"Mommies! It's today! The whole day!" I jump onto their bed.
"Sweetheart," mommy wraps me in her arms, "Good morning to you," mommy runs her fingers through my hair, "Mama's still asleep so…"
I put a finger to my lips. "So...shhh…"
"Yes, sweetheart," mommy smiles, "Shhh…"
"But mommy," I whisper into mommy's ear, "It's today! The whole day! Do I get the whole day, really?"
"Yes munchkin, the whole day," mama says, and her hand is in my hair; making it messier.
"Mommy," I whisper into mommy's ear, "I think mama's awake."
Mommy smiles, "What should we do then?"
"Say good morning?"
Mommy nods and kisses the finger on my lips, gently pulling it away.
"Mama," I whisper into mama's hair, "Are you awake?"
No response.
"Good morning mama?"
A little giggle.
"Mama! I hear you!" Another giggle.
"Jane..." Mommy smiles and reaches out to lift mama's hair; to uncover her face, hidden behind the blanket of curls.
There, a smile.
"Mama! Good morning!" I kiss mama's cheek.
The smile grows wider.
"Good morning munchkin," mama turns to face me and greets me with a smile, "Is today the day?"
"Yes! Yes!" I stand to jump on the bed. "Today's the day!"
"Sweetheart…"
"Don't jump on the bed munchkin," mama shakes her head and pats the space between herself and mommy.
I sit cross-legged between my mommies.
My smile is bright and wide.
"Mommy?"
"Yes sweetheart?"
"Can I still give you a good morning kiss?"
Mommy smiles at me but turns to look to mama; mommy looks confused.
"Munchkin?"
"Yes mama?"
"Why are you asking for permission?" Mama smiles and holds my hand.
"Because, mommy's already awake so I can't kiss her good morning when she's not just waking up!" I look to my mommies, confused too.
"Hmm…" mama smiles and looks at mommy, "Come here munchkin," mama holds me in her arms and whispers, "Can I tell you a secret munchkin?"
"Yes mama," I whisper back, making sure to cup my hand over my mouth; so mommy can only smile and watch us.
