Chapter 15 – "The Fight for Pride Rock"
Nala was walking around all of the plains for most of the night and searched for her sister and Simba to be somewhere together but she still couldn't find them. She finally came across Timon and Pumbaa who were sleeping, rather noisily, in an old tree trunk and rolled her eyes at them.
"Hey. Hey, wake up" she said poking Timon. Timon opened his eyes to see Nala's huge ones staring at him.
"AHHHHH! AHHHHHH! AHHHHH!" Timon and Pumbaa screamed in fright.
"It's okay! Woah, woah! It's okay! It's me!" Nala said and then Timon walked up to her.
"Don't ever do that again! Carnivores, ugh" Timon grumbled. Nala shook her head.
"Have you guys seen Simba and my sister?" she asked
"I thought they were with you." Timon said.
"They were, but now I can find them. Where are they?" she said and then the three of them heard a giggling voice from above them.
"You won't find them here!" Rafiki said with a laugh. "The king has returned."
This surprised Nnala so much. Simba had actually gone back? And that means Anaya must have followed him.
"I can't believe it…he's gone back!" she said with excitement.
"Gone back? What do you mean-" Timon started and looked at the trees but Rafiki was no longer there.
"Hey! What's going on here? Who's the monkey?" Timon asked.
"Simba's gone back to challenge Scar" she said
"Who?"
"Scar"
"Who's got a scar?"
"No, no, no, it's his uncle"
"The monkey's his uncle?"
"NO! Simba's gone back to challenge his uncle to take his place as King. And Anaya left to go help him which is exactly what I'm going to do too" Nala said.
"Well don't count us out, sister! We're in too!" Timon said and then hopped onto Pumbaa as they ran out of the forest and off in the direction that Simba and Anaya had taken off in.
The sun was high in the sky, shining over everything alive or deceased. It burned the hot sand dunes and wilted the flowers and other life that bloomed. However, someone was running at a fast pace through the sand dunes, not even caring if the sand burnt his paws or if the sun burned the skin off his back. Prince Simba ran at full speed towards his destination that was only a mile away now and from where he was, he could see that it wasn't a pretty sight whatsoever.
Upon entering the Pridelands, Simba was in complete shock at how the once green and healthy field were now desolate and dead. The beautiful blue skies were now a sad, dingy gray and green and the animals that roamed freely were all but mere bones lying around. Simba gaped at everything. In that amount of time that he had been gone, the Pridelands had turned into a wasteland, full of death and despair.
Simba carefully walked through all the piles of bones and the barren land that had once been his home. He climbed on top of a rock jutting out towards Pride Rock and was in even more shock at what he now saw. The lands were bare and neither greenery nor any water flowed through here. It was just as Anaya had said. Simba then spotted Pride Rock and glared angrily at it because he knew that behind all this was the one lion who had always wanted to be king and who had ruined the entire kingdom.
"Simba! Wait up!" a feminine voice called and he turned to see Anaya coming up but then her ears flattened against her head as she looked at the home that was no longer theirs.
"It's awful, isn't it?" she murmured and walked up beside him.
"I didn't want to believe you" Simba replied lowly. Anaya nodded and looked out towards Pride Rock and it's grieve-stricken state.
"What made you come back?" she asked
"I finally got some sense knocked into me. And I got the bump to prove it." He joked a little but then became serious. "Besides, this is my kingdom. If I don't fight for it, who will?"
Anaya nuzzled her body against his and looked into his eyes.
"I will" she said softly. Simba smiled at his love and nestled his head on top of hers while she nuzzled her face under his chin, deep into his fierce red mane.
"Thank you, Anaya" he whispered and then pulled away smiling.
"I will too." Another feminine voice said and it was Nala's as she walked up to the couple. Anaya and her nuzzled foreheads before Nala stood next to Anaya.
"Thanks, Nala, but remember you two….it's going to be dangerous." He warned the sisters. Nala raised her eyebrows.
"Danger? Ha! I laugh in the face of danger! Ha ha ha!" Nala said, imitating Simba from when they were younger.
"I see nothing funny about this" a male voice said this time.
"Timon…Pumbaa, what you doing here?" Simba asked in astonishment. He'd honestly thought that they'd never give up the carefree life, but they had surprised them all.
