Hey guys, thanks for the comments on the last chapter. I'm so happy that this story is very prosperous and before the chapter begins I just want to say this now because I don't think I said it before, but there will be a sequel! I've given it some thought and decided why stop here? Of course it will be about Simba's daughter Kiara and Kovu's romance but at the same time, we'll see the romance of our main protagonists and how they develop as parents, but I'll talk more of this at another time and if any of you guys have ideas or thoughts on how the sequel should be or what you want to happen, feel free to comment or PM me and let me know, I welcome all suggestions as long as they're appropriate. By the way, this chapter may be short, just forewarning you. And now let's continue!

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN THE LION KING

Chapter 14 – "Remember Who You are"

As the moon shined above, two lions cuddled together slept soundly in a secluded area, the perfect spot for romance and relaxation. Simba smiled in his sleep as he dreamt of his lovely girlfriend and how happy he was. Anaya snuggled closer against him and everything was perfect. Above them in the trees, someone was watching them. The figure leapt from branch to branch until he was in the tree hovering over their resting forms. Rafiki smiled at the happiness between the two of them. He knew that one day they would find each other again and fall in love. He was glad that Simba was able to win her love but the next challenge would be convincing him to return to his homeland, but as always, this was nothing that Rafiki couldn't handle.

He started to make some noise in the trees and began to hum a little song at the same time.

"Asante sana, squash banana! Wewe nugu, mimi hapanna!" Rafiki mumbled with a silly grin. Simba heard the mumbling and opened his eyes and looked up to see something or better yet someone moving in the trees. Simba rolled his eyes and then looked down at Anaya to see her still asleep. How could she sleep through this noise? He licked his lips and realized they were pretty dry and decided to get some water to quench his thirst. Simba carefully got up and moved away from Anaya and towards the pond across from them. He hopped onto the log and then bent his neck down to taste the refreshing cool water and reveled at how it flowed down his parched throat. Simba drank some more to fill up his belly when suddenly a pebble was thrown into the pond making him pull away and then that accursed mumbling happened again.

"Asante sana, squash banana! Weww nugu, mimi hapanna!" Simba groaned and scowled at the monkey who sang this.

"C'mon, will you cut it out?" he asked with annoyance and then began to walk away.

"Can't cut it out, it'll grow right back!" Rafiki answered with a laugh. Simba wasn't amused. In fact, he was more annoyed by the baboon's mere presence.

"Creepy little monkey" Simba mumbled as Rafiki followed, which started to irritate him further.

"Would you stop following me? Arrgh, who are you?" Simba growled a bit. Rafiki giggled.

"The question is: Who…..are you?" he asked. Simba was ready to reply but judging by what had occurred between him and Nala and Anaya earlier, he wasn't so sure. He sighed.

"I thought I knew….now I'm not so sure." He said almost quietly. Rafiki smiled.

"Well I know who you are!" he said which surprised the Prince.

Rafiki grabbed Simba's ear, pulling his head close to him. "Shh! Come here, it's a secret" he said. Simba waited patiently for him to tell him.

"Asante sana, squash banana! Weww nugu-" Simba glared and pulled away from Rafiki giggling manner.

"Arrgh! Enough already! What does that mean anyway?" Simba asked irritated.

"It means that you're a baboon…..and I'm not" Rafiki said and then laughed at his own joke. Simba turned away from him.

"I think you're a little confused"

"Wrong! I'm not de one who's confused! You don't even know who you are!" Rafiki challenged with a smile.

"Oh and I suppose you know?" Simba argued and began to walk away from this nonsense.

"Sure do. You're Mufasa's boy" he revealed which stopped the Prince in his place. How had he known that?! Simba turned around to look at him and saw Rafiki grinning.

"Bye!" he said and then ran off.

"Hey! Wait!" Simba yelled after and then followed him across the river. Simba panted as he spotted Rafiki resting on a rock, meditating peacefully. He stood beside the baboon.

"You knew my father?" he asked

"Correction: I know your father" Rafiki said still meditating. Simba finally caught his breath and looked down at the ground and sighed sadly.

"I hate to tell you this, but he…died…..along time ago." He said sadly, reminiscing about the past that he buried deep down in his heart.

"Nope! Wrong again!" Rafiki said laughing and moved towards the entrance of the deep forest.

"He's alive! And I'll show him to you! You follow old Rafiki, he knows the way!" he said and then disappeared inside. Simba moved towards the entrance and then thought about Anaya and how she may wake up soon, but the overwhelming need to see what Rafiki was saying was true made him push on inside.

Simba climbed over so many vines, overgrowing plant life and other particles around him until he finally saw Rafiki above him.

"Don't dawdle. Hurry up!" Rafiki said with an excited smile. What was he so excited about?

"Hey, woah wait!" Simba called to him as he tried to catch up.

"Come on. Come on!" Rafiki yelled and then began humming that same tune from before. Simba ran through the forest, trying to detect where he went. He was beginning to feel lost inside here but his need to see his father kept him on forward.

"Would you slow down?!" Simba yelled and then tripped over a tree root. He pulled through the connected vines and broke through so many bushes and tussles as he trudged ahead.

"STOP!" Rafiki said halting the Prince and then hushed him from talking. He went towards the tall grass and pointed his stick down it.

"Look dat way" he whispered softly. Simba gulped a little, unsure if he was ready to face his father, dead or alive, but he bravely walked towards Rafiki and looked at him uneasily. Rafiki assured him with a friendly smile and motioned for the Prince to go and Simba went down to the ravine were he carefully peered slowly at the water only to be met with his reflection. He blew out a breath and looked away.

