Hello everyone, it's me! Sorry, but this chapter is a little short ^^; It's late and I'm beginning to get tired, besides I established all I wished to. Read and review, hope you all enjoy.

"Again." Shadow demanded, the young guardian punching the hedgehog's gloved hand. She was breathing heavily, it turned out that her body and power weren't meant for long fights. Her body consumed massive amounts of Chaos Energy, fighting or sparing consumed even more than normal.

"Ah..." Femur gasped as she fell to her knees, breathing desperately. Shadow took a step towards her in what seemed to be concern. "I...I can't..." Before she could finish her sentence, everything went black.

"W...what...?" The girl asked as she sat up, finding herself beside her charge.

"You seemed to have used up too much energy. You returned to a corpse." She looked up to see the black and red male standing dutifully in front of her charge.

"How long was I...?"

"A few hours." He responded.

Right...we healed Aunty just yesterday, I suppose that and sparing used up too much of the Master Emerald's energy...it's not limitless and it does have to keep this island afloat. The undead girl realised, slowly standing. "I'm fine now." She said, despite knowing her trainer wasn't going to ask.

"That's enough for today." The full-blood stated, the girl nodding. He began to walk down the stairs.

"What are you doing?" The hybrid asked curiously.

"Getting myself food. I'll be staying until you're properly trained." The anti-hero explained, activating his hover shoes and dashing down the stairs.

"He's...staying?!" The blue and red girl's muzzle turned as red as her fur in blush, hands on her cheeks and covering her eyes in embarrassment.

"He's hiding something." Masa insisted as he appeared.

"Should you really be here?" The glowing eyed girl questioned, the projection glaring at her. "Right. Anyway...you're probably right, it isn't like him to stay here for long periods of time." Suddenly the girl looked sad, sitting down with her chin on her fist and elbow on her knee.

"Femur?" The green echidna asked, looking worried. The girl in turn gave a sad smile.

"I'm sorry...I was just hoping that he wanted to stay here simply for that reason. You telling me that...I guess it just broke that hope..." She specified sadly, moving to face where the man had dashed off to.

"Femur, I'm -"

"It's fine...I'd like you to follow him, see if you can find anything out. He does have a bit of a tendency to talk to himself."

"...Right." The purple eyed boy nodded, disappearing to Shadow's side.

"A promise...to protect...I never should have agreed to this." Shadow muttered unhappily, sighing to himself. "Why did he ask me to protect her anyway, Faker's the one who screwed up." He growled, sighing again as he tried to came himself. Trying to find food was difficult for him, he didn't know this island...but he was a bit concerned about the island's guardian and hadn't wanted her to use up too much energy so soon after returning to normal.

"Hey Shadow, I need to ask for a huge favor...a promise, actually...I screwed up big when I saw Femur again, and I'm pretty sure she doesn't want to see me...ever. So...could you protect her for me?"

"He said that mechanic friend of his had something stolen that he'd been working on...to absorb Chaos Energy...that glove she talked about sounds like it might be what had been taken." The full-blood realised, deciding it best to return without food.

"A promise..." Masa murmured, disappearing to find his guardian.

"I'm not that girl..." Femur sighed sadly, gathering peaches and grapes along with some fish. She'd assumed that her secret crush wouldn't know where to look for food, so she was getting some for him to bring back to the shrine.

"Femur, it's...you're crying..." Masa appeared, only to stop upon seeing the tears slowly dripping down the girl's face. His guardian gasped, turning to face him before wiping her eyes.

"Not right now, ok?" She asked, voice breaking slightly.

"Yeah...I'll tell you later." He agreed before disappearing entirely.

"Couldn't find anything?" Femur asked as Shadow reached the top of the shrine, seeing food laid out for him by a smiling guardian.

"...No." He admitted, sitting down and grabbing a cooked fish before digging into it. The hybrid laughed softly.

"I got some for you." She assured him, still smiling.

"...Are you alright?" The full-blood asked, the girl's smile faltering for a moment before returning to normal...the male wasn't entirely sure he'd seen it to begin with.

"I'm fine, just a little weak still." The undead girl responded, the hedgehog noticing that she hadn't opened her eyes since he'd seen her after leaving. He became certain that his rival's daughter was lying, but was unsure how to get the truth from her without being cold or harsh...in the end he decided to leave it as is for now. "I'm going to 'sleep'. I'll see you later." The glowing eyed girl said suddenly, lying down and her breathing stop almost immediately.

"Sleep may be a good idea." The red eyed male realised as he saw the sun nearly down, leaning against a broken pillar and falling into slumber himself.

A promise to protect and a broken heart from a promise...those two things don't usually go well together. Let's hope things turn out better for Femur soon, poor girl deserves it. Hope you all enjoyed, see you all later ^^
