(Opening song)

The ground beneath Ash's foot broke as he kept on running through the forest. Lnoki was having a hard time keeping up with him. Drew, due to him not being able to run that fast, flew in the air with his Flygon to catch up, with Pikachu with him so that they wouldn't get lost. Ash stopped and climbed up to the top of a tree to look out. Lnoki followed and Drew made Flygon fly by Ash.

"Do you even know where you're going?" asked Drew. "Maybe we can use Pikachu's nose to look for them."

"No," said Ash. "Pikachu can't smell a scent from that far."

"Then how do you know where we're going?"

"I know where I'm going," said Ash. "Trust me."

"Ash, are you sure you saw them in trouble?" asked Lnoki. "Heading to them and seeing that they're perfectly okay will just be a waste of time."

"I am absolutely fucking sure," said Ash as he looked in one direction. He stared at it, and then jumped down from the tree and started running. Lnoki and Drew ran after him. Ash felt that she was close. The closer he got, the more emotions he felt inside him.

"I'm coming, May," thought Ash. "Just hang in there until I come."

Be my Side

Brendan, May, and Dawn were still with Lee and Riku. After getting beaten, Dawn and May decided that they should help Brendan, but Brendan stopped them because he wanted to face Lee alone. He didn't want the girls to get hurt for something that he wanted. Aggron and Mightyena were fighting by his side. Lee smirked.

"Like that's going to work," said Lee. "Pokemon are so easy to beat. I just have to stab them."

"Not my Pokemon," said Brendan. "I know I can beat you with them."

"I'd really like to see you try," said Lee as he motioned for Brendan to come at him.

"Aggron, use Hyper Beam!" ordered Brendan. Aggron shot a beam of light at Lee, but he jumped out of the way. He came down as he tried to strike Aggron, but it moved back and shot another hyper beam at Lee's face, pushing the man back so hard he rolled across the ground, but easily got to his feet.

"Oi," said Lee as he patted himself from the dust. "Your Pokemon are tough. I'll give you credit for that. That's the reason I haven't killed you yet. I can instantly kill you just like I've done with others. I'm purposely going easy on you because I really like that face you're giving me. It makes me feel so superior to you. Wanna hold still while I take a picture of it?"

"Go fuck yourself," said Brendan. "I don't want you to go easy on me. I want you to come at me with everything you've got." Lee raised an eyebrow, and then smirked.

"Alright," said Lee. "You asked for it." Lee crashed his nails on the ground. This maneuver reminded Brendan of that time, but he shook it off. He looked around and felt the ground shake. Multiple, sharp nails came out. Brendan tried dodging them, but they some cut him anyway. Lee brought back his nails and looked at Brendan. The boy had cuts on his body and one on his cheek. During the attack, his headband fell off his head, landing on the ground. He wiped the blood from his cheek and smiled.

"That's more like it," said Brendan. May and Dawn found it stupid at what Brendan was trying to do, but they didn't interrupt.

"We just have to wait," said May. "Everything will get better once he comes." Dawn had no idea what May as saying, but she ignored it and looked out to Brendan. Sweat was coming down from her face. He always did reckless stuff, and they got more dangerous everytime. She looked at the scar on Brendan's forehead. Suddenly, she remembered what happened back then. It was that time when she realized how important Brendan was to her.

Flashback

She was always that quiet girl. She wasn't shy or anything. She was just quiet. She spoke when she was spoken to, and she wasn't the one to always get into trouble. She had friends. She had so many that she could be considered popular, but she didn't like actually being called popular. She got embarrassed easily, and she didn't like being the center of attention. She had a great fashion sense. She enjoyed learning about Pokemon, and did great in school. Her friends always asked her the question that most girls ask each other.

"Who do you think is the cutest boy in the classroom right now?"

Dawn hadn't shown interest in anyone. She had very little interactions with boys. Everytime her friends asked her that question, she just brushed it off, but they considered it as a gesture that she did like someone, which she found stupid. It wasn't until that day she actually had interest in at least knowing that boy better.

"And that is how a Pikachu can beat an Onix."