"That's not my father. It's just my reflection." He said flatly and Rafiki came up behind him.

"No….look harder" Rafiki said pointing to the water again but this time, it was forming something. Simba looked harder at his reflection which had now transformed into his father's face.

"You see….he lives in you" Rafiki said slowly and then pulled away from the prince as the clouds formed together. Simba couldn't believe his eyes at his father's face but then things got even more weirder when he heard a deep baritone voice call his name.

"Simba" someone said and he automatically recognized the voice.

"Father?" he asked looking up at the sky and was extremely surprised to see his father, formed of clouds, walking towards him slowly. His face merged into the face of his father and Mufasa looked down at him with a sad and disappointed expression.

"Simba….you have forgotten me." Mufasa said

"No….how could I?" he replied

"You have forgotten who you are and so forgotten me. Look inside yourself, Simba. You are more than what you have become. You must take your place in the Circle of Life." Mufasa said firmly. Simba was taken aback at the mention of the Circle of Life. He had not heard that since he was a young cub.

"How can I go back?!...I'm not who I used to be." He said with sadness. The clouds formed around Mufasa's face making him look more majestic than he already did.

"Remember who you are. You are my son….and the one true king." He said. Simba was moved and in awe at his father before him. And then all his memories, Nala and him, bumping into Anaya, singing with her, the Elephant Graveyard, running across the Pridelands with Mufasa and Anaya, being king. All of it made him realize that he had been selfish all this time. He had only been thinking about his own need of not wanting to face the past while his homeland was probably what Anaya had said earlier; dying of starvation while he was living the luxurious and carefree life of Hakuna Matata.

"Remember who you are" his father said faintly as he began to disappear into the night.

"No! Please! Don't leave me!" he begged as he ran after Mufasa'a fading form.

"Remember" he said again

"FATHER!" Simba yelled

"Remember"

"Don't leave me" Simba said softly

"Remember" his afther said again before Simba could no longer hear him. The winds suddenly changed around the fields and Simba felt it but was now more focused on what his father, Anaya and Nala had sad to him all along. Rafiki smiled and came up behind him.

"What was dat?!" he asked loudly.

"De weather….very peculiar, don't you tink?" he asked the Prince.

"Yea…..looks like the winds are changing" he agreed

"Ahh…change is good" Rafiki inquired

Simba chuckled a bit. "Yea, but it's not easy."

"I know what I have to do, but….going back means that I'd have to face my past. I've been running from it for so long" he said and then was whacked on the head by Rafiki's stick.

"OW! Geez, what was that for?!" Simba asked in irritation and in pain.

"It doesn't matter! It's in de past!" Rafiki said

"Yea, but it still hurts."

"Oh yes, de past can hurt. But de way I see it, you can either run from it! Or…learn from it" he said and then swung his stick again but this time Simba ducked.

"Ahh! See?! So what're you going to do?" Rafiki asked. Simba smirked

"First, I'm going to take your stick." He said and then grabbed the stick with his teeth and threw it to the side.

"No, no, no! Not the stck!" Rafiki said and went for it, but then he saw Simba already darting away.

"Hey! Where are you going?!" Rafiki called to him.

"I'M GOING BACK!" Simba called

BUSA LE LIZWE BO!

(Rule this land!)

BUSA LE LIZWE BO!

(Rule this land!)

"Good! Go on! Get out of here!" Rafiki shouted with an ecstatic smile and laughed wholeheartedly.

BUSA LE LIZWE BO!

(Rule this land!)

BUSA LOMHLABA!

(Rule this land of ours!)

"WHOO!" Rafiki called as the true lion king vanished towards his home: Pride Rock.

"WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

VUSA AMAKHOSI!

(Wake the ancestors!)

VUSA AMAKHOSI!

(Wake the ancestors!)

VUSA AMAKHOSI!

(Wake the ancestors!)

BUSA LOMHLABA!

(Rule this land of ours!)

After sleeping for so long, Anaya's eyes fluttered open and didn't feel Simba's presence anymore. She stood up and looked around for him but he was nowhere in sight.

"Simba?" she called for him. 'Maybe he went somewhere?' she thought and hurried off to find her sister or his friends to ask if they had seen him, but then a voice stopped her.

"He is not here, little one!" Rafiki called to her. She stopped and looked up at him as he descended the tree branch he sat on down to the ground. Rafiki opened his arms up and enveloped the young lioness in a hug.

"Oh….Anaya has blossomed into beautiful lion." Rafiki commented to which she blushed at.

"Thank you, Rafiki. Do you know where Simba went?" she asked. Rafiki smiled and stroked that spot behind her ear that always made her purr.

"He has left…..to take back the throne." He revealed. Anaya's eyes widened.

"He's….he's going back?" she asked with shock. Rafiki nodded. Anaya was overjoyd with happiness at knowing that Simba was going to regain his throne.

"But how?! How did-"

"Sometimes,…..the voice of a lost one, can change your thoughts about everything." Rafiki said with a silly grin and laughed with Anaya.

"Well thank you so much, Rafiki." She said, embracing him once again.

"Does Nala know?" she asked.

"I will tell them all, but Anaya must go. Prince Simba cannot do dis alone" he advised and Anaya knew he was right. After all these years, it would be difficult getting his title back especially since Scar had the hyenas swarming over every part of the Pridelands, including Pride Rock. He looked once more at Rafiki before taking off into the night, hoping to catch up to Simba and take back what was rightfully theirs…..
