This is the one-hundredth third chapter in the Pokemon Heroes story. Brendan's ability that he gets with his hair will be further explained in this chapter. Enjoy!

(Opening song)
"Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit!" muttered May as she ran through the forest, trying to find a safe place in the dark night. She had been separated from her friends not too far back, and she was looking for them. Once again, for the second time in a row, the bounty hunters had found their hiding spot after camping out there for a day. It was getting late, and she was getting worried. She heard rustling behind her in the bushes. After not hearing it for a while, she took a break to breathe in a couple times as he sat by a tree.
"I wish Ash was here," mumbled May.
"I'll take you to him."
"Really?"
"Nope," said Lee as he popped out from behind the trees and dug his nails through the tree. May screamed in fear and jumped out of the way while kicking Lee in his crotch by instinct.
"You bitch," muttered Lee as he held on to his crotch area. May started running again. She got to a cliff. She looked behind her and saw Lee staggering towards her.
"There's nowhere to go," asked Lee. "Don't even think about jumping, because..."
"Jump, May!" yelled Dawn at the bottom. May looked and saw Dawn and Brendan below the cliff. She immediately jumped off and landed in Brendan's arms. After letting her down, they started running again. Lee watched them go and sighed. Riku popped up from behind him.
"You're just toying with them now, aren't you?" he asked. Lee looked at him and smirked.
"I need a little fun, or else this would be too easy," said Lee. "Ever since that Aura Guardian left, this is no longer fun."
"I don't care if it isn't fun. Our main goal is to obtain the power, not to have fun."
"Yeah, yeah," said Lee. "So when can I kill them all?"
"When you see them," said Riku in a low growl as he sternly looked at Lee, who held his hands up.
"Alright, alright, I got it," said Lee. "Let's go get them!" He jumped off the cliff.
The Truth
Brendan, May, and Dawn kept on running. They didn't look behind them. They didn't want to look behind them, fear that the bounty hunters would be close behind. Suddenly, thunder was heard in the distance, and May tripped in shock. Brendan and Dawn stopped and walked back to her to check if she was okay.
"You okay?" asked Dawn.
"Yeah," said May as she rubbed her head. Thunder was heard again. Brendan looked off to the distance and saw thunder strike the ground someplace else and felt the first drops of rain.
"We have to get to someplace away from the rain," said Brendan.
"We passed by a cave not too far from here," said Dawn. "We can rest there for a while."
"Yeah," said Brendan. "We have to be careful though. It's like we're walking back to them." They walked carefully through the rocky area, taking a different path from where they were running. Within ten minutes, they made it to the cave entrance. They immediately set up camp there. They made a fire and sat around it in silence as they heard the thunder outside rage on. May looked at her silent friends, and drew a smile on her face.
"Wanna have something to eat?" asked May. Brendan scratched his head, and then lied down.
"I'm not feeling up to it now," said Brendan. He saw the sad expression on May's face, and saw Dawn glare at him. He sighed.
"Fine."
After feeding the girls, Brendan waited for them to sleep. They slept close together, and Dawn made sure Brendan's sleeping bag was also next to them, but Brendan moved it. He wasn't going to sleep anyway. He just watched the two girls sleep, ignoring the thunder outside, which began to calm down. He buried his face into his hands.
"That hair holds special powers," Brendan remembered Lee saying "What did he mean by that?"
Brendan took Dawn's mirror from her bag and examined himself. He didn't look like he could control Pokemon. Anybody can control any type of Pokemon at any time as long as they build a bond with them. How can hair control Pokemon? He hadn't told the girls what the bounty hunters were really after. To ease May's mind, Brendan told her that while he fought with them in Olivine City, they told him that they no longer had any intention on taking May. They were just chasing them just for the fun of it. If he ever told them the truth, they would be worried, and he didn't want that. Against people who were way stronger than them was impossible for Brendan.
"If only Ash was here," Brendan found himself thinking, but he immediately slapped his forehead. He was actually happy Ash was gone for two reasons: one was because he never enjoyed how Ash would kill himself for them, so he wanted him to have a break in doing that. The other reason was because he approved of the boy's training completely. The stronger Ash got, the safer their lives would be. He wanted everything to be over so he can stay peacefully with Dawn and he wouldn't have to worry about her every second. He just banged his head against the wall. It was because of him that they were in danger, and he could do nothing to protect them. The bounty hunters were just too strong.
"Maybe I should just give myself in to them," thought Brendan. Once again, he slapped himself. He was just so confused. Those bounty hunters were crazy. Even when they got him, they'd go after his friends to finish them off. He slowly stood up and looked outside. The rain was calming down, so it would be safe to go outside now. He looked back at the girls and walked over to Dawn. He kissed her forehead, and started walking out.