That day when Brendan stood in front of the whole class and explained how a Pikachu can beat an Onix with his ridiculous speech fascinated her. She found it amazing how he could stand in front of the class and easily say something that stupid with not a hint of embarrassment on his face. Like everyone else, she thought he was retarded. After that, her friends talked about Brendan nonstop. They insulted him and said mean remarks, but Dawn neither paid attention to them or said anything.

"We should check if his brain will work after we hit him with this hairbrush," said one of her friends with a smirk on her face. It was Dawn's hairbrush that was thrown at the boy because she lost the game of rock-paper-scissors. When she got it back, she was glad he wasn't too angry. When she was walking away from him after that, happiness swelled her heart. She actually talked to him. She turned back with a smile on her face.

"My name is Dawn Blertz."

She skipped away in happiness when he boringly waved back.

After that day, she had been watching Brendan endlessly. She watched him so much that she stared at him in public, making people tell her that she had a crush on him. At that time, she really didn't. She was just fascinated of him. She even started writing his name in her books without her noticing. One day, she heard something terrifying: Brendan's house was on fire. After that, everyone worried about Brendan. He didn't go to school for two weeks after that. Many thought he died. Another news broke out through the Ransei region two weeks later after learning that Sir Aaron had possibly died, but she didn't care. All her mind was set on was Brendan. She was amazingly happy when Brendan finally came back to school, but he was absolutely different. His cheerful, annoying smile was no longer on his face. A saddened expression was shown. What amazed everyone in class was his hair color. It was white and spiky. Why would he do that? Many found it annoying that the teacher hadn't yelled at Brendan because of it, but she learned after that he allowed Brendan to do it for a reason that she didn't know. Brendan no longer bothered others in class. He still didn't get good grades, but it was worse. He barely talked, and he sat alone most of the time. After a while, he started to drift away from his friends. The sympathetic students suddenly turned into annoyed bullies. They started to criticize Brendan for his hair. Some asked if he had gone emo. During break time, he continued to sit under that tree and just slept until it was time to go back inside.

"We should throw this rock at his head and see what he does," said one of Dawn's friends. The girls nodded, but Dawn didn't. She felt bad for Brendan for some reason.

"Wait!" yelled Dawn before that girl threw the rock. They all looked at Dawn with their eyebrows raised.

"What's wrong, Dawn?" asked the girl who was going to throw the rock. The word just suddenly got out of Dawn. She didn't know why she said it. She blushed and twiddled her finger.

"I, um, I don't think w-we sh-should throw that at him," stuttered Dawn. The girls just stared at her.

"But, Dawn, we have to," said another girl. "He's been depressed lately. We just want him to say something. We're just helping him."

"That's not one way to help him," said Dawn, actually having anger in her voice. She hadn't noticed it, but her friends did. The girl holding the rock dropped it and put her hands behind her head.

"Fine, we won't do it," she said. "Let's go over there and talk to the other girls until our break is over." As they walked away, Dawn stayed where she was.

"I-I'll be there," she said. When her friends walked away, she slowly went towards Brendan. His back was turned to her.

"Hey," she said. "Can I sit here?" Brendan didn't answer. After waiting for about a minute, Dawn slowly say next to Brendan, just in case he was going to yell at her for sitting there. He didn't. She just sat there, doing nothing but looking at the sky. She took quick glances at Brendan. After a few minutes, she smiled and turned to him.

"If you're sad, you don't have to be forever," said Dawn. "Everything will get better soon. Did something happen?" Brendan didn't answer back. She crawled to him and started shaking him to check if he was awake.

"Are you okay?" she asked. "Are you sick?" Brendan smacked her hand away. She looked at him surprisingly, and then looked towards the ground and frowned. Brendan looked at her, and then turned away.

"I'm fine," he said, making Dawn put her head up and she looked at him. "Just leave me alone, alright?" Dawn stared at him, and then smiled.

"Nope," she said. "I'll be back tomorrow, alright?" Brendan didn't respond. Dawn got up and walked away. She had no idea what came over her. Usually, she wouldn't be able to talk to a boy normally, but she did it with Brendan, and it made her feel so good. She felt like Brendan was different to her.

