The first time the Daleks realized I was here was priceless. I contacted them through radio and they all shouted my name in their electronic voices. "Doctor! Doctor!" I was trying to get them to accidentally tell me their plans, but it wasn't really working out very well. Thank goodness for all the cameras all over London, because we could see all of what the Daleks were doing. Many stormed into people's flats and it seemed that they were searching for something. A inset screen popped up and you could see the Daleks terrorizing the people inside. "How?" "We've got access to anything with a camera, Doctor. That includes cell phones, computers and, well, cameras." Genaveve explained and I frowned once I turned back to face the screen. The Daleks didn't open fire on them, which was strange, but that didn't mean that they wouldn't. Whatever they were trying to find they wanted desperately.
"Have they said anything about what they want?" I never took my livid eyes from the screen with all the Daleks ransacking homes of scared innocent families. "Nothing." I looked over at Tardis who was clenching Lucy's hand with fright as she was staring at the emotionless life forms. Lucy had her head tilted to the side with confusion, and I was slightly envious that she didn't have to see the evil we saw. I returned my focus on our problem and as soon as I did so, someone shouted, "Miss, we're receiving an incoming transmission!" Genaveve stood up from her chair and closed her eyes. "That's impossible! This is a secret satellite reciever, there's no way they can-" "Actually," I interrupted. "The Daleks are very skilled with hacking into your, 'high-security' systems. They can practically launch nuclear weapons if they wanted to, but they need something. That's why they are looking through people's homes. You might as well answer it." I added and she sighed while waving a hand to rush the man who had stood up.
"We are the Daaaleks, inferior human. If you cooperate with us, we will spare the lives of a few humans in return." Genaveve held her head up with confidence and asked, "What is it that you're searching for?" The Dalek paused for a moment, most likely conversing silently with the other Daleks in their ship. "Something of the Doctor's. Something important to his life." I immediately thought of the TARDIS. What use do they have for it, is what I want to know. "You have one hour to comply before we destroy your city." My eyes widened and the transmission ended with a low buzz of the screen. "I'll go." I blurted without thinking lf anything remotely close to a plan. "Dad, 't. Not against a whole fleet of Daleks!" She let go of Lucy's small hand and grasped my shirt instead. "You are staying here, safe with Lucy." I looked away from her sullen eyes so she couldn't convince me to not go. "What am I supposed to do? Wait around and wait for them to kill all these people?" "No, you're going to use that clever minds of yours to think of some brilliant plan." She leaned up and kissed my forehead, something I usually did to comfort her. She was right: I shouldn't let anything skew my mind from the way I usually reacted to things.
"Okay, we must figure out how to get on their ship without them noticing." I turned to the Farlands who thought my plan was mad. "Are you mad?" I smirked before replying, "Of course, I'm a madman with a blue box." I'm sure that they were wondering what I was planning, but I didn't want to think about that. The thing I really wanted to know was what the Daleks were looking for. The only thing I hold dear is the TARDIS, but they wouldn't be searching in houses for it, would they? I turned around to see Tardis playing with little Lucy. Well, it wasn't really playing, it looked like Tardis was letting her feel her face and hair. I smiled for just a split second and then looked back at the screen. "I think they want my ship. It's the only thing I hold dear to me." I explained. "What else would they want? They could use the technology in the TARDIS." I searched my memories for anything of value they'd want, but there seemed to be nothing. "Doctor, what can we do?" Thomas asked from behind me.
Any other day, I'd say nothing, in fear of losing the lives of anyone who tried to help me, but one more look at Tardis and Lucy, for some reason, made me say, "Monitor them. If we do anything aggressive before the hour of truce ends, they'll shoot bystanders and innocent people without a second thought." Thomas and his wife nodded and I started to form a plan. "There is a way I could get them all to leave..." I needed Tardis to come, but I didn't want to leave Lucy here alone. The two of them looked so calm and happy together, it would be horrible if I left her here alone. "Tardis, Lucy, come on." I beckoned and the two turned their heads towards me with a spaced out look in their eyes. "Well come on now, we've only got the world to save." I joked and Tardis smiled while picking Lucy up. "Doctor!" The Farlands called before we left through the doors. "Be careful." I nodded and Tardis saluted with her free arm and bounced off with Lucy giggling innocently.
When we arrived back to my box, I ordered Tardis to take Lucy to the bouncy house room. "And make sure she doesn't hurt herself!" I warned and the two girls ran off with excitement ringing in their giggles. I gave them time to find the room before lifting off and flying up towards the sky. We were probably going to be shot at, so I turned on some of the shields on so we wouldn't be blown back down to Earth. I counted in my head and kept steering the TARDIS towards the Dalek ship. They never even got a scratch on me, but then we abruptly stopped and I felt myself fall straight to my back. "What?" I scampered to my feet and pulled the monitor up. The Daleks had a tracker beam homed in on the TARDIS. "No, no, no, no, no!" I yelled quickly and tried to free us from it.