"Remember to always wear a raincoat in the rain," he remembered her telling him. "You could get sick."
"Yeah, you're right."
He walked over to his bag and took out his raincoat and then walked outside.
Brendan walked through the rocky terrain with ease, trying hard not to trip due to the rain. It was still late. Being out this late at this time would be very dangerous, but right now he didn't care. He was really waiting. He was waiting for that one person to show up.
"I didn't know you'd be that stupid. You've got a death wish or something?"
Brendan shuddered. He slowly turned around and saw Lee staring at him with his arms crossed. He was looking at Brendan with a confused expression. Brendan tried to look sternly at him, but he couldn't. In all truth, he wanted to look away from the man. Lee removed his gloves and Brendan watched his nails extend. The sight sent chills down his spine. Sweat started to come down his face and his teeth were chattering, but he didn't show it.
"I'm actually glad you showed up when I wished you would," said Lee. "I was starting to get worried that Riku was going to beat me up. I guess it was the wrong day to take a walk."
"I purposely walked out this," said Brendan.
"And why the hell would you do that?"
"I wanted to see you again."
"No homo."
"I'm not playing a game," said Brendan. "I want you guys to stop hurting my friends. I want to stop you guys out here, not with them. I don't want them to get hurt." Lee stared at him and then started to chuckle.
"Idiot," he said as he tried to calm himself down. After he did, he took a deep breath.
"I find it funny how you talk just like your father."
Brendan's fists clenched. He now stared at the man sternly. Everytime Lee mentioned his father's death in a joking manner, he always got serious. After Lee stopped laughing, he looked back at Brendan seriously.
"Alrighty then," said Lee. "So what now? You're gonna talk to me all day?"
"No," said Brendan as he took out a Pokeball. "I'm done with you chasing us. I'm going to end this now."
"I dare you to try," said Lee. "Riku's looking at another part of this place. I'm so glad I got to meet you first."
"Shut up!" yelled Brendan as he threw the Pokeball and released Aggron. Lee smirked.
"Aggron, use Zen Headbutt!"
Aggron charged at Lee, but the man spun around to dodge. Aggron did so once again, but Lee dodged. Brendan threw another Pokeball out and released Mightyena.
"Mightyena, use Shadow Ball to hit him!" ordered Brendan. Mightyena shot out three shadow balls towards Lee, who took a step back as the attacks crashed on the ground in front of him, causing a cloud of smoke to go in front of him. Lee then burst through the smoke and tried to hit Brendan with his nails, but the boy ducked and released Pelipper in front of Lee, who popped out and flew away with Brendan towards the sky.
"Come on!" whined Lee. "What the hell, bro?! Get your ass down here and fight like a man!" Brendan planned to release Nuzleaf to fight, but the pain in his body was still present. He held the side of his body, which was in pain.
"Get down here or else I'm coming up there."
"Aggron, Mightyena, take care of him for me," said Brendan. Aggron used a hyper beam, but Lee dodged it once again. Mightyena used bite and tried biting Lee, but he easily grabbed its head and tossed it at Aggron, pushing both Pokemon back. Lee ran towards them and jumped and then used Aggron's face to jump even higher to Brendan. Brendan watched him in surprise, and then Lee grabbed his face and brought him towards the ground. Pelipper quickly reacted and flew down for its trainer, but the speed they were going in couldn't let Pelipper catch up to them. Brendan's heart was racing once again. His head could be crushed if he hit the ground. Lee was just laughing hysterically. Luckily, Pelipper came just in time and took Brendan while also smacking Lee towards the ground. Brendan started coughing, and then he patted his Pokemon's back.
"Thanks," said Brendan and he looked down to check if Lee sustained enough damage, but when he stood up, Brendan could see that not enough damage was done at all.
"Crap," thought Brendan.
"You're pretty good, kid," said Lee. "You're able to use your Pokemon to actually stand a chance against me. I'm not trying my best."
"You're not at your best yet?"
"Dude, you're just a kid, so what's the point of becoming a god just to kill you," said Lee. "Having this much control over your Pokemon makes me wonder if you've already mastered your powers yet."
"It gives the user the ability to control Pokemon." Brendan once again remembered Lee saying. He touched Pelipper's back.
"Let me down. Trust me."
Pelipper nodded and let the boy down in front of Lee. Aggron and Mightyena joined by him to make sure Lee doesn't try anything funny.