The next day, like she promised, Dawn came back to Brendan, who was still the same. This time, she brought her lunch with her. When she sat by Brendan, she opened her lunchbox and pulled out a zip lock bag with cookies inside. She opened it and took one out. She went to Brendan and shook him. He opened his eyes and looked at her. She showed him the cookie.

"My mom helped me make them," said Dawn. "Tell me if they taste good." Brendan looked at it, mumbled something, and then placed his head back down. Dawn sat down and frowned while looking at the cookie. Brendan looked back, and then his eye twitched. He swiftly took the cookie and took a bite from it. Dawn looked at him and smiled.

"How is it?"

"Good," replied Brendan after finishing it.

"Good, because I made you a whole bag of them." said Dawn as she pulled out another bag filled with cookies. Brendan's eyes widened.

"Why?" he asked.

"Just in case you get hungry, or something," said Dawn. "You said they were good, right?" Brendan looked at her one more time, and then sighed.

"Yes," he mumbled as he took the bag. He lied back down. Dawn looked up at the sky. They sat together in silence until Dawn started to talk again.

"When I was walking home with my friends yesterday, we saw this beautiful dress at a store," said Dawn. "I wanted to get it, but I couldn't because it was too big for me. I think when I'm twenty I can."

"I don't care," replied Brendan, but Dawn kept talking about cute clothes she saw. Once again, she didn't know what was happening. She just felt like talking to Brendan, and had no problem doing so, making her happy. The whole time she was talking, Brendan's remarks had begun to lessen. Dawn knew he wasn't listening, but she talked anyway, glad that he was at least there.

Everyday after that, Dawn always sat by Brendan to talk to him. With every passing day, Brendan actually started to talk back, asking Dawn questions of her stories. At that time, he no longer lied down to listen to her. He now sat up. He still had that sad expression on his face. She was even happier when he started to tell her stories as well. Her friends and classmates started to think she was weird, but she ignored them. Brendan started to get better grades as well, but it was the same averaged grades he got before. Dawn was happy of this. A few months passed, and Dawn went out of school in break time. She looked under the tree, and she didn't see Brendan. She saw him come to school today.

"Did you see Brendan?" Dawn asked another student passing by.

"We saw him heading towards the woods," he said. "He's not allowed to do that though. He could get into big trouble."

"What part of the woods did he enter?"

"Right down there," the kid said. "Why?" Dawn started running in that direction. She entered the woods without a second thought. She could see that Brendan passed by, since she saw her cookies littered on the ground. She followed them until she heard someone walking by. She saw Brendan, eating her cookies, walking down the trail. She chased after him. When she got close to him, she touched his back, making him stop and turn back to her.

"What?" he asked.

"You're not supposed to be leaving school grounds unless you're told to," said Dawn. "You'll get into trouble."

"Like I care," said Brendan as he walked forward. "Why are you here then?"

"I'm gonna bring you back," said Dawn. "It's dangerous here. We don't have Pokemon yet."

"I have Pokemon."

"With you now?"

"No."

"Then that's not going to help us at all," said Dawn as she took Brendan's hand. "Come on. Let's go back." Brendan pulled his hand away from Dawn and kept walking. Dawn felt hurt, but she ran towards Brendan. For the next few minutes, they just walked. Break time had been over a while ago. Dawn didn't speak to Brendan at all. She just watched him eat her cookies, not caring if one fell. After a while, Dawn noticed that they weren't near school anymore.

"Do you know where we're going?" she asked.

"No," replied Brendan. Dawn stopped and looked around. She started to feel scared. She ran towards Brendan and held his sleeve.

"Why are you walking through the forest?" asked Dawn. Brendan didn't reply. After a while, Brendan started to talk.

"My dad died," said Brendan. Dawn froze. She wanted to make sure she heard him correctly.

"What?"

"I said my dad died," Brendan repeated. He started to get further away. Dawn followed him slowly.

"When?"

"A couple months ago."

