Chapter 4

I turned my head. There in front of me was a teenage boy, maybe 17. He was dressed in dark purple, grey and black, which would have been ridiculous on any other person but he somehow pulled it off. He had pale skin and black hair, but what was most astonishing were his eyes. They were so light blue that they looked almost white, with the darkest of pupils. He raised an eyebrow at me, and I realized I was staring. I hung my head, but, ignoring Percy and Grover who had run over to help me, the boy tipped my chin up. "Katastrophe, you have nothing to be ashamed of." He said softly. I flinched at the use of my full name. "Kat, are you alright?" Percy asked. I nodded. "C'mon lets get you across the border so you'll be safe." Grover said as he helped me up "I'll come with you," Mr Mystery stated. "I need to explain to Chiron who she is." Grover helped me across the few feet to the pine tree as Percy exclaimed "You know who her father is? Then tell us now! And who are you anyway? The Boy replied simply "I am Jay. " and turned and walked towards the pine tree. Grover slowed down so that Percy and Jay could catch up, Percy still pestering Jay about who my father was. Me? I didn't care who my father was. He had left me and my mother when I was conceived. My mother was killed when I was 8 by a rather powerful lightning strike, and I had gone from orphanage to group home as strange things happened to me until I ran away to live on the streets at 12. I was interrupted from reminiscing over those years by Grover as he pointed towards the first house. "That's the Big House where Chiron will be." Jay pushed past Percy as an old man with a horse's body come out of the house. Chiron, if that's who it was, Turned toward us, smiled and raised a hand in greeting. A hand that was lowered ever so slightly when his gaze moved over Jay. "Welcome!" He called showing none of his misgivings and trotted over. I was about to faint in shock when Jay reached back and caught my shoulders. "Just breathe Kat. Just breathe." He said soothingly. Immediately I let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding as Chiron arrived. "Well well, looks like another rescue mission gone well.' He said looking me over. "Good job, Grover. Percy, I believe Annabeth is waiting for you at the canoe lake. Percy's face brightened, then darkened as he asked "Who are you that you know so much, Jay?" Jay replied with a small grin. "None of your business Perseus Jackson." Percy flinched then brought out the ballpoint pen he had been holding earlier, and uncapped it. I gasped. A glowing bronze sword had appeared. "No one calls me that unless they are monsters or are looking for a fight!" Percy snarled angrily. Jay grinned wider and pulled a sword out of the air and said "You don't want to fight me son of Poseidon. I am more powerful than even your precious gods. I won't kill you because of your destiny. But that won't save you from being humiliated will it?" He raised his sword. The sword was the same colors that Jay was wearing, except the colors were swirling around chaotically. "This blade is made from the main three enchanted metals: celestial bronze, Stygian iron and enchanted gold melted together, with a blessing from the universe bestowed upon it." Percy looked shocked, than became angrier as he realized he was being patronized. I clenched my teeth nervously. It looked like Percy was getting ready to charge. I turned to Chiron. "Can't you do something?" Jay is just trying to fight Percy!. One of them might get hurt!" Chiron smiled sadly. " The only thing that will be hurt is Percy's pride, and that might do him some good. He thinks he is the most powerful half-blood out there. He needs to learn that he can be beaten." He broke off as Percy charged. Jay raised his sword and the two blades met with a crash. It looked like Percy was giving his all but he could not even touch Jay. Their blades were moving so fast that I couldn't even see them. Then Jay laughed and Percy's sword flew through the air and embedded itself in the ground fifteen feet from him. Percy fell to the ground as Jay's sword pointed at his throat. "Percy!" I looked around. There at the corner of the Big house, was a blonde girl with a bronze knife unsheathed. Percy saw her too. "Annabeth!" he called. Jay shook his head and his sword disappeared.

He turned and walked towards Annabeth. "I'm so glad you are here Annabeth Chase. Why don't you and Kat over there get acquainted while you show her around Camp Half-Blood and explain who we are. OK?" She looked surprised, and looked to Chiron. He nodded, so she came over. And took my hand. "Hi" She said "Hello" I returned the greeting. She led me away from the boys and started my tour.

Jay

As soon as Annabeth led Kat away I turned my attention back to Percy. "Get up." I said sternly. He got up rather quickly and stared at me without speaking. I could sense he was afraid of me. Snickering inwardly at that, I walked closer and spoke so that only he could hear me. "I know your entire history, kid. I also know your entire future up to that Great Prophecy the gods like throwing around." He looked shocked and he opened his mouth to ask something, then closed it. I picked him up by his collar and pressed on. "I also know that you have the potential to hurt Kat in the very near future. And I'm telling you this: If you drive her away by being a close-minded fool, I will break the prophecy and unleash torment worse than the Fields of punishment onto you. Do you hear me?" He nodded fearfully. I narrowed my eyes and dropped him. He quickly stood up and ran off towards the canoe lake. Chiron had stayed a respectful distance away, knowing that whatever I had to say was for Percy alone. "So then, friend." I said, walking over to Chiron. "How are you my horse-man" He nodded respectfully. "Lord Jay." I frowned. He saw my expression and laughed. "Come on in Jay. What news do you bring?" I walked into the Big House with him chuckling. As we sat down I started to get serious again. I shut the door from the couch and put some of my energy there and the windows to make sure that no one could listen. Turning back to the centaur I spoke to him quickly,"Swear on the Eternal Father Chaos that no word of this conversation leaves this room, not even to the gods or any other immortal being, until I give permission." Swearing on Chaos went one step further than an oath on the Styx - once made it was impossible to break. Chiron looked at me strangely. "What message requires so much secrecy?" "if you wish to hear these tidings that affect the very foundations of Olympus, you will swear to my terms before i say one word." I retorted. He pursed his lips before sighing. "I swear on the Eternal Father Chaos to abide by your terms." Satisfied, I took a deep breath. "Kat is Kronos' half-blood daughter." Chiron's eyes widened and he inhaled sharply. "How is this possible?" I shook my head slightly. " As near as I can figure out someone or something about 14 years ago went to the edge of the abyss and took some of the Lord of Time's aura out of one of the pieces of him. Then he somehow put it into Kat's mother, no doubt through some dark ritual, and she conceived. It's not so different from how Athena births her kids after all." Chiron nodded absently, all the while wildly thinking about the ramifications of this new development. Suddenly he spoke again realizing something. "Your Sight is clouded?" he asked increduously. I scowled. "It would seem that when three or more Titans and/or other higher powers than the gods combine forces to block the sight of everyone other than themselves it clouds my Sight as well. It just so happens dearest Gaea is awake enough to help out her dearest sons making 5 forces altogether." I sighed. "Nevertheless when I can focus all my attention on the blockage I will break through." He nodded and I stood up "One last thing, Chiron," He looked at me apprehensively "As diced up as he is Kronos will probably claim her tonight or tomorrow morning at breakfast - he doesn't want her making friends here for obvious reasons. There's only one piece of him left in Tartarus and he wants his daughter to seal the deal." on that happy note I steped forward into my home dimension, Chaos, leaving behind an awestruck trainer of heroes.