"I want to know about what you meant about me being able to control Pokemon?" asked Brendan. "How can just having different colored hair makes you become a supernatural bitch?"
"You really want to know?" asked Lee.
"Yes, of course," said Brendan. Lee looked around and smirked back at Brendan.
"Fine, I'll come clean with you since Riku isn't here," said Lee. "I'm forbidden to ever tell anyone, but since you're a main part in our plan, I'll let you in on it, but the truth may shock you."
"Bring it," said Brendan.
"Since the beginning of the creation of the Ransei region, there existed a family," said Lee. "They were called the Tenroujima Clan. Back then, there was only one royal in Ransei. Don't think that the Tenroujima Clan were peaceful people who made pancakes. These people were heartless. After a while, they decided that they should take over the whole government, but they knew that attacking them with their own armies was just stupid. The Tenroujima Clan was perfect at magic, they knew how to do all sorts of spells to help them in battle, so they decided to make a spell to aid building their army, and they aimed that at Pokemon."
"So this Tenroujima Clan is the whole reason this shit is happening to me?" asked Brendan.
"Not all of them," said Lee. "You see, after years of working, and I mean hundreds of years, they finally created one that'll control Pokemon, and this was called The Inheritance."
"I swear I heard that name before," thought Brendan.
"As royalty started to become split into separate powers, some denied going on with the plan since they've gotten weaker, so it was a better idea to give up, but the other side still wanted to fight. After a civil war, the Tenroujima Clan broke into two: the Obito and Tenrou Clan, but the fighting raged on. The Obito clan wanted peace while the Tenrou wanted power. On day, the Obito Clan stole The Inheritance. In order for them to not let the Tenrou Clan take it back, they put it into one person. That one person's hair turned white, and that's when the legacy started. The Obito and Tenrou Clans fell slowly, but its members lived on. Riku and I have descended from the Tenrou Clan, while your father, and you, descended from the Obito Clan."
"So you killed my father because he was in a clan?" asked Brendan.
"Not really," said Lee. "The Inheritance is passed down generation to generation, usually before death. The Obito Clan's job was to protect The Inheritance while the Tenrou Clan spent years trying to take it back. Here we are now, continuing the cycle. You and me. I need to kill you to retrieve the power."
"The Inheritance can control Pokemon?" asked Brendan, ignoring Lee, as he touched his hair. "Why?"
"We killed your father to take The Inheritance, but it surprised us how quickly he transferred it into you," said Lee. "We thought he died with it, so we thought our mission was over, and no one will be able to get The Inheritance, but you came along, and we're gonna take it."
"So my father died protecting this, and he gave it to me because he knew I'd protect it," said Brendan, still ignoring what Lee was saying.
"Hey, don't ignore me," said Lee, slightly annoyed. "Just come over here and give me your power." Brendan looked at Lee, and Lee was surprised when he saw his face. Brendan was looking at him with no fear, only a stern brave look.
"I understand everything now," said Brendan angrily. "My father entrusted this power to me because he trusted me. I'm not going to go against his will and do nothing. I'm gonna make sure it is never used for evil. I'm going to protect this power. I'm not letting you have it." Lee snickered.
"I knew telling you that would get you hyped up," said Lee as he stood in a fighting position, ready to charge at Brendan, who once again showed no fear against him. He just stood there, waiting for Lee to deliver the first attack.
"Humph."
Lee stood up straight and walked away. Brendan raised an eyebrow.
"Where the hell are you going?" asked Brendan. "Get back here and fight me."
"I'm not gonna fight you, not now," said Lee as he kept on walking.
"I said get your ass here and fight me!" yelled Brendan. "Aggron, use Hyper Beam, Mightyena, use Shadow Pulse, and Pelipper, use Hydro Pump!" All Brendan's Pokemon used their powerful attacks and they all struck Lee at once. A huge explosion resulted from it. They were all in the cloud of smoke. Their vision was blurred. Without Brendan noticing, each of his Pokemon were getting knocked out one by one. He felt a tap on his shoulder, and when he turned, he saw Lee standing behind him, once again unscathed, and he took Brendan by his collar and crashed him against a tree with his nails at Brendan's neck. Brendan still wasn't afraid.
"You've turned into a tough son of a bitch in one day," said Lee. "If you really want to fight me that much, then I'll allow you to." He then dropped Brendan to the ground, but the boy still tried to get back up, but Lee placed his foot on his stomach to prevent that.