"How come you never told me about this!?" yelled Dawn. "How?" Brendan looked like he was thinking.

"He was sick," said Brendan. Dawn looked to the ground. They walked in silence, and then Dawn looked back at Brendan.

"I'm sorry," she said. "Is that why you're sad and why you dyed your hair white?"

"Yeah, but I didn't dye my hair white," said Brendan.

"That's not possible," said Dawn. "Hair color could change after a period of time, but you're too young for that. How did your hair change?"

"I don't know," said Brendan in a low voice. "My mom suggested that I dye it a different color because they might...I mean my mom just didn't like it, but I said no. My dad had this hair. Just to remember him, I wanted to keep this."

"Then why don't you tell those bullies that!?" Dawn asked angrily. "If you don't, I will!" For the first time in a while, she saw Brendan give a weak smile as he shook his head.

"No, it's fine," said Brendan. "I-"

They heard a Pokemon screech. Brendan stopped as Dawn grabbed onto him. They looked around, but saw nothing. Brendan was about to tell Dawn that they should get moving, but then they heard the screech again. Strong winds pushed them. Brendan pushed her down. As the winds died down, Brendan was surprised at what he saw in the sky. It was a Salamence, soaring through the sky, giving a loud roar. Dawn was frozen. Salamence had spotted them.

"Run!" yelled Brendan as he stood and took Dawn's hand. Before she could talk, he started to run. Salamence followed them. Dawn wasn't good at running, so she felt exhausted quickly. Salamence flapped its wings again, hitting Brendan and Dawn with strong winds. They fell to the ground. Brendan got back up, but Dawn couldn't. She had scrapped her knee in the fall. She looked back at Salamence and gulped. It landed behind her, ready to attack. She screamed, but Brendan threw a rock at Salamence. He stood in front of Dawn.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

"I'm not letting you get hurt," said Brendan as he threw another rock at Salamence. It screeched and flew towards Brendan, hitting the boy so hard that Brendan got flung to a tree. He stood up and starting punching Salamence over and over again. The Pokemon now found Brendan as an annoyance. He activated Dragon Claw and almost cut Brendan with it, but the boy moved back in time, but claw marks were on his shirt. He punched it again, but Salamence knocked him away with its tail.

"Stop it," said Dawn, now worried of the boy. "I think I can get up now. We should start running…" While she tried to get up, Salamence placed its foot on Dawn. It screeched again, hurting Dawn's ears.

"Get your paw off her," said Brendan angrily. He tried standing up, but he felt weak. His weak body wasn't supposed to be fighting a big Pokemon. He forced himself to get up anyway. He ran towards Salamence to hit it again, but it flapped its wings, pushing Brendan back. He got back up immediately and picked up a few rocks and threw it at Salamence, who just smacked them away.

"I said get off of her!" yelled Brendan after he finished throwing rocks. "We will leave. This must be your place. We promise we'll leave." Salamence gave another screech, signifying that it said no.

"Just leave her alone!" yelled Brendan, who ran to it and punched its leg holding down Dawn, but it once again smacked him.

"Brendan, this Pokemon lives around here," said Dawn. "Go back into town and tell them it has me. They'll come save me. Just don't get hurt."

"No," said Brendan as he stood back up. "It's my fault I brought you into the woods. We're both going back to Twinleaf Town. I promise you that. I'm not going to let another person I care about leave my life!" Brendan looked at Salamence angrily. Dawn saw his eyes flash emerald green. He rushed towards Salamence at an amazing speed and clawed it across the face. What was special about it was that there was a purple aura around his fingertips. Salamence was slammed against a tree, releasing Dawn. Brendan looked at his hands amazed. Salamence got back up and looked at Brendan angrily. It flew towards him. Brendan shielded his head with his arms. Salamence made a Dragon Claw again. It almost hit Brendan, but it flew up. Its claw scratched Brendan on his forehead. Brendan fell to the ground. He looked up at the Salamence, who looked down at him in the air, and then it flew away.

"What was that about?" asked Brendan as he looked at Dawn. Dawn covered her mouth when she saw blood going down Brendan's face. Brendan touched his forehead and felt the blood.

