it was so difficult to kill them or else Tori would be dead. Carefully picking her up, she turned and walked away calling over her shoulder, "Be careful with her Em or Tori will have your hide when she wakes up."
Emily looked at the Goth who was silently watching the events unfold. With a sigh Emily approached the injured girl slowly so as not to scare her before she picked her up and walked out of the house.
Jade looked at the man in front of her and shook his hand a little hesitantly. "Magnus? Tori never told me anything about you."
"Well it's not like you're best friends or anything." The young man said as he went back to the sleeping Latina's side. "So tell me Jade, why do you think it's your fault Tori is here?"
Jade stared at the floor in shame, "I should have told her parents about what happened that night she came to my house. Maybe if I told them they could have stopped her from leaving and that guy wouldn't have attacked her." She shuddered as she remembered the sight of Tori lying on the floor. Trina and Emily had brought them to this place a few hours ago. It looked like a private hospital but didn't have a lot of people when they came in. The nurses and doctors had taken Tori to a room while others set her broken bones and placed a cast on her hand. They gave her a liquid that burned her throat before placing her in bed. Once she was alone she had gone off to find Tori. Jade shook herself out of her memory and looked at the young man standing next to Tori's bed. She was so out of it that it took her a while to realise something, "hang on, how did you know that I was blaming myself." She asked as she scratched her right hand which had started itching.
Magnus smiled but didn't answer the question. "It's not your fault. No matter what you did the outcome would still be the same. You were just looking out for your friend and I admire that." There was a moment of silence before he spoke again. "You and Alistair were alone for quite a while. What did you talk about?"
Jade looked at the brown eyes pinning her in place and for a second thought of lying about what happened but decided against it. "He told me what you are and what's out there."
"Do you believe him?"
"Honestly, I don't know what to believe." Jade said as she shook her head. "This all just seems like a bad dream."
Magnus gave a small nod, "Did you talk about anything else?"
Jade was about to answer when a searing pain shot through her hand. "What the hell..?"
"That's the potion taking effect." Magnus said calmly as the Goth fell to her knees. "Just take deep breathes. It will be over in a minute.
Jade took a few deep breathes but the pain was getting worse. When she thought she couldn't take any more, the pain started to subside before it disappeared completely. She stood up shakily and watched in awe as the cast melted of her hand. A few seconds later, her arm was good as new. She tested her arm and found that it was completely healed. She was about to question Magnus when a groan turned her attention to the stirring Latina. Tori's eyes snapped open and she sat up straight her eyes finding the unknown male immediately. "What are you doing here?" She asked.
Magnus gave her a small smile. "You were injured. I came to make sure you're okay."
Tori nodded before her eyes found Jade's and she gave her a small smile. "Hey." She whispered softly.
"Hey." Jade replied. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay. Just needed some rest is all."
"You're acting as if you had a hangover. Tori, you were stabbed in the chest." Jade shook her head as she felt as if it would explode. "And my hand was healed in like a minute. He was telling the truth, you aren't human."
Tori nodded, "I would have told you but it would have put your life in danger."
"Okay, but since I'm in the loop now would you mind telling me who he is." Jade said gesturing at Magnus.
Tori and Magnus exchanged a look and Jade's curiosity got the better of her, "Come on it's not like anything else can surprise me."
Tori chuckled and sat up straighter on her bed. "Okay. Jade, I'd like to introduce you to Magnus, my brother."
