Dinner looked like heaven to me. BBQ braskets with fries with never ending soda goblets. I mean, coming off the streets, this was like a feast f
or kings. First, though before eating we all stood up to sacrifice part of our meal to the gods. When it was my turn, I hesitated, like some thing
was telling me not to. Then I decided. "To my father, whoever he is, so that he will claim me soon." I dumped part of my brasket into the fire. I
went to sit down feeling somehow energized. It was like an espresso drink I decided as I sat next to the Stoll brothers. I started eating and it
was like heaven in my mouth. I looked up and almost the entire Hermes cabin was looking at me. "What?" I asked with my mouth partially full.
One of the Stoll brothers, Travis I think it was, asked me, "What color are your eyes?" I scrunched my eyebrows. "Brown, why?" "Since you
came back from the brazier, they have been glowing gold." He said a little fearfully. I looked down and cleared a space on my shiny reflective
plate and gasped. They were indeed glowing gold. 'It's part of your inheiritance' A raspy voice said in my mind. I slowly got up from the table.
"I'm going to the armoury to get ready for Capture the flag" I said to my cabin mates and walked out of the pavilion. I headed up to the
armoury like I had said, but on the way I noticed strange things going on around me. Birds flying in the air slowed down, and the grass
stopped swaying in the wind wherever I walked. I was starting to get seriously freaked out. I got to the armoury shed and started going
through the weapons. None of them seemed to fit me. I was about to despair of finding any weapon that suited me when in front of me
appeared a scythe and a dagger of some sort. The sword was made of 2 metals, what looked like bronze and steel. There was a note attached.
'Katastrophe Armag Eddon
These are your inheritance weapons. Hide the sword until you are claimed by rubbing the flat of the blade. Tell no one. Attach the
Kronian dagger to your belt loop. Tell no one of the name. From Your father.'
I was trembling with excitement by the end of the note Actual
weapons from my father! I rubbed the flat of the scythe and it shrank to a ring with a scythe etched into it. I put it on and attached the
beautifully made Kronian dagger to my hip and walked out of the armoury.
I was greeted by Jasper, who was one of the claimed Hermes kids. "Come on Kat, Capture the flag is about so start." His eyes fell to my
dagger. " Whoa." He exclaimed. "I've never see that in there before. I bet you're gonna get lessons from Annabeth, huh." We started jogging
towards the creek. Jasper kept talking as we went down the hill into the forest. "Annabeth is the best knife and dagger fighter in camp since
like 100 years ago." I nodded absently feeling that same skin crawling feeling as earlier. Not necessarily enemy, nor was it friendly. I shrugged
it off and turned to Jasper. "So you don't mind the golden glowing eyes then?" I asked him. "Oh I think they're awesome" he answered "Great
iintimidation factor" I grinned, thinking about their use in the Capture the flag game. I stopped grinning as we came into view of Annabeth and
the look on her face. "Jasper, Kat you're la-" She broke off with a strange look on her face. I tilted my head. She was staring at my eyes. "My
eyes?" I asked. She nodded. "Oh they started during dinner. I don't know what caused it." I decided to keep the whole inheiritance part to
myself. Annabeth looked like she wanted to say something, but the 5 minute horn rang out, and she ushered us towards the armour. I picked
through the protection but didn't find anything that suited me, so I decided to be a scout without the clanging heavy armour. I joined the
growing huddle by the creek. Annabeth was telling everyone about her plan. She spotted me and brought me over. "Kat is the key element"
she stated I stared at her like whaaaat? "You are without armour so you go to steal the flag. We will spend all of our and their resources on a
frontal attack and our defense. You will sneak around in the trees and snatch the flag and run as fast as you can back across the boundary
creek. Got it?" I nodded. She looked at Percy. "And no golden opportunities, yes?" He sighed. "Yes." The starting horn rang. "Good. Let's start."
I
ran forward with the others at first to disguise the fact that I had no armour, then slipped out the side of the group to weave between trees. I
had been running forward for about five minutes when I stopped for breath. I looked around. The slowing down effect had stopped I noticed
with relief. Another quick check revealed their flag sitting 100 yards away. I smirked. I started stealthily creeping towards the flag. I was
almost there when I spotted their guard up in a tree. He spotted me at the same time. He fired an arrow at me that had a net tied to it. My
eyes widened and suddenly the arrow started moving slower and slower until it almost stopped in midair. The archer, whose name I believed
was Will Solace, saw this and his eyes almost bugged out of his head. I wasted no more time and grabbed the flag. I wondered as I was
speeding towards the creek if he had fallen out of his tree. The gap between me and the creek grew smaller and smaller until I jumped over it
and the deafening cheers of my team rang in my ears. They all crowded around me patting my back and jumping in the air. That is until
someone shouted " She's being claimed." Everyone hushed up at that and stared at a point over my head. I looked too. A 3D holographic
scythe was floating over my head. I moved and it stayed over my head. I spotted Chiron over everyone's head. His eyes were saddened and
his mouth was set in a hard line, like he had expected this to happen. I looked around at everyone. Nobody was smiling anymore. Instead
there were suspicious looks and frowns like I had done something wrong. I felt tears well up in my eyes. Here I was wanting to be claimed
and my father was someone bad. I pushed through the crowd and ran back into the woods, wanting to flee. I heard Annabeth's voice calling
me back, but I paid no attention to it.