"We'll do this one-on-one, just like you want," said Lee. "To tell you the truth, I really saw you kids enter that cave a long time ago, but I decided not to kill any of you because I wanted to have more fun. You walking out was even better. I can't kill you right now because Riku would get pissed. I was just planning to beat you a couple times and then leave. How about tomorrow, I'll get Riku to stay on the clear path of this area. If you want revenge for your father and the end of us chasing you, meet us there. Is that fair for you?" Brendan stopped his struggle to get up and glared at Lee.
"I'll take that as a yes," said Lee as he got his foot off Brendan and once again walked away. "See ya later then." He then jumped into the trees and disappeared. Brendan was leaning against the tree. His Pokemon came to him to check if he was okay, and he smiled and petted their heads.
"I swear I won't let anybody else get hurt anymore from those guys," thought Brendan. "I'm gonna beat them for you dad."
The next day, Brendan walked in open land. It was rocky with medium sized rocks around the area. He continued to walk until he saw two familiar figures in the distance. As he walked, they came more into view, and standing there were Lee and Riku. They were waiting.
"So you were right," said Riku. "I thought you just wanted to impress me by saying that you overheard their plans to come here, but I only see one."
"I guess he left the others behind," said Lee. Brendan finally stood in front of them and glared at both.
"You know why we're here," said Riku. Brendan didn't say anything. He just stared at the men in front of him. He wasn't shaking. He wasn't scared. He was brave.
"He's...different," thought Riku. From behind a rock in the distance, May and Dawn stood behind it. They watched Brendan stand before the bounty hunters. May was tempted to take out a Pokeball and help.
"We have to help him," said May. "He could get hurt again."
"Not yet," said Dawn. "We promised we wouldn't come with him."
"But you made us come anyway," said May.
"I know, I know," said Dawn. "Let's just wait."
Flashback
"I met one of those guys last night," said Brendan, which was the first thing Dawn and May heard when they woke up. Dawn immediately went towards Brendan and checked his body.
"Did they hurt you?" she asked. "Where does it hurt? Did they do anything to you? Why didn't you wake us up?"
"I didn't want you guys to get hurt," said Brendan.
"Well, did he hurt you?" asked Dawn.
"No, not at all," said Brendan. "We just talked."
"Talked about what?"
"He told me stuff. He even agreed that I'll meet with him down the area. I'm going."
"Why would you do something like that?" asked May. "It's too dangerous."
"Because I have a score to settle with those basterds," said Brendan. Dawn saw the fierce anger in his eyes. She understood why.
"I-I want to help," she said. "I wanna come with you and help." Brendan put on a smile and looked at her.
"Nope," he said. "This is my job. I want you girls to stay here. If I don't come back within twenty-four hours, I want you to call Ash with the Pokewatch. I know he told us not to call him while he's training, but this is an exception. Got it?" Dawn didn't reply. She just slowly nodded. Brendan smiled. After eating breakfast, Brendan started to head out. Dawn didn't say a word. Brendan put his hand on her head and looked into her eyes.
"I'll try to come back," said Brendan. "You girls stay here and wait for me. Remember that I love you." Dawn nodded, and then Brendan went out. As soon as he was gone, Dawn stood and walked over to May.
"Come on," said Dawn. "We're going with him."
End of Flashback
Dawn watched Brendan take out a Pokeball from his belt. Riku started to move towards the boy, but Lee stopped him.
"I'll take care of him," said Lee. "You sit back and watch." As Lee stepped up, he took off his gloves and his nails extended.
"You ready for this, kid?" he asked.
"I'm gonna make you pay, basterd," said Brendan. Dawn was eager to step out and help Brendan, but she was too scared if he'd get mad if she did so. She just had to wait and see if Brendan really had this under control.
"I believe in you, Brendan," thought Dawn. "You're gonna come back safe. I know you will." May looked on quietly. She was worried, but she was too weak to do anything. Of course she wanted Ash to be there, but she knew he wouldn't be here quick enough or even know they were in trouble. But at that very moment, through her eyes, someone else was also looking through them.
Ash opened his eyes as he was meditating with Lnoki on a rock. He looked towards the sun.
"Focus, boy," said Lnoki.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," said Ash as he went back to meditating.
(Ending Song)
Next Time on Pokemon Heroes: As Brendan and Lee's fight starts, memories of Brendan's past start to flood Brendan's mind. It was that time that everything changed, and it was that day that the bounty hunters came. How will Brendan beat Lee, and how will Ash know his friends are in trouble? Next Time: That Time.
That was that chapter. Finally, ever since this season came out, we'll get some flashback of the time Brendan's father died. We'll also get to see the connection between Brendan and Dawn in the next two chapters and how they met and how they came together. Don't think Ash won't come at all to this fight, because he will soon. See you next chapter!