As we got closer, my hope slipped away. We weren't getting out of this beam, so I had to come up with another plan. I didn't want Lucy nor Tardis to set foot on the Dalek ship, but it'd be nearly impossible for me to do this alone. That was when a partial idea popped into my head. Like all of my plans, I'd have to just make it up as I went on, but it was a good plan.
While we were being pulled in to the smaller Dalek ship I dialed on a telephone and greeted, "Hello? Is this thing on?" There were giggles on the other end, but finally Tardis' voice echoed into the ear piece. "Hi, Dad!" "I need you and Lucy to come up here for a moment." With that I hung up and paced around nervously.
When I heard multiple footsteps coming from the stairs I adjusted my bow tie and ran my fingers through my hair before the two girls had met with me. Tardis' face changed from jovial to concern in an instant. She could already tell that something was wrong and that I was about to try and lie about it. "Lucy, how about you go sit in this chair over here." Tardis guided the little girl to a chair that was near the front doors. "What's wrong?" She whispered once we were out of earshot of Lucy. Luckily the TARDIS was still running so her sounds were drowning out our conversation. "It's nothing big." I gestured my hands for her to calm down but I knew she didn't believe me. Her unique eyes glared at me with this intensity that always made me tell the truth. "There's a slight change of plans: the TARDIS has gotten caught in a tracker beam and now we're being pulled in to one of the smaller ships." Tardis sighed and glanced at Lucy. "You don't expect me to stay in here while you go and have all the fun, do you?" I shook my head. "Of course not, I need your help. But I think Lucy can tag along. We'll have to keep her from the Daleks though." The smile returned to her face and I mirrored her before there was a sudden jerk and we, including Lucy, tumbled down to the metal floor.
"We've stopped." I glanced over at Tardis and could tell she was hiding fear in her eyes. If there was one thing she was afraid of, it was Daleks. There was something about their brutality that terrified her and she got cold at the mere mention of their name. She was clenching the sleeves over-sized jumper and biting her lip while waiting for them to storm through the door. I installed an automatic force field that turns on when the TARDIS feels it's in danger, so that wasn't going to happen. "It'll be fine." I clasped her shaking hands with reassurance. She still looked petrified, but she relaxed her shoulders slightly when I smiled. "Doctor, what's going on?" Lucy swung her legs innocently and I caught Tardis' eyes for approval before jumping up to Lucy's side. "I had a plan, but we have to stop really quick." I smiled even though Lucy couldn't see a thing. She nods and swings her feet again before I stand back up to face Tardis. She was behind me, legs shaking, waiting for me to tell her what to do.
With a supportive hand on her shoulder, I tried to get her to be a little more positive. "There's no way they can get past the force field, and if they do, I won't let them get either of you." She attacked me with a big hug and I patted her back. "I've got a new plan, but I need you to carry Lucy and make sure you're quiet." I knew the idea of leaving the safety of the TARDIS didn't rest well with my daughter, but I also knew that she'd follow me and keep Lucy safe. With a nod, she turns towards Lucy to inform her what's going on. While she was doing so, I pulled up the TARDIS' monitor to see if I could get a floor plan pulled up. All Dalek ships were the same, so if I could just freshen my memory up, then we'd be good to go. Their teleporters were on the lowest floor, and their cockpit was on the top floor. According to the layout, the docks for the tracker beam were right above the teleporters; we just needed to get past the Daleks outside. If I could just get the TARDIS one more floor down somehow... CLANG! We all jumped at the noise from outside and I put my arm out behind me to protect Tardis and Lucy from the danger outside. "We have to get out eventually, so let's go show 'em who they're messing with." I smirk and Tardis scoops Lucy up before we slowly edge towards the door.
When I swung it open, I gestured for Tardis to just wait inside and closed the door behind me. "It's the Doctooooor!" All the Daleks reacted to my name with flailing of their plunger hands and death rays. "The Daaaaleks have finally thwarted your attempts to stop us!" They all "cheered" and calmed down once more. With a quick sideways glance at the Dalek to my right, I reply, "You may have trapped me on your ship, but that just makes my job easier." I lied, it actually made it a tad difficult, but I didn't want to tell them that. This got a reaction out of them because they hated it when there was even a possibility a species was better than them. That's their purpose: to seek out all species who are inferior to the Daleks and rid them of their nuisances. Behind the Dalek to my left was a switch, and if I'm not mistaken, that was an airlock switch. The TARDIS was pretty much bolted to the ground and wasn't going to move, but I'm sure the Daleks weren't... "That is impossible! We have taken you and your ship prisoner!" One Dalek screeched with fury. "You Daleks are really stupid, aren't you?" I started. If this didn't grind their gears, I don't know what did. In a furious rage, one of the Daleks tried to shoot, but it bounced right off, just a few inches away from the airlock switch. "Daleks aren't inferior, they are superior!" I laughed as convincing as possible and paced around in the little space I had. "You just don't get it do you?" Their curiosity was being piqued, to know what more I had to insult about them. "It's the Daleks who are inferior, not me, or the humans. That's why you go around killing, don't you? You just can't take that you are lower than them!" The Daleks started to spin around and I quickly left the bubble of force field to point my sonic screwdriver at the switch. Immediately I pulled my hand back and jumped into my blue box. The emergency safety system would kick in and close the doors eventually, but I wanted to see if my plan worked.
