63. Chapter 62

Chapter Sixty Two

At first all that the newly betrothed couple saw in the mirror was a reflection of themselves, but slowly the surface of the mirror seemed to start to flow like liquid, their images blurred and wobbled, and soon were gone, to be replaced by a swirling picture of lights and water and familiar buildings. Hermione looked into Draco's eyes as a warm sensation built inside of her and they seemed to spin together, feeling as light as air, their feet simultaneously left the floor as they soared through the mirror. The moon was full above them and the velvet sky was studded with stars as they came back down to earth in the centre the Piazza San Marco.

The evening air was warm and Draco and Hermione looked into each others' eyes with a surety that came from the knowing that they were truly meant to be together. The Mirror of Narcissus only worked for true love and their own personal sanctuary was Venice – the place where they had first made love and shared their first dates as a couple. It seemed like so long ago now that they couldn't imagine a time when they were not in love.

A choir was rehearsing outside Saint Mark's Basillica and the heavenly voices seemed to bless the couples betrothal, and the night was alive with magic. Draco held Hermione's face in his hands and drank in her deep brown eyes, remembering a snowflake, that he had once kissed off her soft lashes. Hermione closed her eyes slowly as Draco leant closer, and with a passion that could be felt throughout history, their lips once again closed around one another's under the moonlit square in the magical city of Venice.