"At your service, my liege" Pumbaa said, bowing in respect. Timon rolled his eyes.
"Ugh, we're gonna fight your uncle for this?" Timon said almost disdainfully. Simba chuckled a bit.
"Yes, Timon. This is my home" Simba said.
"Hmm…talk about your fixer-upper" Timon mumbled and then looked straight at his friend. "Well, Simba…if it's important to you, we're with you till the end." Timon said bowing before the Prince. Simba smiled at all of his friends and their confidence and willingness to help fight of Pride Rock. He just hoped that it was enough to win as they all looked out towards the fallen kingdom.
The 5 of them crept slowly towards the outer and entrance part of Pride Rock and grimaced as they saw the thousands of hyenas sleeping, eating and watching everywhere. They hid behind a huge fallen log and looked carefully at their enemies. Timon shuddered.
"Hyeans….I hate hyenas." Timon said with disgust and some fear. "So what's your plan for getting past those guys?" he asked
"Live bait" Simba said. Nala and Anaya had to hold in their giggles because they knew that Timon and Pumbaa were going to be the bait.
"Good idea!" Timon said then realized something. "Hey!"
"C'mon, Timon! You guys have to create a diversion." Simba said
"What do you want me to do? Dress a drag and do the hula?!" he suggested sarcastically and that's exactly what they did.
"LUAU! If you're hungry for a hunk of fat and juicy meat?! Eat my buddy Pumbaa, because he is a treat!"
"Come on down and dine, on this tasty swine! All you have to do is get in line!"
"ARE YA ACHIN'?!"
"Yup, yup, yup!"
"FOR SOME BACON?!"
"Yup, yup, yup!"
"HE'S A BIG PIG!"
"Yup, yup!"
"You can be a big pig too! Oy!"
And then Timon and Pumbaa ran for their lives as the hyenas chased after them hungrily. Simba, Nala and Anaya were able to get by and made it to the ledge that led down to where the other lionesses were and up the ledge was where Simba could sneak in on Scar.
"Nala, Anaya, you guys find mine and your mothers and rally the other lionesses." He ordered. Nnala nodded and already headed down.
"Where are you going?" Anaya asked. Simba looked at the lion responsible for this turmoil across from where they were.
"I'll look for Scar." He said and was ready to leave, but Anaya stopped him.
"Simba" she whispered. He turned around a bit and was surprised as Anaya kissed his cheek.
"Please….be careful. I just got you back….I don't want to lose you now." She said. Simba nodded and gave her a reassuring smile and motioned for her go. Anaya hopped down from the ledge and followed behind Nala as Simba moved in to spy on Scar.
"SARABI!" Scar shouted and Simba gasped as he saw his beloved mother walk through the crowd of towards the top where Scar was. Simba frowned. Sarabi looked much older, malnourished and very unhealthy. How could he have turned his back on her?
"Yes, Scar?" she said
"Where is your hunting party? They're not doing their jobs" Scar demanded.
"Scar, there is no food. The herds have moved on." She said calmly. Scar knew that she was right but his pride was too high to believe anything she said.
"No! You're just not looking hard enough!" He argued. Sarabi sighed.
"It's over. There is nothing left. We have but only one choice: We must leave Pride Rock" she said, hoping he would agree but it was a lost hope.
"We're not going anywhere!" Scar snarled. Sarabi's eyes widened with fury.
"Then you have sentenced us to death!"
"Then so be it!" Scar said cruelly. Sarabi gasped and so did Simba.
"You can't do that!" she stated
"I am the king! I can do whatever I want!" Scar said like a spoiled child. Sarabi glared at him.
"If you were half the king Mufasa was-" she started, defending her dead husband's honor but that only enraged Scar.
"I'M TEN TIMES THE KING MUFASA WAS!" He growled at her and then hit her across the face, knocking her onto the ground. All the lionesses gasped in shock and ready to kill him, no matter the consequences but a loud ferocious roar echoed through the air as lightening cracked in the sky and showed his face. Simba.
"Mufasa?! No! You're dead!" Sscar said with fear in his voice, hoping that it wasn't who he thought. Simba had forgotten that as he matured, his face began to look like his father's a bit, but that wasn't his focus at the moment. He leaped down from the ledge and walked up to Sarabi's side, nudging her softly against the cheek with his nose and then glaring at Scar. Sarabi awoke from her unconscious and dizzy state.