With haste, I hopped over to the screen and changed the view to outside. Just as I'd hoped: the pressure inside pushed the Daleks out into space and the doors were shutting now. The pressure levels outside returned to normal and I tried to find Tardis and Lucy. "D-Dad?" Tardis' voice emanated from behind the console and their heads popped out to see if I was really he re. "Dad!" Tardis was crying while holding Lucy, who was shaking with fright. "We heard shooting, then we heard some screaming and other noises and-" Her voice gave into the sobs and she started bawling. I let her dig her face into my shirt and I pulled away reluctantly. "We gotta move before they come back with even more force." Before we left, I ran to the console and dug through the compartment full of random items before I found matching "I (heart) NNY" buttons. "Here." I pinned it on to Tardis' jumper and then attached my own to my coat. "What's this?" She sniffled. "We can keep in contact if we get separated." I explained briefly then grabbed her hand while the doors swung open by themselves and ran. With the image of the map in my mind, I turned at some corners, trying to find the elevator to go down to the teleporters. Tardis was keeping up with me fine even while holding little Lucy, who was surprisingly calm at the moment. At the last corner, I pushed a button for the elevator and waited anxiously. When the doors opened, I wasn't expecting to see it empty; I really thought the Daleks would arrive here faster.
The button for the lower floor lit up after I pressed it and the elevator fell at an alarming rate and landed smoothly. We all ran out, ready to find the teleporters, but Lucy tapped my shoulder rapidly when we were in the dark corridor. "Yes, Lucy?" I looked back and she whispered, "I hear someone coming." "Which way?" She pointed in the direction we were heading, and I tried not to grumble. It was hard to tell if they were far or not, but I found a little nook to hide us in and waited silently. We all held our breaths and stayed as still as statues as the two Daleks passed us. I felt Tardis' hand rise in temperature and her pulse quickened. As we were tiptoeing out of our hiding spot, Lucy, out of all the times, sneezed. "Achoo!" She squeaked softly, but it was enough to echo throughout the once-empty corridor. "What was that noise?" A Dalek voice questioned his companion. "It sounded like a human noise." I could tell that they realized we were down here. "Run!" I whispered and pulled the girls behind me as we took off. An alarm went off, and the dark corridor started to blink red with a siren echoing in our brains.
There were more Daleks down here than I'd expected, because a dozen of them flooded from another corridor ahead of us. We were forced to turn left, and I lost track of where we were according to the map. We ran for no more than two seconds before more Daleks appeared ahead. I ran back a step and sprinted down the right path, away from that crowd. Fortunately, I'd reached the teleporters. "We made it!" I exclaimed by raising my arms in victory, then realized I was missing something. "Tardis? Lucy?" They'd disappeared. "Tardis!" I panicked, but remembered my button on my coat. I poked it once and spoke into it. "Tardis? Can you hear me? Tardis!" I found the controls for the teleporters and started to click the keys at the speed of light. "Dad? I'm sorry! I wasn't following you and-" She screamed and I heard the Daleks' unmistakable gunshot. "Dad, I'm scared!" I stopped typing for a moment, and fell into this trance. I'd hoped to never hear those words come out of her mouth, seeing as I had to protect her and made sure she always felt safe. "Don't be, just make sure you use that clever brain of yours. Now, you and Lucy are small enough; there should be a vent somewhere, there's a couple on this floor, actually. Find one of them, and crawl in." I heard multiple "EXTERMINATE!"s from her end and called her name once more, just to make sure. "I'm here, Dad. Found one!" She exclaimed, and I heard her unscrew the squeaky screws of the ventilation grille and a clang. "Once you're in, hold the grille shut and turn your button off by tapping it twice." She acknowledged my instructions and I heard her end go dead, but not without her saying, "I love you, Dad."
Author's Note: I'm SOOOO sorry that it's been so long! I had to juggle marching band, choir, and homework these first couple months of school and haven't had time to write until now! I hope you're liking it so far, I know I am! Well, see you next chapter!