"Ow."

The sun was going down. School had ended about an hour ago. Brendan and Dawn were still in the forest. The kids knew they'd get into trouble for this, but at the moment, they didn't care. Dawn bandaged Brendan's head.

"That's going to leave a scar," she said.

"I don't care," said Brendan as he touched it. Dawn sat down by Brendan on a rock.

"T-Thank you for helping me," said Dawn.

"No problem," said Brendan. "Just be more careful next time, okay?" Dawn smiled as she looked at Brendan.

"That scar's going to be pretty ugly later though," said Dawn. Brendan smiled. He finally smiled after a couple months of not doing it.

"I don't care," said Brendan. "Let's keep going. Twinleaf Town is down there somewhere. Stay close to me." Dawn nodded.

The next day, during break time, Brendan looked into a mirror as he looked at the scar on his forehead. He groaned. It still hurt. As he sat under the tree, Dawn came towards him. She looked like she was hiding something behind her back.

"Hey Brendan," said Dawn.

"Hey Dawn," said Brendan. "What do you want?" She took out what was behind her back and gave it to Brendan. It was his trademark headband. The black headband with a red Pokemon symbol in front.

"It's for your head," she said. "I got it to cover that scar. I didn't know what color you wanted it in. My friends told me boys like dark and cool stuff, so I thought that was good." Brendan looked at it, and then placed the headband on his head. After looking at a mirror, he smiled.

"I love it," said Brendan. "Thanks."

After that, Brendan and Dawn were hanging out most of the time. They were close friends. Two years past, and Brendan was now eleven while Dawn was now ten. They had a lot of fun with each other. Later on, Dawn talked to her mom about what her feelings for Brendan were about. After finding out that it was really a crush she had for Brendan, she started to rethink her experiences with him. This continued until that one day when she finally stopped Brendan by a lake. She told him her feelings. She remembered how she kept on slurring her words and screwing it up, making her repeat them. She remembered Brendan's expression. The expression that showed he had no idea what she was talking about. After a while, she finally got it out.

"I l-l-l-l-love you," said Dawn in a very low voice. Everything was silent. She didn't think he heard. She was about to say it again, but Brendan hugged her.

"I love you too," he said with a smile on his face. That was the time they first became a couple. A year later, while picking flowers in a field, a girl fell from the sky in front of Dawn. Her name was May Maple. That was when their adventure with Ash and May began,

End of Flashback

Dawn came back to reality after hearing Brendan hit the ground. He was beaten up. Aggron and Mightyena were exhausted. Lee sighed. He walked towards Brendan and kicked the boy. May and Dawn wanted to help Brendan, but they were too scared to. Dawn cupped her hands together and started praying.

"You done, kid?" asked Lee boringly. Brendan tried to get up, but he was pushed back to the ground. Lee sighed again and then extended his nails.

"I guess you are," said Lee. "It was nice knowing you though." Dawn looked back at Brendan with wide eyes. May wasn't worried at all. She just looked impatient. Lee was about to attack Brendan, but then he stopped when a rock was thrown at his head. He turned to Dawn, who had thrown it.

"Why won't you listen?" asked Brendan.

"Now, now, don't ruin her fun," said Lee. "If she wants in, then let her."

"Don't touch her!" yelled Brendan as he tried to get up, but he was kicked back behind Dawn. Lee walked towards Dawn, who took steps back to Brendan. She got down on her knees and hugged Brendan.

"I won't let them hurt you," said Dawn. "I promise."

"Aw," said Lee. "How cute." He was about to charge towards the kids, but then something crashed down in front of Brendan and Dawn. Lee and Riku were confused, but then their eyes widened. May smiled. Brendan looked up to see who it was, and he saw Sir Aaron in front of him, but then his vision was fixed, and it was Ash instead.

"Turns out you were right," said Lnoki, who was next to him. Ash moved his arms and looked at Lee and Riku angrily.

"Ass kicking time," he said.

"Finally you got your ass over here!" yelled May.

"Shut up!"