"Mufasa?" she whispered. Simba shook his head.
"No….it's me." He said
"Simba? You're alive" she said with wide eyes and a smile, but then became confused.
"How can that be?" she asked
"It doesn't matter. I'm home" he replied and then nuzzled his mother's cheek, which made them both smile.
"Simba?" Scar said with a gasp. "Simba! Oh ho, I'm a little surprised to see you." He said and then looked up angrily at the hyenas who had lied to him.
"Alive?" he said and then they gulped and scurried away.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't rip you apart?" Simba snarled and stalked towards his uncle. Scar became nervous and walked backwards.
"Oh Simba, you must understand. The pressures of ruling a kingdom-"
"Are no longer yours." Simba interrupted. "Step down, Scar."
Scar chuckled uneasily. "I would. Naturally, I would. However,….there is one little problem. You see them?" Scar said and then pointed up to the thousands of hyenas seated above them on the ledges.
"They think I'm the king" Scar reasoned.
"Well, we don't!" Anaya said as she and Nala walked up with the other lionesses to the platform.
"Simba's the rightful king." She said
Zahra and Sarafina helped Sarabi up and Scar glared at the two runaway lionesses, for they were the ones who found him and helped to bring Simba back. Simb was glad that all his lionesses agreed.
"The choice is yours Scar: either step down or a fight." Simba declared.
"Oh, must it all end in violence?" Scar said. "I'd hate to be responsible for the death of a family member, wouldn't you agree, Simba?" Scar asked, taunting him back to his guilt from all those years ago. Simba remained firm.
"That's not gonna work, Scar. I've put it behind me." Simba said
"And what about your faithful subjects, have they put it behind them?" Scar asked looking directly towards Anaya because he could tell that there was something between them, considering how close they were as children. Anaya was confused.
"Simba, what is he talking about?" she asked. Scar smirked and circled Simba.
"Ah! So you haven't told them your little secret? Well Simba, now's your chance to tell them." Scar said. "Tell them: Wwho is responsible for Mufasa's death?" All eyes were now on the Prince and ashamedly and guilt-ridden, he looked towards them with sad eyes, but looked more at his love/girlfriend.
"I am." He said sadly. Everyone gasped but the one who were more shocked were Nala, Anaya and Sarabi. Sarabi walked towards her son, while Nala looked at the other lionesses with the same stunned expression.
Anaya's eyes were filled with hurt and tears. Simba could hardly look into Sarabi eyes and he didn't dare look at Anaya anymore because he knew he would see that hurt and pain and most likely tears in them, which was something he knew he couldn't take.
"It's not true." Sarabi said. Simba put his head down.
"Tell me it's not true." She begged. Simba met her eyes and sighed.
"It's true." He said with pain.
"You see! He admits it! Murderer!" Scar accused.
"No! It was an accident!' Simba argued.
"If it wasn't for you, Mufasa would still be alive. It's your fault he's dead! Do you deny it?" Scar asked with a narrowed look as he circled his nephew.
"No" Simba said
"Then…you're guilty!" Scar concluded. The hyenas leaped down from the ledges and followed behind Scar as he backed Simba towards the peak of Pride Rock.
"Oh Simba, you're in trouble again. But this time, daddy isn't here to save you." Scar growled. Simba gulped as he backed up some more.
"And now everyone knows why!" Scar snarled. And then Simba's foot slipped on a rock and made him fall back, hanging onto the peak of Pride Rock.
"SIMBA!" Anaya screamed in horror as she watched him flail before Scar. A huge bolt of lightning struck the ground beneath him and sparked the grass on fire, making it even more of a dangerous situation for Simba. The lionesses were blocked off by the hyenas and had no access to reach him, which confined them to watch their Prince struggle for his life.
"Now, this seems familiar. Hmm….where have I seen this before, let me think?" Scar stalled as Simba was scratching to hold on with his claws.
"Oh yes! I remember! This is just the way your father looked before he died" Scar said cruelly. Simba's foot slipped again, making him slide down more. Scar then impaled his razor-sharp claws into Simba's paws as he did with Mufasa, holding him there.
"And here's my little secret." He said and then bent his head next to Simba's ear.
"I killed Mufasa." He revealed and Simba's eyes widened. All those years…..those years of believing that he had murdered his father, the huge amount of guilt he had always lived with….the endless torture of feeling and being told that he was the cause of his father's death finally vanished and was replaced with anger, hatred and rage. His irises turned a dark red and with a loud roar, he pushed himself off the ledge.
"NOOOOOOOOOOO!" He roared and then pinned Scar to the hard ground.
"MURDERER!" He shouted angrily. All the lionesses gasped. Anaya shook a little. She had never seen this rage filled side of Simba before. None of them had.
"No, Simba! Please!" Scar pleaded
"Tell them the truth!" Simba commanded
"Truth?" Scar said with a nervous chuckle. "The truth is in the eye of the-" Scar choked on the last word as Simba pressed his paw hard against his throat, forcing him to speak.
"Alright." Scar gasped. Simba pushed his paw deeper, choking him further.
"Alright!" Scar growled and then glowered at Simba. "I did it."
"So they can hear you." Simba further said. Tension was in the air as the lionesses wanted to hear what Scar had to say and the hyenas were prepared to do what they had to.
"I KILLED MUFASA!" Scar yelled in Simba's face and that was all Anaya needed before she let out a ferocious roar, narrowed her eyes, flattened her ears and darted towards the two male lions. The hyenas bared their teeth and all pounced on Simba, knocking him to the ground, making him roar in pain as they bit and scratched him. Nala and their parents flew in and bared their teeth right after Anaya had and collided with the hyenas to save Simba. Anaya slashed many across their faces until she finally got to Simba and helped him up.
"EEEE YAAAAAAAAAA!" a shrill cry echoed as Timon and Pumbaa arrived, ready for battle. Simba took off and threw the hyenas chasing him everywhere, swiping his claws at them until one hyena jumped onto his back and bit his neck until Rafiki whacked him on the head. He gave a battle cry as well and beat up a lot of hyenas around him with some kung fu style of fighting.
It was an all-out war and everyone was fighting for their lives and for Pride Rock. Anaya and Zahra were back to back against each other as they bit, clawed and pounced on one hyena to the next, however, tow specific hyenas caught Anaya's eyes. One had a scar above its eyebrow and the other had one on its neck in the shape of a lightning bolt. Her vision became red. Those were the same hyenas that had murdered her mother all those years ago. She roared menacingly and pounced onto them ripping and clawing their skin out. She was so full of rage of what they had done to her that she wanted to kill them. Anaya was never one for revenge, but they had taken her mother away from her and now they were going to die like she had, except Anaya wasn't going to devour them. That would mean stooping down to their level and she wanted no part of them inside her instead she fought with them all the way towards the edge of Pride Rock's peak and shoved them off into the huge fire. She glared down as their bodies burned and then turned away from them. Zahra was shocked beyond belief but didn't chastise or scold her of what she had done because she knew that if that was her children those hyenas killed, she would've done the same.
On the other hand, Timon was being chased by Banzai and Shenzi into the cave where Zazu resided in.
"Let me out! Let me out!" Zazu shouted
"Let me in! Let me in!" Timon shouted and then hugged Zazu for dear life. Shenzi and Banzai giggled evilly.
"Please, don't eat me" Ttimon begged
"Drop em!" Pumbaa ordered.
"Ey! Who's the pig?" Banzai asked but that was a bad idea.
"Are you talking to me?"
"Uh oh, you called him a pig"
"Are you talking to me?!"
"Shouldn't have done that"
"ARE YOU TALKING TO ME?!"
"Now they're in for it"
"They call me: Mister PIG! AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" Pumbaa yelled as he charged for them and collided hard, beating them both up and making them run away in fear.
"Whoooo hooo! You, yellow-bellied! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo!" they chanted together. Simba ran up the ledge and scanned the area for the one lion he was looking for and this time it wasn't Anaya.
Scar was quietly walking away from the battle but the lightning showed Simba where he was and with a loud ferocious roar, Simba chased after him, wanting to end this right here….right now…
Another chapter completed and next is the big fight scene! I'm rooting for #TeamSimba! Anyways, I may update later but who knows?
